I have smugmug, but the leap to the selling stage is prohibitive.I sell images both via stock and print on demand sites so am aware of monthly volumes. In essence it's an expensive storage site.
Yes it is expensive if you are just using it for storage, but a good perk if you are using it for a website. You can also set links to your print on demand site from it rather than upgrade to their portfolio plan.

Well it's a personal choice. I personally believe that if you want to include a copyright watermark, then put it in the corner so it doesn't obscure the photo. Big watermarks put off potential buyers because they cannot see the image clearly.
@@IanMiddletonPhotographyTravel then don’t put misleading titles. ofc everybody needs are different, and even if someone tells them that THIS is the best, watching the video, might convince them or not. tell everybody why you consider ‘something’ the best (as in title) and let us decide for ourselves if will be for us too

Well it does index Smugmug sites, but you have to setup the Google Search within the SM dashboard. The trick to getting better indexing is to create custom pages for your galleries rather than using the default gallery pages.
@@IanMiddletonPhotographyTravel yeah, I'm aware of that work around, but that defeats the purpose of using a site like smugmug. The galleries are one of the reasons why you would choose it over squarespace. Even with the custom pages, there are still issues. I'm not getting blog pages indexed and they are custom. there are plenty of threads in the smugmug forums about this, but no real solutions. there is something weird in the code that just doesn't jive with google. I get redirect errors............nothing is redirected. At least no on my end.
I know, it is definitely one of the downsides to Smugmug. However, I do prefer to create custom pages so I can then make the gallery page look how I want it to look, and simply insert the actually gallery into it.
Do any of these sites allow you to update metadata that stays with the image if it is downloaded? I'd like to manage my photo database in one place with one product instead of having a master copy on my hard drive and a copy that is published. Lots of sites I've visited allow tagging and some metadata editing but it stays on the site only and does not download with or update the original file.
I just tested Smugmug and as I suspected it doesn't. All these sites import the metadata, but don't modify what is embedded in the file itself. You can get a cloud based library with Adobe Lightroom though.
