Lmfao dude they were a side project. Calm down. Chris Corner went onto his solo (IAMX) project, and wanted to remain "underground" , which he put out some amazing music under IAMX
i thought Chris's vocals were pretty awesome on Splinter. Also, there was hundreds of trip hop bands around at the time with female voclists so can understand the decision.
Yes, she made the group Chris is talented, but she gave them that edgy slightly wounded sound creating a wave of empathy and emotion with the music that’s never been there since.
Chris Corner (on the guitar on the video) was originally the singer but the band manager imposed Kelli Ali as singer (even she doesn't wanted to join the group originally and offered her voice freely). Chris was so pissed and depressed he started to hate Kelli for that. It was not her fault but more because of the manager. Chris and the rest of the band kick out Kelli rudely on the second album. The 2nd album didn't was a success as the 1st was and the 3rd was a flop.
Foolish move. He should have accepted that they had a good thing and done a solo project for his own stuff if he felt like he needed to express himself as well. They were making great music with her. But he did come into his own with IamX.
Sort of like Blondie and No Doubt in that the songs were written by the other members of the group and Kelli was a hired gun, but when they got big they got jealous maybe and dumped her... rookie move!
For all of you whining... Get your facts right. Lmfao they were a side project, nothing more. Calm down. Chris Corner went onto his solo (IAMX) project, and wanted to remain "underground" , which he put out some amazing music under IAMX
Even if she remained in band, trip-hop was pretty much finished in the end of 90's. Who knows how she fit in indie-rock. But for this one album it was a perfect synergy.
They kicked her out of the band…. Huge mistake as they never really put out anything close to the tracks with her singing… I’m guessing ego stood in the way
