Can I please get your opinion I injured my wrist like this in boxing and they took me out in a cast for 6 months(longest I ever been out) right after it happened I went to physical therapy and it didnt help, now it's a year later and it still bothers me every day and every workout what should i do ? Please i need ur advice
Dr. David Geier hey Doc. This started when I played badminton. But it persisted for years and these days; my wrist gets triggered just from typing or playing video games.
hi! like many other folks on this thread, i injured my wrist boxing. I had a couple rounds of cortisone and ultimately was diagnosed with a TFCC tear, and had surgery in november of 2017. The ulnar side of my wrist and the repair seem to have healed nicely, but i have some persistent pain on the thumb side of my wrist, and constant popping when i push on my ulna bone. It doesn't seem like the ECU tendon, and there is no increase in pain when it cracks , but it's a loud snapping/popping. I had an xray a few months back and it did not show any fracture, and no arthritis. It did show, however, a possible scaphoid dissociation. I am at a loss on what to do, (tried PT for almost a year with little improvement) -- any thoughts? Thank you so much!
I just stumbled on your video. Just subscribed. Thank you. I commented below. I don’t have sports injuries but have connective tissue disease - hEDS. My hips, shoulders, knees and now my wrists are effected with partial dislocations. My PCP said it’s the tendons or ligament slipping away from where they should be. I’m so sad that now it’s my wrists.
Bro I have that problem on my left too! I shoot with my left and I'm inconsistent because my hand can't flow in one motion, in just snaps and breaks my shoot :(
I’ve actually had this issue for about 10 years in my right wrist. I always assumed it was because I’ve been a cellist for the better part of 20 years and I’m right hand dominant, so I never pursued medical care. Dumb on my part. Anytime I move my wrist at all, it sounds like I’m crinkling a plastic water bottle. Not usually painful, but if I’m doing something with repetitive motion, it becomes swollen and painful. Recently I’ve been dealing with a rapid onset of carpal tunnel in that hand and now I am looking at surgery for that as well as repairing the damage in my wrist from the years of ignoring the snapping. I’m looking forward to having normal function of my hand again!
THANK YOU! Finally a video that explains what i am feeling. My right wrist has been making a weird noise for months and sometimes i feel intense pain when i try to play games at a high sensitivity, this happened after i decided to try out high mouse sensitivity for a day and over worked my wrist and because of that one time my wrist has been in pain. High sensitivity for gaming isn't worth it on the long run I would rather have slow arm movements but keep my wrist healthy.
How long did it take for you to heal? I work with IT and grind CSGO for very long durations on high sensitivity and noticed my wrist started to hurt and crack. It's still been going over a year, and Ice and splits don't seem to have helped
You might need some good therapy I exercised it use the hand squeezer and heat on at least three times a day and keep it nice and wrapped it heals slow but it works
Idk when this happened but when i twist my left wrist it makes this cracky poppy sound where the ball thing is it hurts sometimes my other wrist feels bubbly inside like a bubbly pop when a crack it dont ask me y i described them like that
@@jtramal i recieved this injury 4 years ago. And its more of an annoyance than anything else. you have to prevent the tendon from "snapping" or "popping" out of place, long enough to give the subsheath time to heal on its own. So far, mines is a lot more stable and currently isnt snapping anymore.
Just surgery for this. Been in cast cast for 6 weeks above elbow. Then physio for 3-4 months. Horrible injury. Took a wrist shot playing hockey and it blew up. Something I done million times.
Thank you for the information. I have hEDS (hyper-mobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome) 50yrs old and with this connective tissue disease condition, the older I get, the more issues I have. I’ve felt with snapping hip and scapula since I was 7 years old. It’s really bad now. Last year, my knees started the dreaded issue. Now it’s my wrist and it is so painful. My PCP said as I get older more things will happen. I am left handed so my left wrist is the worst. Repetitive motion makes flares worse. I have been using my hands a lot for 2 months, helping our daughter make her wedding flowers. So now my wrists are snapping. The indentation in the top of my wrists are more predominant and swelling is worse. I am going to look into a wrist brace and try to get this calmed down as it is extremely painful.
I had this ever since I started playing tennis, which would now be 7-8 years ago, and I get it almost whenever I move my wrist from left to right, it doesnt really hurt but my wrist feels really weak also.
Hi.. I am an 18 year old drummer, from when I was little I got some wrist pains and inflimmation in my wrists. For the last couple of years it stopped and I did not experience this untill I started gyming, now my wrist pops, but when I warm up to drum it becomes less so. I dont know whether I should see a doctor. There is also no noticeable pain.
I'm not sure what caused the injuries but I know my wrist have been this way for as long as I can remember and I just thought it was fine. Up until now that I am an adult. I enjoy doing yoga but I have noticed a lot that due to my wrist being as weak as they are and how painful the snapping gets from using my wrist a lot when practicing yoga. It is a stubborn pain to deal with and leaves me behind on some of the things I could enjoy when performing physical activity.
