I don't think i'd be standing right beside a Top Fueler at launch. Those engines are known for kicking parts out of them at any time. From startup to shutdown.

The clutches come in in stages. There on timers that control a Hydraulic throw out bearing. They set the fuel and timing to come in down the track as well so they can launch the car without smoking the tires off the hit. The clutch typically goes 1 to 1 about 600 feet out. That's where you see the low et's

is it just me or do the top fuel dragsters have longer wheelbase than usual ? It might just be how the engine sits in the chassis giving the illusion perhaps, I dunno just seems longer than usual.

One would think the cameraman could move or have the speaker on the pole moved so the clock could be easily read.

No. I couldn't move. My ticket was for the seat and I had an obstructed view to the timer but a good elevated view of the start line. I did apply for a press pass but they denied that. Thought I might get one considering the size of my channel and the potential advertising from my work but no. Was an expensive day all in all so won't be going back in the near future. No, these are not RC. The 'long ones' are dragsters and do have a driver but he has a curved roof over his head to protect him in case the car rolls over. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)

It's something you have to do at least once just to experience the noise and smell of these things. You need to look for events that run 'top fuel dragsters'. They can get to over 300mph. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)

Essential RC I can only imagine what it would be like to drive one of those things! I'd probably scream like a baby on a rollercoaster! Haha. I'll definitely stay on the watch for any events like that

Not enough to turn the skies brown like L.A. traffic used to do to that place. Like an industry drag racing has a lot of money circulating in a healthy economic fashion.
