As a highly certified technician I must say I wish I started Aultel. I started with a basic snap on scanner and upgraded every 3 years because it was cheaper than just buying the update. I have used both tools. Snap on is faster in my opinion and the oscilloscope on the snap on modis is also faster. That said, I use oscilloscope a hand full of times a year. Aultel is better priced, covers more vehicles for scans without an expensive upgrade that costs a thousand plus a year to keep up to date. Smh... I spent to much on the wrong tool
Just bought one not too impressed pretty slow sometimes seems cool but over hyped it seems balance test and injectors cut out test seem so so. Kind of hard to navigate
Programming on the autel is a joke. Most of the what they could do years ago was being done illegally and now it’s not the same. They got sued and lost a lot of features.
@@ne14lov22002 I just resub every other year, I work for an independent shop, so current model year vehicles always go back to the dealer. But this is still cheaper than snap-on.
What you don't show is how slow they operate, snap on is more simplified and fast. Autel is super slow and confusing to use on most vehicles. I have an autel ms608bt I believe it is. It's the one that does tpms and it's been great but it's painful some days how slow it goes thru menus.
Thanks for the video. Did you have to register the product or search for updates before you could use it? My big concern is that most of these are made in China. And with my last Autel, then Foxwell, I couldn't even use them until I registered them and established an account, then did a update (for the brand new product). One of them provided me with a free gift- a virus in the update that my A/V fortunately detected. Just odd that you cant use your new product until you provide your personal data to a Chinese company and then must download Chinese software to your com then transfer to the device. Cant go direct. Hope to hear what you went through. Cheers.
Eric o of s.m, a, up in main has all the good diagnostic tools ,the one you got is very good, snap on is a bit expensive for what you get ,it leaves the door open for other company’s to offer better and cheaper scan tools ,lift your game snap on or you will be left behind, thanks for the video mate
Ford does offer what they call "police dark mode" which disables the interior lights as well as the outside courtesy lamps in each side-view mirror. Presumably to provide extra security for an officer to maintain his or her night vision, and not be outlined by their own vehicle upon opening the doo
I Use autel, snap on and Bosch kts daily, they all do stuff that each other doesn’t but the autel does way more than either the other 2 can do and is way faster. Also doesn’t crash like the snap on does!
I use Jaltest, work for several type of diesel equipment, also used for some stationary engines. it has worked quite well for me. www.cojaliusa.com/products/jaltest-commercial-vehicles/
A great independent shop has multiple flagship tools. They all do things the other won't. Autel seems to do more faster for way less money. It's the tool I would buy for myself.
Eh, for fords ill settle with a 30$ adaptor and free forscan.. once you learn how the asbuilt data is encrypted then u can do everything with some saved code templates and also do all your oscilloscope stuff and triggering.. even do the key codes and lockouts, unbrick an ecu without the damn dealership.. all i need,.
Dark mode turns off the interior light when doors are open and disables the parking lights from flashing when you lock it. It does not have anything to do with taillights.
With the advent of secure gateway now being used by Chrysler and all other manufacturers ready to follow suit. It was said at the Matco show in Orlando last week by the Launch tech guys that autel will no longer be granted access along with many other brands through auto authority starting this fall. I hope that is not true. That then makes these tools "read only" devices. No special functions. No code clearing or relearn capabilities. May be true. May not but would hate to spend money on the tool then find out 2018 and up it's a paperweight. Already had to register my shops scanners with auto auth to allow access to Chrysler Security Gateway. 50 bucks a year and all manufacturer said to be going that way in the next year.
Like the 906bt. What chip/tuner would you recommend for 2002 f250 7.3. I'm towing about 13,500 lb with trailer and Track hoe. Bone stock with 63000 miles on it.
I was about to buy a snap on scanner, and then I came across the mk808bt. Said screw you to the expensive snap on scanner with crazy expensive constant updates, and purchased the autel. Extremely happy with my choice
The first video I’ve seen that actually shows how to use it!! I was already pretty sure I was going with one of the mid to higher range Autel models, but this helps make the decision easier. Thanks for your time and knowledge!!
wakey that thing breaks and you try to deal with customer service or try to get the warranty to cover it I have three mechanics that have been to my shop to borrow my Snap-On scanner because of this junk they just upgraded their processor if anything was to go wrong with my Snap-on which it never does here you go fixed whatever I don't have to deal idiots
You lose credibility when you Snap On bash with your videos this one is the title, I did not even watch the video just because it is clear you are a Snap On basher from the title. What you fail to inform your viewers is that the Snap On scan tools have more features that will walk you through the actual repair and not just tell you the code and a small tid bit about the code leaving you to come up with how to proceed with the repair. Just review the product and let it stand on its own two feet.