Bro i had it since a long time now, maybe since i was 15 and today i am 26 i just learned about this, and i been quitting gym because it just bothers me a lot,and when i do a pushup i feel like jts going to crack and break, this condition is rare in itself
With me snapping occurs when i move my left wrist up and down, facing my direction. When it goes down it reaches a point where i feel and hear a small activating sound as if a button has been pressed, and when i move it back(up again) it gives a heavy DUCKK! sort of a sound. There is no pain but it has been happening for more than 7 months. What is this Doctor and how to fix this?? IN NEED OF HELP!!
@@tomgreerr I mean if it was basketball where you would need to flick your wrist it would be one thing, but for boxing you should be fine as long as you dont keep flicking your wrist or re injuring it.
I injured both my wrists boxing like 13 years ago, unfortunately I never knew what it was, it's very frustrating as I cannot lift anything over 20lbs underhand without my wrists snapping and giving out.
Over Over Damn! You injured both of them? I injured my left wrist by punching the wrong way. I fucked it up 3 years ago. I avoided surgery and just let it heal on its own
Yeah I tried teaching myself to box when I was like 16, I would bend my wrists when I'd throw hooks at full power on the heavy bag and wound up injuring them both after like a year. I don't think I gave myself much time to heal either and didn't go to a Dr., I was back at it within like 2 weeks but couldn't throw those types hooks anymore without pain. Fortunately I can still do things like hammer curls and throw hooks with proper form, but underhand I can't even lift a 25lb dumbbell. I wish they made some sort of lifting device which could take my wrists out of the equation during a lift. Before that I was curling like 60lbs with each arm.
A wrist widget is what you need for this look them up if you have a problem with this. My local chemist didn’t have any they only had wrist straps which doesn’t help with this type of injury so all I did was make my own with a cloth and cable ties 😅. Worked perfectly
Thank you. I’m going to search this now. I have hEDS, a connective tissue disease so new issues happen frequently. My hips, shoulders, knees all snap or partial dislocate. Now my wrists are in the same shape as other areas.
@@kennastanfill4667 thank you I’ve never heard of hEDS until now and I checked it out and looks like I’m in the same boat as you. Now I can understand a lot better what I’ve been going through
I got mine while riding a bike. I suddenly turned and then I felt that something snapped in my right wrist which is in my dominant arm. After that I got home, my wrist that was injured immediately become sore. At first, I thought there's just a pinched vein, but days have passed, I realized that there is something wrong within my wrist. It's already a month by now, and I thank you for this video. I've decided to get my surgery for my wrist, so that I can do the usual things that I do before without pain and irritation caused by snapping
@Charlie Hi, I went to my doctor and have me take an X-ray of my left arm, since no problems with the bones, he said it will take time to heal. It's been 2 months since I didn't feel any pain. But now(after 6 months) I felt little pain when I lift something heavy(10kls up).
I’ve had 3 surgeries on my left wrist for my tendon dislocated and cartilage pad torn. From having those surgeries on the same area my incision area is so boney it barely has muscle over the bones there. And I’m getting ready to have surgery again on my left wrist again but this time for tendinitis on my ulnar side I’m falling apart at age 35
My coach hates when he hears when im injured. He'll ask this question. "Did you go to the doctor." "What did your doctor say " If you didn't see a doctor. Than you're LYING"
I've had this for about 8 months, it hurts when its aggravated, but it pops all the time, I used to think it was a cyst because I've had one in the same place. I really hope I dont need surgery
Andrew, hey yea I have a cyst too on my left wrist and it snaps but it’s not painful, both my wrist sublux with the ecu but it doesn’t impact my daily life or working out, I’ve been reading a lot about this injury and usually surgery is only if it’s painful or limits movement. If it’s asymptomatic then it doesn’t require treatment. Also I was reading about an mlb player who actually ruptured his ecu tendon “ worst case scenario” and he said that after it ruptured it was the best it had ever felt. Nelson Cruz. He didn’t require surgery and is still actively playing
I cured my subluxation using conservative treatment. My orthopaedic surgeon told me I needed surgery but the literature does say immobalization will fix this issue unless you have the rare Type B subsheath tear. I insisted to be put in a long arm, munster cast (this enables elbow movement while restricting pronation and supination of the wrist). Your wrist position in the cast must be in full pronation, radial deviation and slight extension (it is very important to be in this position or else it won't work). Do this for atleast 6 weeks. My cast came off and my ecu tendon no long subluxated. My surgeon looked annoyed that I proved her wrong haha Your surgeon wants to do surgery. This is how they get paid the big bucks. Insist on doing the cast for atleast 6-8 weeks.
