I am a simple man. I see Smolensk, I tunnel. I was once in front of a Midway, GK, Yamato, and 3 Shimas, and the Smolensk was behind them all, and when the enemy saw I wasn't even attacking them, and focusing on the Smolensk, they left me alone. They shared my hatred of Smolensk. 😁
That's actually how I felt playing it. Other players would ignore more inviting targets just to shoot me. Don't know if that's really widespread or just a "must sink the CC" thing, but it certainly was work to play that thing successfully, not just sit back & farm.

My only Tier X ship is the GK, and this is the only reason why I don’t play tier X more often….these bullies are the bane of my German brawler…and given her fire resistance, it’s triple perma-fire city on the GK
HE spammers in general, and carriers in particular, make it a bit challenging. I still enjoy playing GK though, in those kind of battles, it often ends up being a matter of holding back. Smolensk or Worcester in range, hang back, do some ranged artillery work. Pounce when you can - I find most HE spammers tend to forget that it takes time to burn someone down. Even if I die at the 3 minute mark, if I can take one or two with me and inflict 100k, and open up a flank, I still count that as a success. I rarely survive battles in my GK. You know the scene from LOTR, where one orc carries a torch under the walls of Helm's Deep to breach the walls? That's my GK 🤣
This ship is just for me to "have fun on a rainy day" ship. Damn it's still so goddamn overpowered. I once got one shot out of my full health in this thing too. 3 citadels.
Agreed, that ship is a royal PITA and I love taking those bastards out. For sheer pettiness, I've started reporting all Smolensks (and Frieslands) for 'unsportsmanlike play'. I know it doesn't do anything, but it makes me smile every time I do it. 😋
It certainly does. It feels like a challenge, actually, since you really can't poke your nose out, and it really defies my cruiser player instincts of assisting the team 😁
Just go to fight a smolensk in my zao (they appear very often on EU in the last time, almost every T10 match). He popped out behind an island and shot me. 2 fires. I shot back. 3 fires and double citadel. He ran away.

I got the Smol when it first came out. Was your fault Terry...!!! But love it. It isnt as OP as back then...Colombos and others can wreck you instantly!! But its still fun sometimes!! That AP with APCS is a DD murderer when you arent being a pyromaniac... #BuffTheSmolensk
Since I got my very own Hindenburg a couple of weeks ago, I made myself a new hobby of hunting down Smolensks and if there is anything more rewarding and pleasant than burning everything to the ground that would be to sink those mofos :P And if you are wondering, my record so far is 4-0 in favor of Hindi.
Hindi is my weapon of choice for this as well. More flexible than Moskva, and I've also taught a Friesland or two that you don't sit still in smoke when I can see their tracers... German 203mm AP tends not to overpen at 10km...
When I play T10 battles I generally play a Shima, oh boy do I just love spotting a Smolensk for my team to just blast away at. Then it's time for me to sink some ships :D
The hardest Smolensk to kill would be the ones with kuznetsov onboard, and my Smolensk just happened to be like that:)) When it comes to killing Smolensk asap in a bb, I usually won't shoot her at first sight, i would rather wait and catch her off guard(eg. when she's showing broadside to me but is distracted by someone else). The results are pretty amazing:D
The best counters are range-precise CAs, like Hindi or Moskva. Same with things like Friesland, just follow the tracers back and blow them out of their smoke. Hindi has an AP alpha of 12k, so she can make very short work of her
As a dd main(ly), i treat Smolensk’s as a part of my dd duty, as if it was a destroyer herself, and especially if I’m in Z52 😎 As we could see here what she can do to bbs 😫😆 For dds, they can be deadly at mid/close range, but if one is playing her in your privileged Terry style👌😁 we are safe 😅
It's an interesting question, actually. Smolensk can be quite deadly to destroyers, but are you actually doing your team more favours by playing support cruiser, or pure HE spammer? Personally, as a cruiser main, I'm always going after destroyers as part of my screening duty, so it's sort of built-in. But I was thinking about it, while the commentary was somewhat tongue-in-cheek, is racking up the damage on BBs maybe equally valuable...
@FunandgameswithTerry it's honestly my favorite ship for hunting them is the Des Moines, you just charge them down, they hit the smoke screen, and I hit radar and rapid reload, it goes down fast

