The Ludwig Carl Palmer signature vs the UDrum carbon fiber. These two instruments are at opposite ends of the scales, but both are extraordinary values.
I have the Ludwig Venus Carl Palmer Signature snare drum. Picked it up at a Carl Palmer ELP Legacy concert in Buffalo, NY in 2019. At the 'meet and greet' after the show Carl signed the batter head and posed with a photo with me holding the drum. He gave me tuning tips and advised to swap out the OEM batter head for a Remo Emperor head and swap the OEM snare attachment cords for tape type. The Carl Palmer Signature snare drums shipped with Carl Palmer's signature on the inside shell tag. Really great drum it has far greater tuning range than it's shallow depth would indicate. And yes it is a beautiful appearing drum. One of my favorite snare drums in my collection.
I bought the Carl Palmer because I thought it looked great but I was surprised to find out that it really sounds and plays great despite it being a rolled welded shell! Oh and Carl Palmer's signature is cool too!
I have the Ludwig Venus Carl Palmer Signature snare drum. Sounds great at any tuning (I prefer med/high or high) and easily cuts through the mix if/when you need to. Yes It's made in Taiwan, but is a really well made solid snare drum. Plus it's signed by Carl. You can't beat that.
