Loved this episode! Reminded me of the kind of episodes you guys used to do back in the day, which actually got me hooked. Kudos! Also, Varun was so high 😂 Whenever he spoke, everything went into slooowww moooo. And KT my man. You're a smart guy. Very aware. Very compassionate too. Kautuk disappointed me with his Siberia remark today. Losing low lying areas isn't the only drawback of climate change! He needs some more reading up probably.

Okay this episode was your best, I know you didn't get many views on this but damn this was good. Also i hope you see this comment because if you don't it means absolutely nothing. I really want you to get more subs but the thing is that if you do I'm scared that this podcast will stop and SNG will become mainstream and become as silly as AIB. Ive seen you guys since Karan Talwar featured on the original soundcloud podcast of AIB (episode 2). So I'm proud of you guys. Please make more serious podcasts because the new generation needs this.

Artificial Intelligence is a cause of concern. But it is the data that we give the system that powers the AI revolution. We should be worrying about what the companies do with data and then have legislation on how data can be used. If we dont regulate that we may have black mirror very soon

Just to clarify, Arya Bhat was not a mathematician. He was an Astronomer. He didn't invent zero. People say that Baraha Mihira or Bhaskaracharya invented zero. But that's not true too. Nobody invented zero. It's just that Indian mathematicians used to calculate big numbers using a concept of Zero when the other civilizations couldn't even think about. It's similar to what we write today like 10^x. So they created a way of expressing big numbers.

Water shortage problem can be overcome with technology. Also, the human population seems huge but earth is a big planet and we occupy a very small area of it. Problem is we're densely populated in those areas and that creates resource scarcity. I hope these two shouldn't be problems in the long run.

I am repulsed by the incompetence and ignorance the people of India have today that they cannot even google and find out the facts. The youth today like the ones in the video who shoot off their mouths without properly researching and who always yearn to demean India in front of the west show their deeply ingrained inferiority complex which is so serious that they may require shrinks to cure it. I am a PhD studying in the US and it is quite widely accepted that ancient and medieval Indians alike are one of the biggest contributors to the field of mathematics. Check out the website of story of mathematics (whose contributors I know personally) or fab-pedigree's 100 greatest mathematicians in history. You will see that the lists are rife with Indian mathematicians. ---to be continued---
@chbilly4465
@chbilly4465 6 лет назад
As a matter of fact, Aryabhatta was never ever associated with the invention of zero. I don't know why India's youth is so misinformed today about such basic facts. Up until recent times, it was widely accepted that Brahmagupta was the first to completely define the concept of zero with corollaries like any number added to zero is the same number; zero subtracted from any number gives the same number and so on in his book Brahmasphutasiddhanta. This was widely considered the first work where zero was treated as a number in its own right and it is not just a way of writing zero as the authors of the video erroneously pointed out which is ludicrous. Also, it was long thought that Brahmagupta was not in fact the first who theorized and defined zero but it came from Bhaskara I a few centuries earlier to him. That doubt became true when recently the Bhakshali manuscript was discovered where the definition of zero was seen to be made 500 years earlier than it was previously thought. And if you ask what is so important about zero, if you know basic math you will recognize that we can do calculations so fast now because of the techniques that the decimal place value system provides. It is impossible to have place value system without zero and Indians are the first who perfected the place value system. That is the reason why when the rest of the world religions were talking about at the most 100s or 1000s of years, we were talking about billions and trillions of years in our scriptures mainly because we could count that high numbers thanks to our inventions of zero and place value system. If you don't know such things, you better do at least a five minute google search to be sure of what you are talking about. Otherwise you will look like giant fools in front of thousands of people watching the video. ---to be continued---
@chbilly4465
@chbilly4465 6 лет назад
To limit the mathematical contributions of Indians to the inventions of zero and place value system is another ludicrous thing. The first use of trigonometry in full detail was found in Indian text Surya Siddhanta. The first mention of Pythagoras theorem and Pythagorean triplets ever in history of the world was in Shathapatha Brahmana text from India. So Pythagoras did not invent the theorem contrary to what is widely thought of. The value of pi upto a high number of decimal places, the time of day, the moon's revolution time, moon's distance from earth, the sun's revolution time, sun's distance from earth and earth's diameter (yes, earth was known by Indians to be sphere long before medieval Europeans and by Greeks even long before medieval Europeans) were mentioned to surprisingly accurate degrees in Aryabhatta's works. Most of the middle eastern Mathematicians like Al Khawarizmi who is today credited as father of Algebra clearly mentioned Aryabhatta and other Indian mathematicians as his inspirations in his works. The icing of the cake is that the infinite series expressions for pi and trigonometric functions was presented by Madhava of Sangamagrama from Kerala school of mathematics two hundred years before calculus was invented by Newton and Leibniz!! It is also postulated among famous mathematicians that Newton and Leibniz probably invented calculus only with the help of Madhava's work on infinite series which was supposedly carried to them by Jesuit missionaries from Kerala to Europe!! This is not conspiracy theory. Mathematicians actually believe this today considering the amount of knowledge exchange that happened between Kerala and Europe in those times based on solid evidence. Do you want a bigger invention than Calculus????!!!! Today, all the Maclaurin's and Taylor's infinite series expansions for trigonometric functions are officially renamed as Madhava series. So, the world has acknowledged and accepted the contributions of Indians but Indian youth itself is in dark ages as seen in the commentary by people in the video. Even recent Indian mathematicians like Srinivasa Ramanujan have made such mighty contributions to the field of number theory that his work is now used to explain physics of black holes!!! Srinivasa Ramanujan is widely considered as the most brilliant mathematician of the 20th century by almost all famous mathematicians today and there si a separate branch of mathematics today dedicated to prove Ramanujan's theories. This branch is so famous that there are at least a few fields medalists who were awarded only because they proved one of Ramanujan's 3000 odd results which he stated without proof!! To see that the famous mathematicians around the world respect Indians so much for their contributions but Indian youth itself assumes that Indians were nothing but religious fools gives me a lot of pain. Our past was glorious but seeing you guys, I can confirm that our future is bleak. :-(