I have subluxation more in the middle of my wrist from the tendon connected to the index finger(I tested it by holding out my fingers for each one and noticed when it actually snapped), it snaps up and down when pointing at myself and really makes it worse whenever I play basketball(which is constant snapping), do you think casting could help fix this or maybe my case may be different?
@@MrIceDragon22 Try to find out the exact name of the tendon that is snapping and then search through Pubmed for the literature to see what the conservative treatment is. If it's a matter of a subsheath tear you may need to position your arm in a certain position and cast it in order for the tissue to reconnect so the scar tissue can generate. Try to get an appointment with an orthopaedic surgeon. Going to the emergency room was the fastest way for me to see one.
Can u diagnose me i have been in pain my left hand for 7 days now my wrist hurts like hell and a little further from my wrist is swelling alot doctors said is tendinitis i dont believe it also accompanied by cold palm
0:50 - Ecu's insertion is on the base of the 5th meta carpal. So it doesn't help extending your little finger as demonstrated by you. Ecu helps with ulnar abduction and with wrist extension (together with ECRL and ECRB). EDM provides little finger extension as shown by you.
I am still trying to find the answers to my wrist injury. Occurred in June 2018 not sports injury related. Been treating the pain on my own, finally sought out treatment. Went to a DO for neuromuscular skeletal manipulation, no bueno. Went to my orthopedic, " You have some minor ulnar impaction but dont think that would cause what youre describing. Possible TFCC tear. We can set you up for an MRI with contrast to see whats causing the pain. And I can shoot it with some cortisone." No bueno to cortisone, yes to MRI. MRI results "No TFCC tear, and I dont see anything that warrants surgery". Second opinion Dr, "MRI's arent always successful at showing TFCC tears. Only way to know what is going on is to stick a camera in there and see. And I can shoot it with some cortisone." Well ya see cortisone isnt solving the problem, its putting on a bandaid. I want the problem fixed. I was 100% convinced it was a TFCC tear. Greatly disappointed to find it was not, based on MRI. Now I come across this and having vEDS its quite likely thats what it is. Frustrating. Thanks for explaining about the ECU.
@@MrIceDragon22 No, it will fix the problem. The surgeon removes the diseased tissue and the incision brings blood flow and white blood cells which will build new collagen. Collagen doesn't grow back well with conservative care. Surgery is the best option for injuries that don't heal after 3-6 months.
My problem is that I always have to like bend my wrist and ankles every 5-20 seconds.. I don’t really know how to explain it but it’s like a feeling that I just have to stretch them or something and the feeling is getting worse.. can someone help me out??
I haven’t popped it intentionally for 2 days but sometimes when I move it just makes a huge pop sound and If I put my hand across my wrist in a certain position I can make it pop as much as i like 24/7 XD
Not an athlete; kitchen roast cook. LOT of lifting and wrist twisting, so much that I can feel my right wrist's cartilege/tendons/joints popping and bending throughout the day... Hope this video helps
Had surgery about 5 weeks ago for ECU sublex. Put two anchors and suture across the tendon. Carved the bone valley that the tendon sits in too. Injured it playing ice hockey and it's feeling great already. Still in a removable splint and almost ready for PT.
dkgreek this happened to me 3 years ago. I just left it alone. It healed, but not 100%. It will snap if I purposely try to snap it. But other then that, I can do normal shit like i did before
dkgreek I know exactly what you mean. That's pretty much what has been going on with mines. It seemed to heal somewhat one its one. If i used a wrist widget immediately after it happened, to keep the tendon secured, it would have likely healed on its own. Now I will never know. I took two prolotharapy shots two years ago. It actually helped tighten the ecu subsheath, but i never followed through the other additional shots, since the shoots where 300 bucks a pop!
Hi my wrist snaps and it feels like it builds up pressure and I have to snap it! Once I snap it the pressure is released until the cycle repeats itself all over again. I used to bowl on a team! My PCP doctor today said its Tendonitis and gave me a steroid shot, some anti inflammatory and a splint. Its been bothering me since October. This ECU snapping makes more sense to me then Tendonitis does! Thanks for the info!
This is the first time something has made sense, I thought mine was a cyst because I've had one before in the same hand, now I'm more worried then I was
@@Callieistappingin801 I know!!! But if you do think about it is weird, like we did come up with ways to pop it to take away the pain, I always get confused looks when I explain it
What's it called when you have a snapping tending over your thumb area on top of the wrist instead? I got it from powerlifting and it sucks :( going to see a doctor soon and cough up that money even though I really don't want to
my ecu snaps but only in the morning or when the wrist is cold. i don't play sports and i can't remember any kind of impact that might have caused it to snap. this has been happening for a couple of months, is there any way i can fix it without surgery, which is something i cannot afford? ):
alex garcia sounds like you are going to need surgery. I had this happen to my left wrist. I left mines to heal on its own. It healed for the most part, but it's not 100%. But I'm able to do just about all the stuff i used to do, but I still have to be a little careful
I’ve damaged my wrist which I believe is ulnar pain due to regularly playing tennis, my GP yesterday refused to give me a pain relief injection an just advised wearing braces, laying off the tennis which I have already been doing.
