Snap On Killer? Tsunoda KBN-150 Cable tie cutter w/ gripping jaws are excellent. 1/4 Snap On price! 

Personally, I took my regular full size side cutters and ground down the back side flat and flush with the cutting edges to make a flush cut side cutters. It’s held up great for years of daily use as an electrician. I go through multiple bags of zip ties a week, sometimes daily along with cutting a lot of wire and the occasional use as a hammer. Cuts just as flush as a dedicated flush cut. Also pro tip: if you for some reason can’t get a flush cut, use a lighter.

I’ve had the 125 version for a few months now. I love these things. I’ll get the 150s eventually. I use them when I need to make sure the zip ties are perfectly snug. Such a great design.

Doc, I bought a pair of the Tsunodas a couple of weeks ago, and when I got them and started using them I IMMEDIATELY ordered a second pair. They're that good. Before that I used a set of hakko chp-170s. They got the job done; all the ties I cut were always flush. They were a bit awkward to use though because of the size. The tsunodas are perfect. Comfortable to hold and use, and I love the gripping jaws for cinching down zip ties. Tempted to grab another set.

I love these flush cutters, use them every day! I ordered mine on amazon about 6 months ago and they still work flawlessly. I have been using these to also flush cut my Cat 6 ethernet connector terminations. For the money these are the best around and I have tried quite a few brands over the years

I'm not going to say snap-on is junk because it's not and it has a lifetime warranty but I have no need to spend that kind of money on tools because I'm not rich or a daily mechanic. Amazon has opened up a huge market for affordable good tools and it's so awesome! Thanks for the video!

The Tsunoda looks great. Had I known about that model, I would have grabbed one. I still might. But I already have the Snap-on version and they've been the best I've used by far among flush cutters.

Very cool Doc always like seeing different tools. I use Knipex and Mac for flush cuts. The 16mm is a wicked essential tool in the Caterpillar world they put 16's everywhere.

Something else I need that I somehow didn't need before.

Have some vamplier tools along with some Japanese made sunex stuff I bought quite some time ago and great value for the money

How often does one cut a zip tie that's oriented like a ring on their own finger? I can't say I tend to approach them from a specific angle predominantly, but the offset of the Tsudona's seems like it would be more ergonomic to me, particularly when approaching ties from the front, as one often does when they're used as cable ties. You always find the coolest gear. Thank you for your service.

The cost to quality ratio with Tsunoda is hard to beat. I use them and Knipex mainly, dont have any SO as for me they are a little pricey but great pliers all the same.

Seems like an excellent tool in quality, that angle is just awkward and will take some getting used to.

the standard tsunoda flush are very nice as well. the finish is honestly better than the knipex and they seem sturdier. glad you are giving the japanese tools the spotlight. Ko-ken has really won me over recently in the socket and ratchet department. Gonna dig into my 91 f250 soon with my new help

I have those snap on cutters and they actually do leave a bit behind if you don't push into the zip tie. I might try these japanese ones or a pair of Fujiyas.

Doc, have you ever used any cable tie tensioners such as the Klein 86570? They tension and cut. Good reviews on Amazon but I'm still skeptical. I need a tensioner and flush cutter for a fencing project coming up. Having a single tool for both would be great.

I’m thinking that for the money, these should last longer than the crappy Klein ones. I have bought probably a dozen pairs of them and they don’t last long and come out of alignment and don’t cut well. I’ll order a pair of these and see how they last. Thanks for the great content Doc.

I have the KBN-150, but amazon now sells it for $30. Not 4x cheaper than snap-on

A lot of people use the Tsunoda for cutting out Gundam pieces from a model parts sheet which originated in Japan so that may be the reason for its angled design. I watched Adam Savage put one of the models together on his channel and to get the pieces to fit he had to flush cut them.

I have a pair of zip tie pliers they grab and tighten then cut the tie all in one. It tightens the tie very tight, I think they are made by K tool check them out

Great video as always but would you be able to test with other types of cable tie? There are iron / copper and steel cable ties and it would be good to see whether it's that performance that separates the two of them

i just use spring-loaded hand shears to flush cut cable ties. one blade against the block the other blade against the strap - perfect flush cuts everytime, no need for special tools.

Hello again Doc Thank you for another Great Video 👍 While I was watching the video. I don't remember who put this out. To Keep from losing pieces of the zip tie. Put sealant on the tips. That way when you cut the zip tie it stays in place. Again thank you 😊

for most zip ties and general work at home, you can use pretty inexpensive flush cutters that are often in the micro / electronics areas of tools. Cost you $5. I have some I like I think are crescent but I could be wrong, I think mine are made in USA. not sure if that's the case anymore. If you're doing zip ties at your job a lot definitely good to invest in some proper ones that I guess are forged yeah? The cheapie flushcutters are pretty thin, I'm guessing stamped steel. Still you can probably cut hundreds of zip ties with cheapies, or clean up some 3D printed parts of all those sprues and things. For my use, I tend to have to periodically cinch up zip ties so I actually leave a little flag on there but I either cut a little hexagon shape at the end, biting off those razor sharp corners, or I just hit them with a lighter and the heat makes a little soft ball on the end that would be near impossible to cut you.

Huh. never knew they made cutters specifically for wire ties. I've been using the Klein cutters for so long. And I have the battle scars on my arms to prove it. You stick your hand into a tight spot and that angled cut wire ties ALWAYS finds your arm as you pull it out. LOL.

Wish they had a "catching" function like the Japanese catch nippers (Viktor?)

Both tools seem to be geared toward the manufacturing market, as I don't think having a zip tie cut so close to the locking head is such a big deal for the commercial market (i. e. electrician) or a DYI person.

Why not use a Knipex electronics cutter like the 7803125 which also cuts 100% flush ?

There's a version that keeps the flying bit in the tool.

Knipex super knips with lead catcher are the juice that is worth the squeeze.

On the Amazon link, the 4” version (KBN100S) has what appears to be a black “roll-pin” or set screw perpendicular to the plier hinge. Can anyone tell the purpose of this? Could it be a depth of cut adjustment?

General quality aside, why are these better than your standard flush cutter?

I’m sorry, I’m missing something. I use a $4 Home Depot plastic zip tie gun that pulls the cable very tight then cuts it, or more often use the gun then cut them with any pair of small jawed diagonal cutters. That being said, I love precise tools, and guess a perfectly flush cut would matter in electrical work in close spaces or something. BTW, should be pretty easy to make a Kydex cover for these if that’s a concern.

There are so many cutters just as good as Snap Ons, Tsunoda being one of them. I'll take my Icon flush cuts over the snap ons any day.

you are my tool gouro , but i can never understnad your fantic snapon defence...nice tools , way over priced , and you can see on each category... even the ones that thay are not even involved in the making... for me it will always put me off , if a comapny , cant tell that thay have some cheap tools, so i tend to avoid them...but its just me :)

can't you just use flush cutters? Commonly used for electronics, can get them for less than $5. These don't look that different to flush cutters to me.

The proper tool is a 'cable tie gun/cutter' not dykes. It tensions the cable tie and then cuts it. They are not very expensive either. Only use the dykes in confined spaces.

They cut cable ties if you buy the Snap pn you have more money than brains.Same people that care what other people think of what they drive.

Snap on is over priced junk, its not hard to find something with better value, have a look at how snap on scores in Project Farms videos. Its not good.

Really splitting hairs on this one. Much rather save the money than have the strap on ones
