Nothing wrong with OCD when it come to your tools. I by no means have high end tools, but I take pride in what I own and make sure its spotless before it goes back in the tool chest.

Same. I remember one time I yelled at my dad for putting a greasy wrench in my box and didnt put anything back right. I definitely deserved the backhand that I received for screaming at him. But I guess both of us learned our lesson that day because hes never put a dirty tool back ever again

I had a customer try to get me fired years ago as certified Harley Tech. Guy walked into shop and walked up to my box and stated going thru my large Snap-on box. I told him to get F away from my tools, him and owner came downstairs to "Talk" to me I just told him I can have my tools in the back of my Pickup in under 5min with fork truck and he could let the guy finish his own bike. Turned around and told customer "Your Call, sparky?". worked there four more years then drug-up

I treat my Harbor Freight tools the same as the few higher end tools. I may be a shade tree mechanic, but my tools are still an investment. It saves the money of taking my vehicle to a mechanic. I'm with ya on the cleanin. I dont like puttin mine away with finger prints, nevermind grease or oil. It cant get dirty unless its clean.

Hey clay, I know this is an old video, and you probably won’t see this but I think the reason I take such good care of my tools is because those tools are a reflection of my time... time you’ll never get back. You get paid for your time and in return with that money you buy tools to make you more money. I always think a person that respects and cares for their tools is someone who respects and cares about their time.

@@KoonTrucking So I was wiping down my toolbox last week, and i found quite a few paint splatters on the side, the workstation front and some drawers (my snapon box happens to be flat black). I was quite pissed off. The only guy that paints in the shop is my co-worker. And he does that after we are done for the day. His response was "I dont know how that got there." So needless to say i managed to get all the spots off, and i am looking at getting a toolbox cover from Snap-On.

Nice video! I work in a shop where I am the senior mechanic with 20 years. I have guys with less then 4 years of experience. These guys would work on a truck and leave spills on the shop floor, dirty tools, parts everywhere. They did one engine swap on a F250 and swapped parts and never washed or cleaned the intake or anything. My OCD went nuts and my manager and I had a big talk about talking pride in our work and keeping everything clean. Most of the problems is just being green and new. My guys at the end of the day would have piles of tools on their boxes and would frantically hurry up and put them away. I would tell them to wipe their tools down as they use them as they go. It takes extra time to clean but it’s with it. I replaced a radiator and used all new bolts and even pained them lol. I have had Snap on since day one. Every Snap on mechanic has OCD. Everyone else are usually not as clean. I am not being a snap on snob. I have known mechanics who do not have snap on and keep things clean also. But it’s rare. I think because you spend a lot of money on your tools for work. You care about keeping things clean. I always say this. Great mechanics keep their tools clean and work on cars on their days off. Their cars are clean and their house also. One tip I have for snap on guys is to get a Cover for their snap in box. My current Snap on box I almost cried when I came in on my day off and a coworker was grinding right in front of it. He embedded metal in the front. A lot of mechanics who don’t have snap on don’t care about other people’s stuff. I have been in my shop for 6 months. I have had to tell 2 guys to wipe my tools off when they are done. One guy used my snap on chair and left grease all over it. I told him I sit in it every day to change into my boots and use it often in the day. The guy got pissed and called my picky lol.

Being a Snap-On dealer, Hamilton knows the truth about tool boxes. I have a Blue-Point roll cart that is similar to the Snap-On one in this video but not as nice. I didn't like it because you have to take everything off of the top to get in the upper compartment, so I gave it to my wife who uses it for painting. She puts a small easel on the top and the tubes of paint in the drawers. So I wondered why would mechanics get a roll cart if they could just roll their KRL722 with nice work surface over to their job? The reason is they traded in their tool box for a huge KRL1023, which when full of tools is a pain to move. So they get a roll cart and live with its compromises. I have an old KRA-380 with a wooden board on top and I prefer that over my modern roll cart.

Personally I was raised to take care of my possessions however I was also raised to used what I had to get things done. I use my tools as intended but I also use them as practical tools such as using a bladed driver for slotted screws but also as a prying tool that being said I don't use it for actually heavy-duty prying I use it for you know I'm in a pain shot got to use something that's right they're sort of situation. When it comes to cleaning my tools I keep my tools as you put it about 80% clean for the screwdrivers and stuff with like a plastic handle I wipe those down with a tub of towel but for like a wrench or a ratchet I don't have any soft handle ratchets I can't stand those ratchets so I always get the are metal handle because then I can just take her shop rag and just wipe it down and if I need to do extra you some type of towels but I don't make some showroom perfect. I use them and take care of them.

I was a Bill one time way back when, but I changed my ways. It's too easy to toss an old blanket over a seat or use a fender apron, put on some nitrile gloves so you have clean hands in an instant when you need them, and it's too easy to give a tool a wipe down with kerosene or WD40 (one thing it's good for). Really dirty stuff gets a good soaking before wipedown. Why work hard when you can work smart? I enjoyed the banter fellas.

I made the mistake of getting grease in an interior. for a cleaner I would HIGHLY recommend the motocraft spot and stain cleaner.

This had to be one of the more entertaining videos I've seen with you and Hamilton. It had me laughing so much I couldn't help myself so I came back for round #2.

Mine sucks too. Haven’t caught him messing around with money yet but he doesn’t stock his truck and I’ve had to have him order almost everything I’ve needed so far.

@@dylanandersen9318 Just so you know, Snap On does not set the price a dealer sells at. Snap On only sets the price dealers buy at. Dealers are free to charge whatever price they want. I learned this while I was exploring the possibility of becoming a Snap On franchise owner myself. I even had a dealer advise me that sometimes selling over MSRP is warranted in some situations. That guy absolutely may be a dick, and it seems that in your case it was a mistake that cost him a customer. The guys I buy from give me a discount if I pay cash in full up front and charge me full MSRP if I put it on truck account. Every truck is different.

I have an ethos pro, bought maybe 3 years ago. Reads codes and you can also see some freeze frame data, or you can look at monitors, like various sensors. Think i paid like 1800 for it though. Still use it to this day though

Had a falling out with a guy when I let him work out of my truck for the day and we were working on a 1500kw generator just changing the belt and he tried using my 3/4 snap on wrench as a pry bar and stopped him and he tried telling me it was just a tool.
