I’ve used Dawn and water for years. It’s amazing how fast the insects died. Curled up and fell away and it works fantastic. So glad to see you using it and letting people know.
Remember what I told you after the hurricane? All those blown down trees make for great rodent and rabbit habitat, and where there are rodents, there are also snakes. Your coyote and bobcat population is growing as well
Kinda surprised he was just hangin out in the corner - would have figured he'd been in the enclosure closer to where the eggs are layed. At least he was in plain site!
I’m a FedEx driver in our rural mountain area and I also have seen more snakes than ever on the roads and yards. Also my first ever rattlesnake in person since I was a kid.
That’s all I’ll ever be using anymore is dish soap and water. I don’t like using chemicals if I don’t have to. also, just so you know, those won’t hurt your chickens. They’ll just eat their eggs.
Might wanna consider outdoor cats. I live in an area with lots of Copperheads and our neighbors find them on their properties but our two cats appear to keep them at bay.
That snake was after the eggs not the chickens. They will eat small birds but not full grown chickens. All the high water levels due to all the rain is pushing them to higher ground.
Hear the Foothills of the Smokey's in Tennessee. We got timber Rattlers and some coverheads. No matter what everyone says there are no water. Moccasins here
It is weird, I’ve seen a ton of snakes around here too. I don’t think I saw any last year but I’ve seen probably 14 just out on the road now as I’m driving by. I’ve heard a lot of people saying that it was a big snake year.
"It's too early"...I thought you farmer folks got up at the crack of dawn. Based on the shadows, it's gotta be 9:30-10:00 o'clock in the morning. C'mon Tiffany, even with that full-time job, you gotta get up earlier than the crack of noon 😜. And I still wanna see some videos of Tiffany's toys.
He was probably after eggs. We find black snakes up in the nest boxes from time to time. Worst thing was when our lab had a Timber Rattler cornered by the chicken coop, barking in his face! He was coiled up and rattling his tail. Super scary. Im shocked neither the dog nor I got bit. I read they aren't aggressive snakes and may even play dead. Thank goodness.
Andrew, I read one comment, and that person said that they are having luck with Dawn, which I did not with wasps. I live in New Mexico and there are cock roaches here and that dawn put them to sleep in about 1 minute. (Outside not in), can't wait to see what happens when I get that green stuff
WOW man i have been using bee killer for years now. I have a lot of them doing the spring time making there home. I am going to use that next time. I am glad that your Chickens was ok & didn't get killed by the snake . My oldest son Brian loves snake man . He Had a ten foot ball python as a pet when he was like 10 years old. I didn't like that snake but it was a good snake though . I don't like any kind of snake at all. You take care buddy.
You need to watch Hornet King - he feed his chickens & emus the larva, I have heard of snakes in the nest box with chicken. I have been telling everybody about your soap & water wasp spray.
Good so see you are letting your Chickens do a bit of free ranging. Some grass and all the bugs the find is very beneficial in their diet. that snake looks a bit like what we call a carpet snake, or a python. I don't think they are the same, just a resemblance. Both are harmless to humans. Once you spray those wasp nests, I hope you pull the nests down and stand on them. Otherwise the eggs and larvae will hatch, and before you know it, THEY ARE BACK.
Chicken's kill and eat snake's. But the snakes will kill and eat chicks and eggs. I have 2 foot 1/4" hardware cloth around the bottom of my chicken yard. I fold it in half , dig around bury it then tie the hardware cloth to the chicken wire.
Andrew what is the mixture of dawn dish soap to water do you use the blue or the green My son is having trouble with ground hornets would the dish soap and water work on them 🤔
I didn't wonder why yu didn't kill it.... I wondered why you didn't (with gloves on) reach down and pick the snake up and carry it away?? Says the guy who hand caught a Cotton Mouth that I found slithering through the yard one afternoon!!!
