I got Snatcher for the Sega CD when it came out in 1994. I was 14 years old and it was the most epic game I had ever played. It was the first time a game really got to me emotionally. The story was great, I loved the music for the opening and end credits. I wish they would rerelease it, it would sell like crazy. Thanks for doing this retrospective. It brought back a lot of memories.
I enjoyed these two parts immensely. Even had a computer blue screen at the most perfect of timings ever; "We hope that you don't make any foolish decisions, Professor!" *BLUESCREEN!!*
Snatcher really is something else. It is my all time favourite game. I was still fairly young when it came out, and how great this game was made me go on a quest to try and find something better... because up to that point, there was always something bigger and better to play... It never happened. I could never find a game I enjoyed and felt so immersed in. Like you, I've just never felt as attached to any other characters in any other game. Really great to watch this and see someone else's experiences with it.
I've never wanted to play a game as much as I want to play Snatcher after watching your videos. Thank you for all the effort and hard work you put into these two videos. I look forward to more, because you sir have a fan for life.
SDATCHER is great! There was a point in time back when I was doing radio I wanted to cast and produce an english version. But that would involve a wade through a legal pool I wasn't willing to swim in. It's great though! Same with SD-Snatcher, the alternate rpg version!
WOW! That was great Duke! I am actually doing a game with a cyberpunk theme and now I'm tempted to use gameplay elements from Snatcher as a thankyou. Thanks Duke!
I have watched both of these videos. Numerous times I wish I had a way of playing this game. The story the voice acting the characters I'm in love with this universe. I wanna be part of it so bad and experience all of it.
Having watched the first video, I've decided I can't watch this one. It's your own fault. You made me want to play snatcher. Gave the video a 👍 anyway and subscribed but... I guess I'll be watching this video sometime in the future. Thanks alot, _Duke_ 😧 (😉)
I disagree on Random. There were definitely clues throughout the game that he wasn't human. The first of which being that he was able to kill Freddy Neilson's snatcher with one perfect shot to the head. There's a discussion between Gillian and Harry about how a regular ol' ray gun wouldn't be powerful enough to hurt a snatcher unless it was modified to have a more focused shot, but then that causes the ray to be extremely narrow, requiring incredible aim to actually hit your target. This is what tipped me off, seeing as a logical explanation would be that a targeting computer made the possibility of missing nonexistent. The dead giveaway, however was when Chin Shu Oh survived the explosion at Queen's Hospital, and quite easily, I might add. Since we didn't see Random die, he could have just as easily gotten out as well. Seeing the metal under his skin did not come as a surprise to me at all.
These series you've made are amazingly done. Your narration is superb and you explain the story very understandable. Thank you very mcuh for your effort!
One of my favorite Hideo Kojima games, Harry's death always gets me, it hits hard. The story is always good, I have beaten this game multiple times. Great two parter retrospective 👍
Quite an interesting game. Really cinematic, makes me want to play it sometime. I think a sequel should come around someday. Good job on this retrospective man.
It may have been an effort to get Jamie to cooperate with him; he extended the offer to Gillian as well. Or maybe Gillian insisted as well. But Elijah would have had a much easier time if he would have just killed Gillian by opening his pod and strangling him or something.
Great video! I played Snatcher a while back and just loved every moment of it. It got me so hooked in fact that I wanted to play more games similiar to it. It actually got me into another series that is just as amazing: The zero escape series. I recommend you try it out.
VERY much enjoyed my friend, great set of videos, loved the mention of "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep", great book and very much contains a lot of parallels for this game. If I can't play this game, it's good I can watch this haha
Kojima Team, even back when they were in full production of the MGS series with Kojima, was asked constantly to port/remake this game (and Policenauts). They refused. The real cause why was unknown but the official response was “we already made those games, we want to make new games”
Great retrospective. There was in 1996 for Windows 9x PCs a Blade Runner Adventure game (much as snatcher and sierra games), 9 or 11 diferent endings, random character generated by each playthroug (of who is a replicant or not) and the story is right on the same time as the movie story. I realy sujest you to take a look and try any snatcher fan (as i am) love that game as well.
Yep I have it, and it's really good but it will only run proper on a windows 98se machine, because some of the shooting sections will not work on any OS that is newer, at least I've never been able to make it work. I will say it's one of my favorite games of all time, despite the technical issues of getting it too run.
1300l Thanks I will try that, but I'm also in the process of building a retro Windows 98SE/XP dual boot system that will never go online to run older games, and software.
Excellent retrospective, I really enjoyed watching. If you ask me, a Snatcher sequel would be nice, but if there was going to be one, Kojima would have made it instead of Policenauts, which is an excellent game in it's own right.
+Gabe Mewell I need to play Policenauts again. Been a while, and now the Saturn translation patch is out...... thanks for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Great video! Love your style of informative presentation - you can tell how passionate you are about games! As a metal gear fan, I'd be really interested in seeing you do a similar video on policenauts, if it's something you'd consider? Thanks for the great vid!
I love Policenauts! If I had the time to focus on this channel again I'd love to make a video on it, but I fear I don't have a lot of unique things to say about that haven't been said before...but it is a blast, and shocking twists and turns. Wish we had an english VA version to go with the excellent translation patches!
There was a game made similar to Snatcher called Policenauts which only saw a Japan release, but an english patch has been released. Sadly though, no sequel to Snatcher itself. I wanna know what happens to Gillian in Moscow! I think the original MSX version in Japan ended when around the Harry scene, and the Super Deformed Snatcher offshoot and other revisions in Japan included the third Act in the church with Elijah.
Konami would make a ton of money if they rereleased this game for mobile devices. However that would mean they would be making happy customers and we all know that Konami can’t allow that these days
You neglected to mention that "Random Hajile" is "Elijah Modnar" spelled backwards. Nonetheless, this is a fantastic retrospective for a game that I sadly never got to play myself. I'm definitely in the mood to fire up the fan-translated Policenauts now, though ;D
I just noticed something. Look at what happens to Lisa and Cunningham when you "junk" them. Notice how the artificial skin around the skull is completely destroyed. Compare that to when Randam/Random kills Freddy. Don't know if there's any significance to it, but I just happened to notice it. Oh, and your performance in the Junker's Eye shooting range determines the difficulty. It never mentions that, however. In other words, you want to do horribly on the shooting range. It makes a hell of a difference in those final shooting sequences.
This is a fantastic game but, for me, I think I preferred Policenauts over snatcher. I played both within the last few years and I always see Policenauts as a tweaked version of Snatcher. Still, both great games, certainly don't get enough of these games nowadays.
Also I really love the music and vibe of this game. I only think the Japanese can make a game with this vibe. U just don’t get this style anymore in modern games and it’s sad
have u checked out SDATCHER? the official radiodrama directed by Kojima, its a prequel to snatcher and tells the story of jean jack gibson:) its in japanese but a translated video is on youtube:) who knows, maybe a sequel isn´t that far away anyway?:=)
Does anyone have an issue when it reaches 29:37 and YT freezes? I can't even jump past it so I can't see the last of the video. Its like someone took a really good book and ripped out the last chapter .
+james42519 thanks for your comment. The goal of this old video was to show more interest, not spoil everything; gotta have some stuff for the players!
