This video will show you how to remove and replace the Hustler Super Z Caster Spindle Bearings when they are rusted in place. This pretty much will be the same for all Zero Turn mowers with few exceptions.
Caster Spindle Bearings: SA205-16, KH205-16, RA100RRB, AEL205-100, SXV-1, Insert Ball Bearings

I just bought a new Bobcat zero turn. I was bummed to discover they used bushings in the caster spindles.

Yeah, thats a lot of extra fuel expense over the life of that mower. Good luck with it. Thanks for watching.

Max you came close to meeting the description of a hammer mechanic ("dont get ruff with it, get a bigger hammer"), but that caster spindle does spin smoothly. Please be advise, easy spin in a caster spindle is NOT desired. During acceleration after a turn, a caster will often go into the heebie-jeebies (i.e. oscillation ). To counter this, Hustler's new commercial mowers with tapered roller bearings in the caster spindles, are pre-loaded. Pre-load is maintain by three spring cupped washers. As per the service manual, the top adjustment nut is tighten to 40 ft-lbs, then back off a 1/4 turn. The caster spindle will turn, but requires a very modest force for NO SPIN, hence NO OSCILLATION.

Thanks Gratz. This one has sealed ball bearings as you saw. Preload on these aren't as important. I have made sure as well that all four tires carry the load evenly from side to side. I actually ran it the other day to almost 30 going down a hill with a 20' trailer. A one tire left turn was a bit exciting, but managed and still able to reply. While all this was going on, I was thinking: Damn, wish I had a camera man to catch all of this or a follow drone to see the trailer running over me on the mower. lol My kind of fun anyhow. lol Thanks again kind Sir. Hope you'll subscribe and let me know if there is anything I can make a video on for you. Max

new super z hyperdrive. 22 hours on it over this summer. - just started to notice at anywhere over 3/4 speed the front right wheel will get 'speed wobbles' -- traveling on road/driveway etc. -- Got the flex forks tossed in..- the silver cups spin and sound like sand is inside, when turning the wheel slowly feels like sand is INSIDE more than coming ffrom the silver dust cover cap-- concerned that water and sand has migrated inside and caused damage. -- reason: added 24 pumps of valvoline syn grease to left and 15 to right -- now wheels dont spin freely when jacked up, they come to nice quick stop, feel very smooth. - - between the 2 front wheels and all 3 spindles the mower took an entire new tube of grease just those points and i was out.--- the left blade spindle took ~40 pumps , the center about 30 pumps, the right/ discharge side took or needed NONE.. i expected it to need a bit and put 4 or 5 in then heard 'plop' on the floor.. the discharge right spindle was completely full. -- makes me concerned even though the actual bearings i read are sealed, that entire shaft was seemingly running dry especially on the left side.. those spindles are huge but wtf 40 pumps of grease means it was never greased at all. does anyone know if the factory does the initial greasing , or is the dealer selling the mower expected to do this. - i know there was a delay because he had to put the blades on -- makes me wonder if the factory leaves the final greasing up to the dealer- if so, should i be concerned about left bearing spindle and even center one possibly? -- what possible reason would there be literally 6plus oz of grease difference between a brand new mowers spindles at 22 hours? any other failures i should be loooking for that could have caused those spindles to 'loose'' their grease? - --- from how it went in, i'm nearly 100% that the left spindle was 100% dry, middle had a bit, and right discharge side spindle got filled right up properly since im sure it was coming over after the first pump. - if the dealer didnt grease the spindles , but now i have... there is no proof there was no grease in there , but also, how would i know that it was empty... never seen a mower spindle need more than a 2-5 pumps every year to see them spill over keeping water and dirt out of the shaft.

@@rollbot Sorry I didn't get a notice on this comment. I just happened upon it. If you're concerned and nothing has come of it before now, 8 months later, I'd not be concerned. However, for your own peace of mind, pop one spindle bearing out to see if it is sealed on top and bottom of the bearing or if they are tapered bearings. If they have tapered bearings, be sure to grease before reinstalling and pre-load the bearing in order to keep the spindle from going into a 'Death Wobble' or 'Tank Slapper'. You can pop one blade spindle out pretty quickly as well to check for tapered or enclosed ball bearings. Factory does grease everything that is greaseable however the dealer is also supposed to do a 100% check and service before sending it out the door. I never hold my breath for dealers to do anything as I paid for it so I'll make sure it is ready to run like I stole it and if it breaks, I'll fix it. Learn that statement, live by it and you'll be much happier in life. Never depend upon anybody, be your own man. Hope you subscribed, liked and thanks for watching.

Great video, not much on youtube about this. Some pointers: 1. You (or the previous person) mixed up the nylon and metal washers. That nylon washer goes on the bottom and the metal goes on top. 2. Just under that metal washer (between metal wash and dust cap) is supposed to be a rubber gasket. Gets smashed/ripped easily so not very effective, but it’s supposed to be there. 3. If you google “hustler super parts manual”, a pdf should show up. 4. I “marine greased” everything...

Thank you kind Sir. I just put them back where they were. They didn't make any sense to me other than they were there and possibly used as spacers. I will put them on the bottom although I still see no sense in them being there at all. Thanks again Billy Bae!