Ch Billy, Bro! You can't completely blame the youth for being ignorant about these things.... There are a lot of fake facts and theories on the internet and such sources greatly outnumber the true & verified sources....so obviously being so large in number, such fake sources have a wider impact radius and on top of that, all these uneducated politicians making absurd and illogical statements and many religious leaders being apprehended for such sinful crimes, it has become difficult for us to diffrentiate between unambiguous truth and pure hoax. I appreciate that you are doing your part in keeping people informed. Keep it up👍

3) Crypto currency: Now this is where you all have really sparkled and come out blazing with your incredible pearls of wisdom. At 23:52, we have this beautiful gem: " countries will want a linked currency because dude it just makes sense ..with the internet bringing everyone close". Firstly wtf is a "linked currency' ? Secondly, if you are referring to a crypto currency here, no one wants it because the internet has brought people closer and you want to send money to someone quickly. We already have paypal for that. Crypto currencies are de-centralised and completely de-regulated which is one of the reasons why countries/governments are very afraid of embracing them. Crypto currencies are still evolving and will people/countries/governments will react depending on the way they shape up. Even if crypto-currency as a concept doesn't work in future, it's underpinning infrastructure called "block chain" might have a lot of applications and ofcourse risks. Guys, you have a huge following and most of your audience is fairly young. Please make sure you understand these subjects before you critique/pass judgement on them. Lastly, "because dude it just makes sense " is hardly a good argument for any scientific/ techonological theory. If you don't have a good argument to support something , don't support it. Peace.

I normally enjoy your podcasts, but you guys have clearly tanked rock bottom on this one. (The previous rockbottom was the one with Jose Covavco but that was because I had very high expectations ). Guys read up a little before you discuss stuff like AI, Aryabhata, concept of zero. Some of the big howlers in this episode: 1) AI : You are confusing a lot AI seen in science fiction movies with the state of the AI today. Yes AI is increasing becoming more and more "intelligent", but we are way too far from a "self aware" AI. The idea of "self awareness" or and AI with consciousness is definitely being worked upon, but we are no where close to it as we still don't understand consciousness compeletely .. or rather enough to define it in a mathematical model. AI today is purely mathematics on steroids. It is incredibly powerful but no where close to being self aware. Elon Musk's concern is real .. but not real enough as of today. What is more relevant today is how AI will displace jobs and might entirely annihilate certain work sectors. But then again if you had read up a bit , you would have known this. more to come ...

