AND FOR THE RECORD THAT ISN’T MY CAT..... it came into the shop it’s either a stray or the guy that rents the back shop but either way it was EVICTED right after the cameras were turned off.
Heart breaking for me to hear a cat asking for food or love like that. I am an animal lover, regardless of what they are. Hope you didnt hurt it Clay. 😔
Hope the kitty got sent to a shelter I found a kitten under the hood of a Subaru that came in for some work no one at work wanted him so I decided to keep him got him at 8wks old he's now 13wks old and he's the sweetest damn cat ever he's a pain in the ass and makes me wear socks when I sleep but when I come home from work he's on my bed and meows at me demanding pets and love
No I just let him know he didn’t have to go home but he couldn’t stay in the shop. I put him outside. It’s 200 degrees in there with the doors shut and fans off. I doubt he would have wanted to stay the second night if he survived the first night.
The bolt biter looks awesome to use. The FDX seems more everyday on the go for use on normal bolts to a bit rounded bolts. The bitter looks like its going to help when its completely rounded like you said. Great video
@@michaelstjohn6086 what, why couldn't you use the gearwrench everyday? Though I would hope that your at least a little bit competent in your profession that you would be rounding off nuts and bolts every day.
I started looking around for a cat! I know you work on big rigs but didn’t know you also worked on “Cats”.LOl Thanks for the comparison. I admit that I had questions about the gear wrench test rig.....
I have a couple sets of half inch drive metrinch sockets and they are very handy. They cover a big range of sizes and never had them round a bolt. We use the one set on impacts quite often. I’m looking for something similar in a smaller set for in a travel tool box and the bolt biters are the closest I’ve found so far.
I have a 10 mm snap on from 1977 according to the mark on it. The socket had humps in it to grab the center of the bolts now they just make the socket like everybody else and just tighten up the tolerance on them.
Great video clay I’m have pick up some of them !!! Heck I thought Thomas was there whining nothing was better than snap on lmao 😂 have a good day my friend
I'd be all for gear wrench if it was made in America. This is also the reason for the price difference but hey y'all keep supporting China and there economies
Only reason I did this test was because there were people in the first video saying the FDX sockets would do the same so ? That’s the purpose behind this one.
For those who say he’s cheating. This man loves snap on. I’ve never met him. However all you have to do is watch his snap on Friday videos and you can easily tell. So if he wanted to cheat he’d cheat for the snap on to work not the other way around.
Thank you sir. I really appreciate the head to head test. Another awesome video. I hope people understand the time it takes to not only shoot this stuff but edit to be as professional as you do. One question I had is do you think a standard socket, say 11/16 might fit that severely rounded bolt even though it started life as a 19mm and the 18 won't fit or even a similar situation on the 10?
I don't know.. it seems to me that you are comparing apple 🍎to orange. The bolts are gearwrench and you are using snap on on it. Where snap on itself is using different techniques and with maybe different technique. Wish compare same sockets category and different material cr-mol. You didn't show one of the most important in gearwrench where you can use impact wrench on it. Yes and sure you have to have a real example... I am not pro any of these buetiful tools but we need to be fair
The only reason this video was done after the first video (if you care to watch it there’s a card in there to link it) was because people said that snap On FDX Sockets will do the same thing ......
@@k9cop998 Thank you so much for your comments. Really elaborated alot along in the discussion. Now it is clear for me at least that there is no difinative socket that can and will extract all smashed bolts or nuts. And that it depends on the way it damage. Prepare for future. I have to go to my Tailor to make me a deeper pocket in my pants 😆😆😆😆 to get all these sockets and tools that my hands will reach. One cannot know the shape and size of those bastards.
It ain’t right,if you can hold that block in your hand. The reason the bolt is rounded off in the first place is because the bolt is frozen. Through a little red locktite on em and let’s see what happens.
Your comparing2 different types of tools a socket an a bult extrator. So I'd understand the video if anything it makes snapon look way better that there socket are so good they act as bult extrator s compared to gearwrench who can only make rachet wrenches an should stick to that...
They whole purpose was in the original video we have a subscriber that wanted to see them head to head because some were saying the FDX would do what they do
Do you plan on buying any of the new Harbor Freight "ICON" ratchets and do a review. That new ICON professional tools appears to be all the talk on RU-vid over the last couple of weeks.
Koon Trucking I see , I personally have both and I think both were worth their prices as the bolt biters are superb and as an everyday socket, the semi deep FDX’s are the best socket you will ever use imo
@@callumjemison3299 As someone who turns wrenches on the side here in the rustbelt, pretty hard to say FDX is the best when they won't fit on half the fasteners here. I love snap-on but fdx's are more niche than everyday.
Snap on has lot of great tools worth the price of them but not the best in everything the bolt biters by gearwrench look like they work better how do they stack up against the Matco turbo sockets
The fact that they work in either direction is what pushed them to the top of the list for me. I have use Irwin turbo sockets for a long time but if you need them on a bolt with reverse threads you will be screwed. I also like the fact the Gearwrench has the “-“ minus sizes for severely rounded bolts and nuts. And you don’t have the beat them on with a hammer.
