On April 12, 2016, I set a Safeco Field record by snagging 20 baseballs. Here are some of the highlights.
Also, in case you're interested, here's my blog entry (with more than 40 photos) about this game: zackhample.mlbl...
Thanks for watching, and don't forget to follow me on Twitter: @zack_hample

I got a funny story. About 8 years ago Ichiro threw a ball up during batting practice. There was a small group he threw it up and I jumped over everyone and snagged it. This lady (clearly an adult) almost starts to cry. I’m in HS at the time and I immediately get heckled by the group of people who also did not get the ball. I literally took off running and that ball is in my living room today. I almost died but it was worth it

6:37 was real cool of you Zack, I honestly came back just to watch that part to put a smile on my face. I've seen you give many balls away but that one always makes me feel good inside. I caught my first homers on the fly at dodger stadium last year before game 5 of the NLDS vs. the mets when we lost. However, I gave one of my caught balls to a kid that day and a lot of people I tell this about, heckle me for it; In reality the kid and his fathers smile when I handed it to them really made me feel great. It also gave them an early head start on father/son baseball bonding. It must feel great to make young baseball fans days each game you go to bud.

I am so bummed out that you came up to Safeco and I haven't gotten to meet you Zack. Love watching all your videos & watching again because I always seem to catch something new. My best day at the field was at Tacoma Rainiers (AAA Mariners affiliate) a couple years ago. Two toss ups and a double barehanded catch with my cell phone in one hand but luckily off the bounce. Which is hard to do but a good day for a ball hawk on a wheelchair. My first HR ball was from Mariners legend Alvin Davis sitting with my family in left field at the now blown up kingdome. Keep making videos because for me it would be something I would do if I could roam the aisles with you.

Loved Z's comments about toss ups. While it's maybe not as adrenaline inducing as catching a batted ball, the interactions with players/coaches are the thing. Getting an Angles commemorative ball tossed up by Mike Trout to the seats in CF was every bit as special as catching a game HR. IMO.

On another note,Just wanted to say i think its great what you did giving the A-Rod money to charity, But you know what even if you would have kept all the money there's NOTHING wrong with that at all, You paid the ticket price just like everyone else and for many people catching a ball like that could change their life financially, They talk shit but I bet most of the ones talking if they would have caught it would have been collecting the $$$, ( which is perfectly fine, A-Rod has the money, if he wanted it back so bad he could afford it, Anyways long of the short of it, Ignore all the loud mouths, Keep doing you!

+Jason Guevara I plan to be back there someday (not sure when at this point), so who knows -- maybe we'll run into each other.

Alright dude. I'm extremely jealous. You have so much more of an advantage with that season ticket holder privilege being allowed in an hour earlier. Without that advantage, showing up only 2 hours earlier, the Mariners are basically minutes away from being done with their BP by the time the gates open for everyone else. On my best day ever, I may have got 3 balls max. Another huge factor that I am noticing. Attendance is down significantly at Safeco Field over the years adding higher chances of getting more balls. I'm going to end this by saying getting baseballs during batting practice was far more fun than the actual games! Congratulations on breaking the record Zack!

P.S. I live in Seattle and If I ever get lucky enough to get season tickets, I'm going to try to break your Safeco Field record :)

Thanks for the reply Zack! And I apologize for this lengthy response. It would be fitting to have an actual Mariner fan hold the record at Safeco some day for sure :) The only thing that is going to be most difficult for me is swallowing my pride and wearing the visiting teams hat and jersey. Haha. Zack I have now seen all your videos and I am truly amazed! You got 36 baseballs in one day, I counted my baseballs that I collected over the years from the Mariners and I have exactly 36 baseballs as well haha! What are the odds! I even remember how I got my first ball. When I was like 13 or 14 years old, Kazuhiro Sasaki threw to me my first ball. Having said all this, I have one question for you Zack. Were you hassled at all by security or employees at the field for moving around with seats? I remember in the early 2000's the employees there were like the "seat ticket police" and would always make sure you were sitting in your actual seat. It must be easier now, since attendance numbers are down.

Thanks Goose. My pros is that I played like 9 years of little league baseball. So I still got the hand eye coordination for catching balls. My downside is that my knowledge of the players is next to nill because I haven't followed the mariners as much as I used to in the early 2000's. Guess I gotta learn some Spanish and Japanese as well haha.

A new ball costs $6, so he owns at least $36000 worth of baseballs