Terry I'm going to call you out on this one! Letting a Daring go about its business without getting rid of it !? You clearly don't understand the reason for the smolensk! Yes it sets fires but it is deadly for dds to attack a smolensk with its hydro and quick guns !
Trust me, it was against all instincts to let that one get away... But honestly, most Smolensks I see in the wild are parked at max range, farming BBs. I of course wholeheartedly agree that Darings need to be taken out with extreme prejudice 🤣

Naja, ich bin mal gespannt. Ich möchte dir übrigens auch mal die Attilio Regolo ans Herz legen. Hab sie vor kurzen frei gespielt und endlich ausgebaut. Ich nutze sie, als StealthDD und muss mich nicht vor Begegnungen mit GunBoatDD fürchten, macht schon Riesenspaß. Vor allem mit dem schnellen Torpedo Reload. Durchschnittlich bin ich zwar erst beim Schaden von 50.000 pro Runde aber das wird mit dem vollen Ausbau und etwas Übung deutlich nach oben gehen. Beste Runde lag bei 150.000 gefühlt schaffe ich im Schnitt momentan 70.000 pro Runde. Ich wünsche dir einen guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr und hoffe weiterhin immer wieder neue informative und toll aufgebaute Videos von dir zu sehen. Liebe Grüße
Play as a dd hunter/ escort this is the real role of babayaga smolensk and the way I play her ... take down enemy dds or other ships I start the burn ... she's hated cause mostly people use her in what u define a selfish play style.. OP ? Yes in good hands she is..
With AP loaded, she's pretty dangerous against DDs. I would personally play like that as well, but you don't see too many, usually it's damage farming style. That's what I was trying to point out, somewhat tongue-in-cheek 😜

A reminder and the pure sarkasm in it fits very good. it's clearly a ship you buy for egoistical gameplay. Sadly it still works too often. I guess we will see it in a bundle after new year again, like last year and then there will be a lot more of them around, even they cost like 100 bucks. 🤣🤣 But I have a different question. Would you say the incomparable is now one of the few really op ships as well? I mean I checked the stats compared to shikishima and the incomparable can't do much more dmg than this guy and I think the shikishima is NOT op.
Don't worry, I'm getting to everything eventually 🤣 I've still got a long list of notes. I was actually curious if it worked. I've played maybe 5 battles, and I'd say I've been focused heavily in at least 3 of them. I've been blind-deleted in smoke by I think a Missouri, and it's generally taken some work to survive long enough to do significant damage. That doesn't mean Smolensk isn't OP, but it's one of those ships that you need to let play - it's easy to focus her down, even a CV can do it without too much trouble. Can't say if it's a CC thing, but I'd say about half my games were decent. Personally, I'd probably rather play e.g. Worcester, or something that lets me take an aggressive play
One of my greatest joys is when I citadel a Smolensk with my Shikishima. It's something like 10,100 dmg per citadel hit 😂. It's not rare to get a double citadel hit either.
I'm pretty sure it was around £250. I got it through the gambling wheel thing. I only started because some i*iot youtuber said it was only around £50 to guarantee getting it, but once I started spending I was like might as well
One of the only existing 2 ships in the game that is excellent at punishing people who bought their ineptitude straight into tier X. 👍😁 I have 2835.7k xp accumulated on her. 😂

I say this all the time. The Smolensk is the peak of cruiser gameplay. If you want the best cruiser to ever exist in this game, Smolensk is here. Anyone on NA knows how much I abuse OP ships and Smolensk is one I use. I can drop 100k damage in Smolensk with guns alone. However I also own the other two cancerous ships at tier 8 and 9. I own a DZP and Friesland 😂
That's where I'm actually seeing Smolensk gameplay somewhat hard - at least when I was testing, I was constantly focused. That said, if you know how to light cruiser, it's a very dangerous weapon indeed. Even without fires, the sheer amount of dakka adds up. I don't have Friesland or Smolensk on my personal, but I do own a Groningen, which feels less dirty, since she doesn't have any smokes.
I want to get this ship so bad but at the same time I hate fighting this ship the best counter for this ship is heavy cruiser's I managed to sink one with my Hindenburg and Z52 (YES a gunboat killed a Smolensk) German AP can easily shred Smolensk armor
Jokes aside, I find it actually not easy to play. It might have been a CC thing, but most games I've played, as soon as I got spotted, I would have two or three players focusing on me. I think a lot of people have realised that Smolensk is dangerous when left alone.
I am also guilty of having such instincts. The moment I spot one I am pinging and shifting fire. Ofcourse I have also been duly rewarded for my diligence and gotten a fair number of citadel crisis medals.
