Come along as I take some fresh blooms from my garden and see what they’ll produce when pressed between sketchbook pages for a few days. The results totally surprised me, and reminded me how rewarding it can be to just let go and see what happens. Bonus: You get to see what sorts of things I have growing in my garden!

This came out differently than I expected but the journal is soft looking . Love the stamped accents. Very pretty 😍

Thank you, Suzy! Yes, I really didn't know what we'd end up with, but the soft-looking papers are sweet in their way. I'm eager to try another batch using some of the tips folks are sharing here!

Oh Anne! You sounded so disappointed when you first turned the pages after your project set a few days. I was in awe! Each turn of the page had me oooing and awwwing. Hearing you describing each plant and your garden was fascinating. I felt like I was touring your yard with you. The pages are beautiful. Sure, many needed to dry more and rolling off the limp plants must have been a bit of a challenge but Anne.. The results are beautiful. I am definitely going to try this. Your current technique would work well for me and my apartment living. I will keep you updated. Nothing much is blooming yet but it will be soon. Many thanks my friend. Your garden notebook is adorable. ❤❤❤

Thanks, my friend - it was a fun experiment and I liked the reminder that things don't always turn out like I think they might....but I still learn every time! I actually ended up really appreciating the soft, gentle colors...and folks are giving me so many good tips for next time!

I liked and subscribed less than 10 seconds into this video. You have the most soothing, warm, comforting, nostalgically familiar voice ever. I feel like I'm listening to a narrator from an old sleepytime kids show. I'm not even going to finish the video right now. I'm gonna wait until later so i can fall asleep to this 💕

When you are using. Onion skins. Avocado skins etc. Add a touch of baking soda at the end. It will really brighten up your colour. , it really does make a difference in colour. Thanks for sharing

The coral bells and Japanese maple were my favourites! Thanks for experimenting!

Thank you, Heather - those were my favorites as well. But as they dried more and I ironed them, I developed a fondness for each one in its own way! Thanks for watching!

Thank you so much! Some of the pages do have that very faint watercolor vibe - I'm enjoying them. Thank you for watching!

If you wait until the papers are completely dry, it is much easier to remove the florals. I got a surprise when dyeing paper with light pink hardy hibiscus blooms, a gorgeous golden yellow color instead of the pink I expected! I have a lot of fun experimenting. I love love love the little journal you made from these pages 💜

Wow, what a gift from your hibiscus! I’ll definitely try more this season - and yes, drying longer would have helped, but I really needed to get the video done! Hahahaha! Thank you so much for watching!

Well you have some nice colorations there, & your cover is marvelous. I would suggest letting them fully dry with the petals on. Wouldn't that make lovely faux handmade paper with a layer of white napkin on top? I did do some flower pounding on muslin back in my quilting days. That was fun to watch, & nature crafts is always wonderful. Have a great day.

Thanks for the encouragement, Sonja, I really appreciate it! I've ended up using quite a few of these pages in different projects over recent days, and they really do make nice backgrounds. I'm going to continue to experiment. Thanks so much for watching!

lovely spring flowers! TFS. About 3 years ago I tried some eco dying/eco printing using begonias. About the same time I developed a nasty case of hives (4 solid days of misery). My mind equates the two events so I will not be attempting again (or maybe wearing gloves). For eco printing I set coffee dyed papers in the sun with the plants on top. I got some good results. For eco dying I pretty much pressed the wet flowers/leaves under a book. I don't remember much color transfer, but got some lovely dried flowers--which I wouldn't use for fear of hives again. It should be a sunny day so perhaps more eco printing in my immediate future.

Thank you, Marcil! So glad you watched - and yes, avoid hives! Take care!

Actually sage is part of the mint family. Which is where it gets that square stem from. ❤ The first few backgrounds have a lot of potential for the “grunge” look. Nice work!

I think they are all beautiful. Once they dried, it may not have the colors you expected they made a nice gentle background. Maybe try alum next time.

Hi Ann! I have tried the techniques of RU-vidr "emsplace". Look up her YT video called "Eco Steaming Flowers with Household Iron Demonstration with Flower and Leaves". It gives instant results, so I have found the best mordant to use is alum water. But I've done blends with tea and coffee waters with alum in them. Vinegar water. Rust water is good, too. What's nice with this method is you can add more flowers if need to for blank spots and press again until you get the results you want. Anyway, give it a try. I used parchment paper when I first tried this out, but did get Teflon sheets eventually to use. But the parchment paper worked fine. Anyway, have fun if you try this. God bless! Sue 😊 ♥
