SnG: What Were Our Favourite TV Shows Growing Up? Ft Tanmay & Rahul | The Big Question Ep 38 

Good to see Tanmay in his leaner meaner form, and I thank him for the kind words about my 'quiz mastery''. But just to get the facts right about his KBC anecdote - the show was mooted by Star to Synergy, through then programme head Sameer Nair, & not the other way around, and there was only one name that came up as a possible host, and that was Amitabh Bachchan. That happened at the very first meeting between Sameer & myself on KBC. He was to be the brahmastra of the first mega show on Indian TV, whose very intention was to hoist Star out off the distant no. 3 position on the ratings chart put it at the very top. It delivered within the fist few weeks. The prize value was actually set by Rupert Murdoch himself, at a meeting with the Star team at Mumbai, to put it out of reach of competitor channels who at that stage were far ahead of them. And its true that the first value proposed to him was a lakh. He said - how much is that in dollars ? And when told he said - no, they'll get there. Then came 10 lakhs - once again he nixed that as too gettable, & asked what was next, and a crore came up. Which is when to the awed team he announced - that sounds about right. But of course, the competition tried to keep up - Sawaal Dus Crore Ka & Jeeto Chhapad Phaadke ( which offered 5 crore) were announced soon after. Some more trivia co nnected to what was spoken about here - we a called the faster finger first intro shots Windshield Wiper shots, because any hand gesture had to be within a tightish fixed frame, but nor cover the face, and while contestants were free to use their hands in any way, most chose to wave below the chin. And that iconic signature tune has a trigonometric handle - Tan to the power of 8 ( those are the no. of notes - tan tan tan tan tan tan tan tan !!) You go, guys. Have a ball..

And I have to mention this. Varun you are so relatable..! You are the perfect picture of how a late '80s or early '90s kid from a middle class family has grown up! The things you mention, Shubha Khote, Khul jaa sim-sim, watching Kyunki, "Don't darofy", Sarabhai, Small Wonder..this is our childhood, in a nutshell! And not everyone would know these! I think there was a CID "mahaepisode" crossover. It was a full CID episode, the killer dies at the end and turns into a ghost for the Aahat episode.

There is an epic parody (NSFW) of CID called as ch**u CID, go check it out. 3. I used to watch "Kyunki Saas...thi" at the same time you discussed when Mihir (Amar Upadhyay) was supposedly dead, the reason being that my homeplace name was mentioned in the episodes.
