In this video we demonstrate how to use our SMUGs over SM-11 White Satin Matte!
SMUGs (Semi-Moist Underglazes) are intense, opaque colors which are especially good for watercolor effects and painting of fine detail. Semi-Moist Underglazes are packaged in pans, like watercolors. Use water and brush to apply.

If the painting were to be glazed over with a glossy, food-safe glaze, would that allow the work to be then food-safe?

Once you apply the underglaze paint, once dry, can you apply a clear glaze over? for food safe dinnerware? I am a bit new with all of this! but love your products!!! :)

If I applied this directly on bisque and then applied a clear glaze over and fired, yes, it would be food safe. With the matte glaze as a base and the underglaze over I do not apply a clear glaze on top. ~Cara

Instead of using the white matt base... i would like to know how the smug works on white porcelain clay? and if i do use it on porcelain - should the piece not be used for food serving (because of the smug)?

Thank you very much for your videos. I understand that you applied three coats of satin glaze and then painted with SMUG underglaze paint. Don't you apply a transparent glaze after painting?

For this particular technique, you do not have to apply a transparent glaze. This technique mimics the traditional Majolica Technique so when the glaze heats up in the kiln, it absorbs the SMUG painted design thus giving it a glossy coating. Does this answer your question?

@@isalozanoy SMUGs are food safe when covered by a food-safe glaze. I use this technique for decorative items, because it hasn't been tested for food safety in this use. If you want to do a majolica technique that is certified food safe use the Teachers Palette glaze line, a base of TP-11 Cotton and various TP glazes on top for color. ~Cara ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P6ZZwaxEAZE.html