@@arthursimsa9005 yeah, I bought a wristwidget adjustable wrist band from Amazon £32 which I wear mostly when I play tennis and the wrist feels safe and secure 👍🏻
Hi, so I’m almost 12 and I’ve had this problem for years and my wrist pops very loudly when I move my wrist up and down. But I’m not sure if I did anything with a sport. So what should I do because it hurts every once in a while but my parents won’t listen.
I got a popping wrist on my thumb side, which I hear is rare playing tennis, although I would think more common as pronation with too tight a grip on serve or groundstrokes thumb side could be damaged easy, I assume the same consequences as you mentioned and this torn sheath will not show on a regular x ray right?
wow. this happened to me and i couldn't not figure out what it was. so weird. glad i came across this. the tendon shifts back and forth. i want to get back to playing. any one know any hand & wrist specialists in southern California that are recommended?? Dr. Geier do you have an office I can visit?
Derek Anderson I have scheduled to see a specialist on November 18th to hopefully figure it out. My physical therapist told me I need surgery for it so trying to get that done
I'm about to make this operation because I'm a professional musician and I'm 100% I need that but my relatives and friends all say it's very dangerous... But when I play on piano I feel lot of pain and I wanna do this operation. Please could someone comment who already had that surgery and after what happened with the wrist/hand? Is that working now the same like before the injury? Please comment. Thanks
i have this like more than 10 yeras tf... left wrist literally popos out and then back in especially when doing some weight lifting exercises that iclude forearms..

Please someone tell I have got these snapping in my wrist from push ups whenever I move them on certain angle it snaps and most of the time it's painless. I am 15 so please if someone could share how to treat it.
@@alyssalunsford9342 Thx for help It's actually painless I tried applying some ointment and to avoid my wrists and the pops and cracks have gradually reduced a bit.
Stupid question. If you think you snapped your tendon.would it be excruciatingly painful, and it will inflam so that you I ow for sure. Or will it be just a sore pain that you would. It know it snapped off?
I was misdiagnosed during my injury in October 2017. I was never immobilized. it took more than 9 months before my injury was recognized and I could access health care. (physiotherapy and occupational therapy) Here I am 1 year and 5 months later still waiting to meet an orthopedic surgeon. I see my general practitioner once a month since my injury and nothing progresses. I have a prescription for me to inject cortisone but I doubt that it can solve my problem. I need help, I need the pain to stop. I am no longer able to live like this.
both of my hands snap a lot when i clench my fist because the first couple months when i started boxing i would train without hand wraps, now i finally decided to research about it, i really don’t want to have surgery because i don’t wanna risk a long recovery.
Mine sounds similar to this but I'm confused. My wrist hurt for only 2 weeks when i hurt it but its been months and it still pops when I turn it after a point. It hurt when i first injured it (by arm wrestling) but now theres no pain whatsoever. I work out all the time and can hold full weight on my wrist with no problems. Sometimes it pops with much more intensity than other times, but the only reason i want it gone is because it just bothers me mentally. Agian I train all the time, I even train my wrists. The strangest part is my left wrist developed the same thing but it went away quickly and even comes back in short intervals. Do you know what this is?

I have snapping wrist on my thumb side. Not pinky side. It seems to fall out of place when I sleep. And crack back some point during the day. I got this from heavy bench press. I'm an american living in china and not sure how I can fix this problem.
I have this going on and I went to my orthopedic surgeon for my carpal tunnel and he said he thinks it’s a cubical bone that is catching on other bones. I’m a massage therapist and he thinks I’ve stretched the area inside to where it catches. He offered to do a X-ray but he said it wouldn’t show anything and he said if he was to do surgery it would make it worse. So I’m still in pain and now what am I to do?

I’m a massage therapist as well and both my wrists do this although one is more problematic pain wise…starting just recently. I do kinesio taping to support while doing massage and I’m going to try PRP injections. I’ve already done those on both thumbs & it helped. Not 100% because I’ve been doing this for 27 yrs. & work a lot of hours still…but much better than it was. Unfortunately it’s not covered by insurance but shouldn’t be more than $300-$500. Good luck! Hope you find some relief soon! 👍🏻
when I go down to do a handstand I have a popping sensation on the top of my wrist, it seems to slide towards my fingers. this happens when I face it flat (palms to the ground) on the ground for a handstand or wrist warms ups, I don't know what to do and I need my wrist to okay as I'm trying to train to be come a gymnast I also notice that I think my tendons rub over my bones when I rotate my wrist clockwise and counter clockwise
