A quick trip north for a spot of “herping” around Yea wetlands. Whilst late summer is not an ideal for snakes, recent rain and cooler than average temperatures gave us hope of seeing a few snakes. Certainly not an abundance, but we did manage to see six snakes in the 2-3 hours we spent walking around the wetlands reserve. We turned over three each of the Lowland Copperhead and Mainland Tiger Snake. I was never quick enough on the camera to capture the Tigers but managed to get a bit of footage of two Copperheads. Two Rakali were also seen in the river which made for an excellent morning and gave us reason to get back there next Spring.
