The tragedies of 1922 and 1923 should not be forgotten. It is a reason why we need to have zero conflicts anywhere on our planet
My pappou is a refugee from Ayvali. We have other family from Asia Minor, Smyrna. This video tells the actual story of what happened from August 1922 until the disgraceful population exchange the following year. Athens had abandoned its people in Asia Minor, the Europeans had abandoned the Greeks of Asia Minor, the Bolsheviks helped Ataturk defeat the Greeks and I think even God had abandoned Smyrna, yet one man, one hunchback pastor, an American saved us. Asa, like many on the docks never wavered from their faith. Already the American Embassy had saved hundreds, but what Pastor Asa K Jennings did, showed humanity at its finest. Asa saved hundreds of thousands and in the process became the Admiral of the Greek Fleet. Thanks to these fine people, I take a softer approach to the USA than I normally do to other regimes who destroy communities or prop up warlords and fascists. We the people who suffered under the Ottomans and Turkish Nationalists must do everything in our power to always stand up for the oppressed regardless of race, creed, colour or religion. We must learn from tragedy. To our neighbours, we must always talk peace and friendship, while we cannot forget the past, we must build the future.
Lastly, I have a face for radio or I would still be with the prettiest Brasiliera camera operator that the Gods ever created haha, hence apologies for the hat hair. I have made some good videos thanks to her, her patience and talents were far superior to mine.
Please subscribe to the RU-vid Channel. Its not a professional channel by any stretch but I try bring some Greek themed stories to light, as well as Italian and other regions of interest.

Thanks Katerina. I am keen to read it. I read his grandson’s book which was based on Asa’s diary. I wrote some articles in ASA and the tragedy. So sad

Re the quick and dramatic introduction clip, I have no idea where it’s from. It was on my lap top. If anyone knows what it’s from or where, let me know as I will credit the owner

Given the context of the video with its storytelling and its stance, quote, prop up warlords and fascists, unquote, in the descripton below the video, stands out as a grudgeful and misleading allusive reference to Kemal Ataturk which unduly downplays the man's efforts in practice to bring about greater peace between the two neighboring countries and their peoples in the aftermath of Greco-Turkish War of 1919-1922.

Seriously downplaying the Kemal factor. Tell that to the millions who died or were displaced?? We are lucky that I’m diplomatic. U have no idea what it’s like to be killed, raped, beaten or displaced because you are are a minority. Kemal was great for Turkey but the loss of lives for Greeks, Armenians, Assyrians, Levantine, Jews was shocking. It’s called genocide and for my people it was a tragedy. I get it, a larger than life figure but to the descendants, a tragedy. Put yourself in the shoes of the people slaughtered or those hungry in the docks for two weeks! We are not grateful to Kemal Or the nationalists for the genocide!

@@billywood8870The enmity that existed between the peoples historically and hostilities it gave rise to in wartime were deplorable and inevitable sadly. But it's also unjustifiable to call a man what he is not for what he has done for the best interest of his own people and country when the sides were fighting each other to death literally to the extinction of each other, it's undeniable both sides wished to accomplish ''that'' during the war. I specifically made reference to the statesmanship of the man after the war to raise acknowledgement to his works as a peacemaker to build bridges and bring about a reconciliation between the two sides.
