Snatam Kaur - Gobinday - Joy [Official Music Video] 

If you are like me, chanting on a mountain top, in a forest, or by the ocean is easy and natural, yet, chanting in the city may be less so. Yet, every time I have chanted in a city whether silently or out loud it’s been an incredible practice that has enabled me to open up to the energy of the universe in a totally powerful way. I find that if I work the mantra into my interior space through chanting it either out loud or silently with the breath, miracles can happen.
I feel it’s so important to share this experience with people, since so many of us live in cities, and/or are living our day to day lives not knowing that miracles, divine energy, joy and vibrancy are within reach no matter where we are, or what is happening.
We had one day to create this music video. We showed up on the streets of downtown Los Angeles in the jewelry district in the morning, and we finished as the sun set. Here is the story that I hoped to convey.

As the story of the Gobinday-Joy music video opens, I am in a busy mind, feeling frustrated, lost, and disconnected. The city itself reflects this internal process. I integrate the Gobinday mantra and it acts as a tool to cleanse my inner space as I chant it and feel it with every step and breath, even amidst my personal struggle.
The chanting of the mantra is working with my energy, and helps me to continually go within until the vibratory frequency of the interior space becomes strong enough that the mantra is stabilized within, even amidst the noise of my environment. This is when I come to the bus stop, and in the stabilized interior state, I take a seat.
True stillness occurs, my mind finds quiet, and it’s a magic point, because it can only come from the Grace of the One; it is a gift. As I go within, the 10th gate opens which anatomically is at the top of the head. The yogis and sages equate the opening of the 10th gate to the awakening to the flow of the universe. Now I can see and feel the Divine, I am fully energized from within and I can engage with the Divine through the world itself.
Where I was perhaps out of touch or out of sync before with a busy mind, now there is a magic and a rhythm once my mind is quiet, as my balanced and awakened interior space can now dance with the exterior, feel the flow, see the Divine in all, and connect with people and my environments in a harmonious way. Where there was pain, now there is joy. Where there was fear, now there is courage. The mantra is fully integrated into my being and I am floating on its wings and feeling the sacredness of life.

My gratitude to Ron Hamad for receiving my incredibly personal story with mantra and how I utilize it in day to day life, and finding a way for my story to be conveyed in the streets of downtown Los Angeles. I felt all at once that he could see and relate to my inner story while at the same time masterfully setting the scenes, and finding the natural beauty of city life.