Kautuk's remark on currency and the concept of belief was quite a fresh take! So was the discussion on impact of globalization! Varun, please ask a friend in the field of AI to explain the "facebook AI developing its own language" thing. What it was, was nothing more than a minor fuck up on the part of the people working on it. You end up with random shit results all the time, especially while working with unsupervised learning and reinforcement learning(which is what was used in this case) if you don't provide clear instructions and rewards to your AI. The article that went around was definitely fake news

Point to think about: do you realize that standard porn videos tend to feature white ppl only and then porn videos that involve ppl from other races are separate categories of porn (BBC, Ebony, Latinos etc etc). Therefore, porn plays a HUGE role in fetishizing races around the world, while still somehow keeping "white" as the norm.

It was not just Ashoka, but the whole ancient history was discovered at that time. Britishers discovered Sanchi stupa and barhut stupa etc and came to know of the Mauryan empire. Even the script Brahmin was deciphered by Sir James Prinsep. The aryabhatta claim is based on the concept of nullity. The Buddhist philosophy of nibbana or Salvation that is escaping the world in nullity is what it was based on. The same principle is basis of various hinduism schools too. The other thing is that in the Indian renaissance, use of history was to give a self confidence to a dejected population. But this was based on some real facts. For example, highlighting Akbar's sulh-i-kul or Ashoka's dhamma can be a good way to understand secularism in India. History is a potent tool to teach us a lot but distortion of history to create an illusion is wrong. History helps us prevent our mistakes but it's distortion defeats that purpose.

2) Aryabhata and the concept of zero. Of all the pseudo-science and false inventions that have been attributed to India's antiquity, you have picked the worst example to lay your claim. That you select Arybhata to showcase embellishment done by "hindu nationalists" shows your absolute lack of knowledge on the subject and says more about you than anything else. The impact of symbols and how symbols are tied to ideas and conceptualisation is an area I would invite you to explore. How the presence of a "dot" in the Bakhshali manuscript was instrumental in the conceptualisation of zero is something I hope you will understand and appreciate at some point. Read up the recent study conducted by oxford university in this regard as a starting point.

KT aced it again as usual , he is the one with knowledge in the group along with Neville. Kautuk made some points , some were interesting too. But as ususal Varun was yawning coz its a more serious podacast. He'll be enjoying it if it would be a stupid question podcast with a celeb n all.... Infact, Neville would be a great addition or substitute to Varun for this podcast. as he would also share some good insight or info as KT.

I know this is a comedy show....but that Siberia becoming food producing area is hilarious. Temperature is just one of the aspects of growing food. There are a whole host of other things that need to come together for growing food (like potable water). Also, what happens to the ice caps that regulate the weather now. There's a whole host of unwanted chain reactions that would take place as a result of global warming. And Siberia becoming a food growing area is just trivialising the issue (albeit unintentionally by Kautuk in this case)

Everything was making sense to me till they picked up cryptocurrency topic Because i had only little knowledge of those topics. But when they picked up cryptocurrency topic, i realised they have been talking shit till now because if thats the level of your discussion on cryptocurrency then i assume you have same low level of knowledge in others too. why i am saying this? because i know more than little on cryptocurrencies. And NO cryptocurrencies will not take over this world and NO currency is not like religion. Its about the system your establishment has provided you.

If climate change is such a problem why are Hollywood superstars driving around the world in private jets. One round of private jet is equivalent to 10 common folks going to use fuel in their whole life

I am a huge fan of big lebowski and the philosophy of dudeism it teaches. That is why I follow the rule of go with the flow. Don't care about anything happening around you. Just let things happen and adjust yourself according to it.
