This remains my all time favourite game. And was an amazing Sega CD event - with kudos as well to Eternal Champions CD. Thanks for bringing me back down memory lane!
I really like and enjoy your style of reviewing games. I have never played this game but have seen and heard a lot about it through different RU-vid reviewers and after seeing this retrospective of it I think I may have to give it a go some time.
I remember playing this game when I was young, and I didn't really like it, but after watching this video, you're making me appreciate it even more, looks like I'm gonna play it again..
Love this. Played this game with a friend via emulating across the country. We had so much fun that we downloaded the Saturn Policenauts and enjoyed it just as much
it's here! and it's Great! Looking forward to your next part. It's a fantastically cinematic title. I've, unfortunately, only played emulated versions of snatcher. This needs to be made "available" to gamers today.
This video went so quickly my man. So intresting, and nice commentary, you've got the perfect tone for it haha. Good job, really looking forward to more!
This has been my all-time favorite game since 1995 and I've been patiently awaiting a sequel ever since. The Last of Us and Beyond: Two Souls are right behind this.
i respect kojima's work on snatcher, but *policenauts* is what really got me drawned into this kind of venture, the story, the pacing, gaming etc all feels right imo
Having played this in '94 as a young 14 year old just get into Anime and cyberpunk heavily, I have to say that If anyone watching this wants to really enjoy Snatcher (to the fullest) they shouldn't watch the beginning. Even though it's not a spoiler that kills the game, the beginning has really good pacing and instantly immerses you in the story.
+iLO80 Lucky you I heard about this game in 2008 I really wanted which I did at the time I started collecting NES SNES & Genesis games again. I also got a Sega CD to play The Terminator. I did get Snatcher in Christmas of 08 cause a friend of my Mom's got on Amazon. It became probably my favorite game ever made.
I may be in the minority, but I always thought the Metal Gear series was Kojima's least interesting work. I've always preferred Policenauts, Snatcher, & and Zone of the Enders games.
Hey man please do a retrospective of Policenauts, now that KojiPro's new mascot Ludens has been revealed, it seems that Policenauts may be a significant influence to whatever new game Kojima is planning to make next.
One thing i'm not understanding about this video, when I played snatcher, I only had to hit the "draw gun" button once, I didn't have to keep it held down the whole time to shoot.
Yeah, I'm not sure what's up with that. I just played it again and when I release the button, my gun goes away. My controller is the same one I had since I was a kid, so maybe it's more of an issue with it sticking? I don't know. Someone else brought it up a little while ago too. Hope that one bit doesn't take away from the video too much.
You're right! Snatcher got a successor in Policenaughts for the Saturn....but never a sequel or remake that it clearly deserves. There's a fan project translating the SDSnatcher game, and the radio drama was fan-subbed...but still, gotta get some new Snatcher stuff! :D
I'm glad you've decided to pick it back up! do you still have your childhood copy? Cuz this is one expensive game. The disc alone, no case, is worth a good bit o' coin. I hope you'll play it again, console or otherwise, and hopefully enjoy it!
Fantastic video! I did a live playthrough on my twitch channel recently, and I've had the Sega CD version since it came out. One correction. The shooting sequences are very do-able with a controller. You need to draw your gun with "A" once and then fire with "C". There''s no need to hold one button down while firing with the other button.
Ahh, Snatcher, such a shame how expensive this game has become. I remember seeing this game in stores, probably the rental store I went to as a kid. I never tried it though. Looking back on it now, I regret not giving it a chance.
I don't remember how I found you, but I'm really glad I follow you now, for stuff like this. Can't wait for Part 2. Also, as a fellow Kojima fan, I wanted to ask if you were aware that there was a really good English patch for Policenauts out? I played it start to finish and loved it, though I can see why it didn't come here (you can grope the breasts of nearly every woman in that game, including Meryl from MGS.)
There’s a joke going around these days that Konami doesn’t like money and hates their fans. I think the fact that they’ve never released this game on mobile devices is as strong piece of evidence in favor of that theory
10:08 You don't need to hold down any buttons to aim. You press the Draw button(default A) once to enable the aim mode and then you just move the d pad and press the shoot button(default C).
Thanks! I mentioned it a long time ago in response to another comment I think, or maybe it was on Twitter, but this actually turned out to be an issue with my controller, I think!
Thank you friend. I am aware of the Policenauts patch, but I've never played, as I never tried Saturn emulation or patching game discs/the Saturn console as I don't own either or...but I really need to try again. I've only heard great things about it, and I would love to finally play the spiritual successor to Snatcher!
I like the video but there was one part that I found problematic, when you are talking about the gun battles you talk about needing to hold the draw gun button before pressing fire, you only need to tap it at the beginning of the battle, not hold it down.
I do hope that didn't take too much away from these videos for you! A few people have brought that up. I may emulate the game and try to recreate it. My Genesis controller may be sticking, possibly, and needs held? I'm not sure. But mine makes me hold it or the aiming goes away. The first time I played the game I died in the last robot battle 10 times because of it...so It is very possible my controller is junk haha! Thanks for watching!