The FDX advertises it takes off 80 or 90% rounded bolts right ? I didn’t come up with this test I just demo the Bolt Biters and everyone said put an FDX on it ? So that’s what I did
You know what was funny, was at SEMA 2019 this year in Vegas, at the Gearwrench booth they were playing your video demonstrating the bolt biter on a big screen, which I thought was really cool tbh
Those bolt biters are the real deal I had received mine a week ago and used them and I can agree they are bad to the bone 🦴❗️The FDX sockets are for those head bolts that are barely stripped out. I have the FDX and I only purchased them cause I got them on a solid promo deal and they are Ok but the bolt biters are the way to go for sure
I never really understood the point of the fdx sockets. Why bother when I can just grab the next size down or one of those in between metric or SAE sizes that gather dust in my tool box?
A lot of people just can’t except that gear wrench is stepping their game up And is giving snap on A run for their money At a fraction of the cost i’m a diesel tech for CAT and I use gear wrench 95% of the time and have absolutely no issues
I don't think there's really a comparaison or VS match to make here, it's comparing apple to oranges. One is a socket with some added grip and the other is designed as an extractor and not a everyday use socket.... ...so the Snap-On actually did pretty good when you look at it objectively.
Soooooo we don't talk about the fact that the FDX is marketed designed and sold for bolt with rounded corners? Obviously a six point socket doesn't grip a round piece of stock.... anyways apple's to oranges again. The informed already own the Irwin's we will wait to see what script gearwrench sends you for that one.
What about the Mac Tools Precision Torque sockets? Those are supposed to be the best sockets in the World for rounded fasteners (Mac shares that patent with KinCrome). ...B-T-W I've been watching your channel faithfully for close to two years....I've noticed that you never have any dealings with Mac Tools.
Somewhat off topic. I bought a set of Cornwell sockets a while back and I measured a couple sockets compared to my Snappy and Craftsman sockets. From what I recall the Cornwell was about a thousandth tighter than the Snappy and way tighter than the Craftsman. Granted the Snappy sockets were probably 10 years old and the Craftsman were significantly older than that. I often wondered how a new Cornwell socket (USA made, not BluePower) compared to the FDX. I’ve been tempted to buy a bunch of sockets and have an impartial machinist measure them for me. I also wondered if the FDX sockets were someone’s brilliant idea to get some more mileage out of worn out, undersized tooling.
Blindbatg34 fdx sockets design is a loosely copied version of metrench, before you laugh me out of the garage go on their website and compare. I kept a set on my cornbinder til I got retired, bought th in the early 90's still going strong except for the ratchet's.
For people that are unsure about these bolt extractor sockets, they really do work in real life situations. I was doing a oil chand on a chevy 2500 and needed the 15mm. The person that did the oil change before me stripped the bolt as well as torqued it down 3 times tighter than they should of. I got these GW sockets and was able to get it off. The only thing that you need to know is you do need to put alot of pressure onto the socket while turning, or it will slip off if the bolt is really tight. Also can use a impact if you got the room, pushing on the back of the impact will definitely help out the process. Good luck with these, because if you need these sockets your probably in a bad situation.
I ordered the 10 piece 1/2" drive Gear Wrench extractor set from Home Depot after spinning one of the phony capped lug nuts on my girlfriends Ram 1500 (and what an ego deflating experience that was for a DIYer). I tried to get a vice grip on it but not enough clearance and wasn't sure if the GW sockets would fit but they did. Backed that lug nut off slicker than snot and I went from zero to hero again. I ordered a complete set of one piece chrome plated lug nuts from NAPA for about $40 and replaced all the OEM ones (Dodge wanted $25 a piece for their OEM 2 piece crappy ones). I still have the bad apple as a trophy. Gear Wrench saved my bacon and now I have another tool in the arsenal and I'm thinking of adding the 3/8" drive set just in case. I also have their 5 piece magnetic spark plug socket set which works great on my 2006 Subie. I'm not a mechanic so my tools don't see daily use so take this testimonial at face value. Big thanks to all the professionals who share their time and knowledge (like this video!) so guys like me can have a little fun turning a wrench and maybe feel like a big dog!
Good video but my only thing is when a 3/4 bolt is that rusty and rounded that’s usually cause it’s really stuck and you at least need a extra long 3/8 ratchet
You can use these with an impact. They are impact rated so let it do all the hard work for you. If you haven’t seen the first video I did check it out. They are impressive especially for the price
I feel like gear wrench bolt biters are more extractors and FDX sockets are more for reusing a rough bolt when the biters damage the bolt and you wouldn’t want to reinstall the cheezed up heads. Just opinion but great video. I personally won’t buy FDX sockets for the same reason, I’ll use my cheaper extractors and replace the damaged bolt, cause no body likes putting a bad bolt in, puts bad karma out there and that bad bolt will come back 😂
It's hard to compare the two. Like others said apple's and oranges. The bolt biters r your more twist sockets for extracting the severely rounded bolts compared to the fdx is everyday use. The bolt biters r more comparable to the blue point twist sockets
Hey Clay, do you know if Gearwrench sells a 16- because in the world of big trucks we use a 16 all the time. Or I guess a better question is what does the set run from?
Now that's really funny about you cheating when you demo the bolt biter sockets. I don't know what is expected of you when you do these Who does it better type video's or the impact testing video's. If I thought I was getting cheated I wouldn't watch. But I'm still wondering how you are going to get the best of me when I watch a video. Well as you can see I haven't left the room yet and I'm looking forward too tomorrows video! So keep them coming and myself along with the nay sayers will be front row
