I was drenched in Zeppelin. Tool. Rush. King Crimson. Then this album came out. Had zero in common with anything I was listening to or playing in any of the bands I was in. It literally knocked me over. Kelli and that who atmospheric trip hop thing just entranced me from the first listen. Such a talent. And unfortunately... a wasted opportunity for them.
Dude that's almost the exact same story for me.... I was listening to the same stuff and even some metal type stuff and a friend of mine left this CD in my car and I was hooked to the entire album and even to this day it's one of my favorite albums.... pretty cool to hear somebody with almost the exact same story LOL
Same fuckin thing, except I just discovered them about a month ago. I think Tool just does something to the brain, makes you more open to new experiences.
She did solo stuff. Rocking Horse was a good album . The Kiss was a great song. Sunshine in The Rain was popular trance . The Ghost Driver never got finished, and That was it...
Unattainable angst.......Soul Stealing seductress. Classy cool.turbulent tapestry. Reading Burroughs. Percocet kissed with vodka....Lost loathing. Thanks for the ashes on my docs.Farwell to the 90s.
Yes Kelli is definitely Beautiful/Hot/etc.... "not that there's Anything wrong with it"..... I've seen fan comments on various Sneaker Pimps songs talking about hearing consistent rumor more than once that Kelli is Transwoman/Ladyboy👍❤
KROQ 'almost' acoustic Christmas. I forget who else was on this bill, but this act was hard-to-follow. I hope they reunite with Kelli, I can't think of another trip-hop group that works this well, live. Thank you, for reminding us, PJ.
according to wiki night 1 was: Jane's Addiction, No Doubt, Scott Weiland, Sarah McLachlan, Beck, Matchbox Twenty, Rancid, Fiona Apple, Smash Mouth, Blink-182, Sneaker Pimps, Chumbawamba
Kelli Ali (nee Dayton) did not write any of the songs for the Sneaker Pimps. She was brought in as vocalist well after the entire album was written, reduced to demo and recording contract was signed. Not putting her down in any way. Just keeping the record straight. She was fabulous in her front role, better than any of the guys have ever been at lead vocals. Chris Corner is the principal genius behind this band and writes and sings all vocals to this day. Liam Howe is often a co-writer and does all the keys/electronics.
@@stevengottlieb3449 She wasn't allowed to contribute to any of the album songs' lyrics and is unfortunately not credited. The agreement the guys had with her was for her to do the b-sides on the first album. Pretty stupid to not do another album with her with more contribution and shared credits.
What a shame what happened to them but like all the good bands time takes its toll and life happens. I still enjoy hearing them they were a really good band.
I saw them the day before in San Jose for KOME's Almost Acoustic Christmas. The setlist was similarly very short which I thought at the time was due to the fact that the band was being disrespected by the audience. If I am remembering correctly, the band threatened several times to leave the stage since the audience was throwing crap at them.
The 8th Annual KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas. December 5 & 6, 1997. Universal Amphitheatre. Fiona Apple, The Aquabats!, Beck, Blink-182, David Bowie (Official), Chumbawamba, Everclear, Green Day, Jane's Addiction, Live, Matchbox Twenty, Sarah McLachlan, No Doubt, Portishead, Rancid, Save Ferris, SmashMouth, Sneaker Pimps, Sugar Ray, 311, and Third Eye Blind.
@@falcodarkzz If popularity is the only barometer of good music then i feel sorry for you) They were popular because the trip hop and downtempo were at it's peak. But they moved on and trip hop wasn't cool anymore. doesn't matter - With or without this girl. It would've been the same. And if she's so great where is she? At least Chris has IAMX and lots of fans still.
This was the same time they played in San Jose at a radio concert and the crowd booed them off stage. It really sucked and they didn't finish one song.
I just recently came across this band...now I can't get enuf of them. Her voice is hypnotic as her looks are...beautiful. Can anyone tell me the name of that opening track please ❤😊
Some false info in the comments. Becoming X was a great album and Kelli Alis vocals were brilliant on it, but she didn't write the songs Liam Howe and Chris Corner did (with lyrics also by Ian Pickering). They produced pretty much the whole album and Chris sang on the demos and then decided that a female vocal would work better. After lots of touring and burnout they returned to the write a follow up and Chris wanted to sing the songs he had written this time round. They were producing together as Line Of Flight before Sneaker Pimps. The follow up album Splinter was (at least in my opinion) a great record just more of a band record whereas Becoming X was definitely a more computer heavy production. Her vocals certainly wouldn't have suited Splinter IMHO.
I've been on a Sneaker Pimps feast just recently, and it's a real shame the narrative that is spun as it sheds a really bad light on the creative entity as a whole. I'm glad to see both Chris and Kelly are still creating music and video, let's hope for a collab in the future.
@@gordonaliasme1104 plenty of 1/2 two hit wonders around in that era due to how high the bar was at the time. Who knows if they'd even continue being successful with Kelly.
True, but she was (and is) a charismatic front woman. I bought a Pukkelpop ticket just to see them live. And judging from a stack of Kelly Ali albums, she could write too. So ousting her still is a tragedy in my humble opinion. As is the demise of the whole triphop scene (and the (neo)-soul scene). Creativity at it's best.
I saw that movie just because of the music. And the Volvo C90 involved. But it was okay. Especially since I was the only one in the theater. Payed for 2 tickets. 😂