I have a 2000 dodge 5.9L 3/4 ton. Majority of techs have no clue how to troubleshoot digital. All they know how to do is replace parts until it's fixed. The worse ones are the mfg shops. They only want to work on the new ones, because those failures normally don't exist. Mostly parts changers that is all.
Love my autel 906. I hated that bt version . prefer the call and love the $499 yearly subscriptions if you get it straight from autel. Dont bother with snap on or matco
If you get the scanner from MAC and keep updating it every year the scan tool keeps warranty goin as long as you don’t forget to update it Talk to a MAC dealer in your area
I am looking for a scanner equipped to handle a newer Ram. I saw a 5000 snap on tool that was able to read the fault for the problem which what boiled down to a bad wire connection. the tool was able to try and communicate with the dtcm, when no comm was made it gave a wiring diagram as to what wire powered it, what connectors it went through/had all the way to the battery, what type of connectors, pin read out etc. Any autel scanners capable of this? here's a link to the video i watched for reference. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gFbFCyi6pKY.html
Just so U know Stephen coding is not programming. B4 U can go 2 programming whatever CM U R designing it has 2 B identifiable that's when it's given a code. Once it's coded then the next step is programming. Thanks Steven Cote
so i am a lube tech and i do a lot of the newer cars that have the built in e brake onto the calipers was looking to see if you knew of a scanner that would have a live data feature, freeze frame and the abilty to command things that is at a dececnt price compared to the snap on scanners..
I bough the Autel 906 instead to save a couple hundred dollars. It is the same but is tethered to the car, no blue tooth. In hindsight the BT version would have been worth the extra. There are many times you want the tool with you under the car or hood so you can do bidirectional tests and be there to watch the results. These are incredible scan tools. Probably better than Snap-On for euro. I believe the only difference between this one and their more expensive Elite model is the programming J box.
Very SLOW scan tool compared to the Snapon Solus Edge. As a "flat rate" tech. we are expected to get to the point asap, time is money. That`s why I prefer the Snapon Solus Edge
This is a great scanner. No doubt. But the Bosch scanner is $3k and comes with a fast processor and amazing customer support. It's also oem recognized which means Bosch will get specific updates from ford for example if needed. Its a lot more but most parts stores will finance on commercial accounts. Best move I ever made.
Nope...never again. Bought from O'Reilly's during a road trip gone to hell. It worked fine don't get me wrong. The problem is it only lets you scan so many times before you have to buy tokens and hook the tool up to a computer. If I buy a scan tool I should be able to use it as much as I want without having to buy additional anything. Of course I went over the five scans on the same vehicle per month limit, diagnosing and fixing the truck. I was so pissed I couldn't see straight cuz nowhere on the box does it say that you will have to make additional purchases in order to use the tool. I will never buy any of their products ever again. I bought the upgraded version from harbor freight for the same price as the autel and it even does ABS and airbag. Works like a charm. Best part of all is I didn't have to pay extra to use my tool. That'd be like buying a 10mm wrench and then only being able to turn it 60 revolutions in a month. Nope...nope...nope....😡. If they sent it to you for free to review, I would ask them for your money back.
We have one of these at our shop and I agree that you can do a ton with it, even the TPMS stuff. Our only complaint is that it's slow and navigating it can feel like you're stuck in a maze. I'm personally use to the snap-on scanner from my last shop and recently bought one. IMHO snap-on did a good job simplifying your vehicles options so they're easy to get to and saves time. I ended up paying twice what the Autel is going for though, so there's that.
YUP but you get what you pay for, like insanely good customer service and one on one help almost 24/7 365 days a year. It's much more than just buying a tool. My reps literally given me tools before to do a job, name 1 other tool makers who'll do that! Mac Tools won't..
