The shallow broaching is actually a sign of a professional socket, thr bolt can still go up into the socket but doesn't let the nut go so deep that I wobbles and prevents a socket from making a square bite on the nut. Shallow broaching is considered faster to connect on the nut. My sk sockets, gear wrench are shallow broach

You didn't mention it that I noticed, but buying off of Tekton's website is better than using Amazon. Not only do they do free shipping on orders over $25, they ship the same day if you place your order before 3pm Eastern . In most of the contiguous 48 States, that will get your tools to you in 1 to 4 business days depending on where you are compared to Grand Rapids, MI. In addition, they will give you 10% credit towards another purchase. That credit can be held or used as you see fit when you place an order, so you can use it immediately or save up credits toward a bigger purchase and they will hold it for up to two years.

The reason the drive flats dont go all the way down inside the socket is so you can start the nut on a fastener using the socket without having the nut slide all the way down into the socket. It's great when you're under a vehicle and you cant reach a fastener to do it by hand. Most higher-end sockets have shallow broaching.

You save me from having to comment on the post. Much more desirable to have a shallow depth socket.

Thanks you two I didn’t think about that although I normally always start mine by hand to stop them from cross threading

Makes a deep worthless most of the time
@chriscalderin6677

@@FrogsGarage it is the excuse people make for to justify not having deep broached sockets! If tekton was not deep I would not have bought them! Most manufacturing for decades has switched to nuts with built in washers! You can shove a paper towel in a deep broach that I have done about once a year but if you need a deep broach and do not have it then what ?
@FrogsGarage
@FrogsGarage Месяц назад
@@chriscalderin6677 yea I’d prefer the deep broach myself for that reason cause nice when u need it. I always start my nuts by hand anyways and if it is in a spot I can’t get my hand I can just start it with a actual shallow socket on stud then finish it off with deep idk why I would need my deep socket to be shallow on inside lol 😂

Pros prefer a shallow broach..like on Snap-on and ICON.. the Tekton broach is too low to set a fastener for installation.. that's why they prefer them...fyi..DIY'ers are different Thank you for putting the ICON information in the video for single tool replacement..People seem to think you can't get singles from Harbor Freight...👍
@FrogsGarage

Yea the deep or shallow broach both have benefits and cons just the other day I was happy bout the Tekton cause it allowed me to go all the way down on a sensor without hitting the plug connector so it’s useful for that.

If you use a Snap On socket as an impact, it makes sense that it will crack before the others. Snap On sockets are about a 49 on the Rockwell Hardness scale. Tekton and Icon are about 46. The harder the steel, the more brittle it is. It won't take the vibrations as well. Using a tool for a purpose that it was not designed for can lead to false conclusions.
@FrogsGarage

that socket actually wasnt being used on a impact when it let go I know for sure because I got a nice busted knuckle for it when it did it. But thanks for the info on the Rockwell Hardness scale I did not know that.

There is nothing wrong with the Tekton sockets. They work well for DIYER’s, but they are a step or two below the ICON sockets IMHO. I have used them in a professional setting and they are just ok. A lot of people swear by them. I’ve just had different results. The ICON sockets have worked well for me. Ratchet’s that’s a different story. Snap on or matco all the way.

Idk how I feel bout the Icon Ratchets yet I got the soft grip thinking they would be nice but the extra bulk of the grip kinda is agrivating in tight spaces might have to get one with regular handle

Ok, i see the bigfer picture. My 2 cents: Snap on: Yes, they are very expensive. However, if you need a specialty tool or custom tools for a particular car, then that would be the best way to go. If snap on is too difficult to, then my suggestion is just called the corporation. Icon: If you are just doing simple jobs on the vehicle, then yeah, icon would be a better choice. Tekkton: It's a good brand. I think their best for median between icon and snapon. They will have all the tools you need and more.

I just found your channel. I would buy the Icon all day long and I believe its stronger the way the hex only goes so deep but the stud should go though the hole. And from what I've heard good luck getting a Snap-on dealer to warranty it if your not buying from him every week. Get yourself a set of Pittsburgh impacts you won't regret it. And you'll save your chromes Look up reviews on RU-vid people have had them for years with no issues I've had mine for about 8 years and of course lifetime warranty

I have a whole drawer full of snap on and Matco impact sockets to be honest I hardly ever use them I just slap the old chrome sockets on and if they crack I take and warranty them 🤣

You don't have to chase down snapon. Call the headquarters and they will warranty it for you. Very nice people to deal with

My most recent attempt ended with then giving me the number of a local dealer even though I stated I didn’t buy from him and would rather mail it in.

You found out why we nicknamed them "Snap-Off".. I've seen more broken Snap-Off tools than any other brand. Especially their sockets and electric tools. Their air hammers are a joke.
