I was driving on a back highway in Oklahoma and saw what I supposed was a snapping turtle at the edge of the road. Being a nice guy, I stopped to move it off of the road. It was about 10 inches in diameter and had triangular spikes around the outside of the shell. I reached down with both hands, with a plan to lift it with one hand on each side. That sucker jumped straight up 6 inches and spun 90 degrees trying for one of my hands. I left him alone.
I was on a fishing trip about 1 hour flight north of Kenora, Winnipeg, and saw a snapping turtle in one of the lakes we were fishing, It might have been 18 inches or so long, and very moss covered. I didn't think they made it that far north.....