@@dieseldabz7104 My Snap-on reps come around like it's my job to keep them in business. With the way business fluctuates at my shop, I can't always afford to buy from them on a weekly basis. The quality is there for sure, but I wait for promos or until I really need a tool before buying off the truck. Its unfortunate but understandable, the service you receive depends on how much/how often you spend with them. Back to the scan tool. Keep in mind that you may have to pay for updates to be able to use it on newer cars and to use continue using many of its selling features. My Solus Legend is due for the latest update at $450+ or monthly subscription of about $75.
@@airs2k Snap-On updates scanners twice a year. You can either pay for each update or get a subscription that includes the updates and access to SureTrack, RealFix, etc. I bought my Solus Legend scanner 2 years ago on promotion for $2,400 and traded it back to them for $2,500 towards a Triton D-10 that includes a lab scope. So I definitely didn't lose money on my first scanner, and it was great, I just out grew it.
I just had a Harbor Fright Automotive Pro scan tool that was deprecated by an update because the manufacture only put 16 GB of space on a $1000 scan tool, the update locked the scan tool and rendered it inoperable. No problem I have a $169.00 two year extended warranty, its only been 32 days and the Harbor Fright in store 30 day warranty has expired. Here is where it gets odd and sketchy, Harbor Fright refuses to send your item in for repairs when you have an extended warranty, but states in my case that I lose my $169.00 extended warranty when they replace the item. Okay you might say, just ask for full refund it has only been 32 days and they should refund the cost of the item and the prorated extended warranty, right?. No Harbor Fright says because they are issuing a refund you lose or "Use Up" your warranty. I found that you should not try explaining how the warranty runs for two years and include replacements and repairs for that two years unless they decide to prorate the warranty. Otherwise they will need to honor repairing or replacing the the item for two years. Or refund the unused portion of the warranty, nevertheless I was refused the extended warranty refund. Which resulted with me filling a case with the California Attorney Generals office because Harbor Frights main office resides in California, once HFT was contacted by the California AGs offices they refunded a portion of money and stated it was a misunderstanding with the restocking fee. What restocking fee?. Bottom line it appears the update was meant to kill or deprecate the Scan Tool so that I would buy a newer product or exchange my item one time with Harbor Fright pocketing the $169.00 extended warranty fee. Harbor fright should be made to repair the ZR-PRO™ Professional Automotive Scanner and return it to me. I wonder if it can reprogram the Tcm on a later model gm truck or van after replacing the transmission. It has to be reflashed or reset after replacing a 6l80.
I don’t own it, but you need an autel that comes with a j2534 module because you have to flash through the acdelco tools website. This BT960 won’t do it. If you want to flash most modules you need a pc and a j2534 tool to do it.
Here's a question... Does this need a satelite/gps uplink? Does it store all the date internally, or at some point if no longer supported etc, will there be nothing programming wise left to perform scans and what not. Im not keep on replacing tools often, or doing subscriptions and all that jazz. I just want a tool that can get inside the computer, change parameters if needed, and display a few graphs now and agina (ie voltage at injectors, and other components...) I work on old cars well before ODB, but I do have a few cars that are more modern that need some computer assist. Thanks
@@David-mc8zy autel are turds. Lie on a grand scale and just dont care. Programs not finished they still upload into the tool. Thinking they are doing you a favour when you get using it. Then find you reach end of it without your job being completed but getting a device unable to communicate with ecm screen. Full of lies autel should be renamed. Awfel
I’m looking for a scan tool. I have a 96 Silverado and a 06 Chevy express. on the Silverado I need to set the distributor with a computer. When I read the description on the scan tools I don’t see anything about it. Is there something you would recommend Witch and such?
So I'm getting into buying and selling vehicles.just a part time thing as I LOVE working on cars and I CAN make money I have enough mechanic know how as well worked at body's shop for around 7 yrs. Anyhow what is the cheapest/budget bi-directional scan tool that you know of. I will upgrade later but just getting everything to start got most hand tools and everythting but deff need one of these.please I don't care if it's Chinese made or what it's just to START with Intill flip first couple cars. Did find a cheap old snap-on MT250P scanner with some carriages but not sure if worth it as no longer updating and the black cartridges that can burn to are expensive. Well if you could give me your oppion that would be great like I said don t care where it's made or nothing like that just the bidirectional ability. Thanks and sorry for the book P.s. any idea/input on a ANCEL AD610
If anyone is thinking of buying one of these in the Uk from Ebay, don't get the bluetooth version, I've got one, brilliant tool but the battery is rubbish, Autel Uk will not replace the battery without sending it off somewhere far, at my expense etc etc. I have to have a 12volt lipo battery and lead plugged in while I use mine. I'm not going to argue with anyione about this, I have tried all avenues, so don't suggest one. Buy the wired version, it's cheaper than ther BT model. Other that that, if you buy the wired version, you will be very happy with it.
Have several wireless dongle drive off mostly to brain dead youngsters. I took the heat once Lucky for me most of my customers are local and cool about it. Now we flag dlc and the shelf.i really like wireless/Bluetooth scanners but when you have 4-6 vehicles in your bays .....sometimes you get scattered
1:56 why do we need so many adapters when OBD-II has been around since 1996? I know some non-NA cars took a while to comply, but that was almost two decades ago.
Hey Stephen cox do you know if this tool will work with a 2004 Nissan Sentra for abs auto bleed? I need to get a tool that can communicate with the abs module but Nissan stealership doesn't want people to fix their own vehicle's. Do you have any Nissans around you could test this on?
instead of doing several vague examples one good example would sell the scanner !! based on this review and the fact you edited many times to give the "illusion" of a fast processor i call this just another waste of a commercial
Great content man…. I have a shop and service a lot of BMWs for rental company, have had a lot of Brake jobs but after we do the work, the parking brake malfunction comes on. Would I be able to reset with this scanner. Also do suspension work on them and have to reset the rack and pinion, do you think it will work for this problems?
This is so misleading. I have this scan tool and snap on and this thing is ok at best. Has some little things that snap on many it be able to do but it’s not end all scanner. And the programming feature is not that great. It works on a bmw ok and some Mercedes but most you age to pay for. Also programming any other vehicle is the same as just having a j box dongle. You still age to have a laptop with whatever software for the vehicle plus pay for subscriptions for that vehicle. It’s a pain in the butt. I most use my snap on and use this autel if and when it doesn’t have a certain feature and I’m trying to see if autel does. I’d still rather take the snap on edge all day long
All I can say the first 8 Minutes there with you talking a lot of what the machine can't do and what it should do but you didn't actually do anything what a waste of time I stopped after 8 minutes because if you haven't done anything by then I'm sure you're not going to you obviously love hearing your own voice
Any decent technician will have more than one diagnostic tool. Snap on has the benefit of a oscilloscope which will confirm a fault part instead of just reading codes.
Hi Stephen I'm new to learn about all these car programming device and I'm following all yr videos, and I'm learning a lots from these videos, can u tell me from all these devices which one is the best one between Im608 and thinktool
Hello Boys, is there any scanning tool that can read the past historic repairs of a car, for example any repairs on the engine or the gear box, at least we can not be easily get deceived before buying a used car. please help
I was looking to get the 908 version which is the step above this one but honestly i think im leaning towards this one because it can do everything the 908 can with the only exception being the ecu programming (which i don't see myself having a need to do, ever). As far as i know ecu coding is probably the most your ever going to need a scanner to do and this tool does it. If anyone knows why the 908 is worth the extra money let me know. Thanks for the video.
I had an autel, was great until they dropped support. Wouldn’t even give me the most recent update, so I lost 2 year models of support. Very disappointed.
I have this scanner...I like it but it does have its limitations. It worked great at reprogramming a new headlight control on a 2014 F Type Jag, but it will not code or reprogram any new parts or modules on my 2009 Buick Enclave. I am guessing that it will be the same for any GM car. Foreign cars yes, dodge and others, but not GM. So buyer beware.
Hey man thanks 4 this video.....do you know it the transmission adaptation on the Icarsoft CR Max cover Mercedes ISM ?I know that some Autel scanners do does that one does ?
I don’t want to be that guy but if that unit was sent to you by Autel , there’s nothing bad about it you would say right ? Also a heads up that it can read a vin on a 99 E36
I have a 906 BT is does not auto ID older vehicles. I have a snap on that will ID the vehicles that the autel won`t. I like the 906 BT except I cannot get the screen clean.
Well you only showing what it says it can do but it's different to see the tool in action doing what is says it can do, so at this point you not showing me nothing other than just the unpacking because I don't know if it actually works.
That scanner sucks bye far the worse scanner . The snap on scanner is easy to use bye far. That scanner can't do promasters and sprinters . I had to use a snap on scanner for both vehicles.
