The spielberg shot that Varun is referring to, is actually not spielberg's original idea... Alfred hitchcock used it first in Vertigo, if I'm not wrong... Just wanted to put this out there...
paradoxicalman 19 plus he has a new movie coming out along with Greg Sestario (Best F(r)iends) not to mentiom the Franco brother's The disaster artist.
I loved the fact that you brought up the "Goodbye Jews" line. It sends chills up my spine every time I watch it. Also loved that you love "Office Space". The research Mike Judge does for his movies is mind blowing. Was a bit disappointed that Indian directors didn't feature much. Satyajit Ray's Aguntuk, Adoor Gopalakrishnan's Elipattayam, Benegal's Kalyug, and Nihalani's Drohkaal are simply some of the best movies ever made.
They weren't going to cast Tom Cruise in Shawshank Redemption but Tom Hanks, he was unavailable as he was shooting for Forrest Gump. They ended up casting Tim Robbins. But lucky for Tom Hanks, his brilliant performance in Forrest Gump won him an oscar. Both the movies are great, but I think Shawshank Redemption is way better than most of the movies ever made. Also, Frank Darabont has directed quite a few movies such as Green Mile, The Majestic, The Mist.. And not just Shawshank Redemption as you guys mentioned
You guys missed one of the best directors of all time: Stanley Kubrick!! Lolita / 2001: A Space Odyssey / A Clockwork Orange / Barry Lyndon / The Shining / Full Metal Jacket / Eyes Wide Shut
Okay here's the thing guys! You do a take on famous directors and movies, do it in a way that you don't give out spoilers and make it in a way that you make others watch their movies
Jackie Brown is Tarantino's most underrated movie. If you watch it after Pulp Fiction, you'll definitely won't love it. Watch it again after sometime, I guarantee you'll love it.
the amount of information stored in varun's head actually baffles my mind.. Hollywood ki to krta hi hai..india ki koi bhi baat shuru hoti h chaahe gaane, comedy bc kch bhi..sath k sath machine gun jaise name-dropping shuru ho jati hai
Nayak is an awesome film?, a film that has johnny liver constantly saying "ja be chakke" is worth mentioning in the same breath as films like pulp fiction or taxi driver? seriously?
Kautuk has seen a lot of youtube videos on directors and came prepared, then as always found out that he has nothing much to add to the conversation apart from occasionally jumping in with anecdotes
No one said Wong kar wai (who is among tarantino's fav his movie chungking exp made tarantino cry from joy of loving that movie) .....shh they are idiots anyway 😂
The Directors Appeared on screen as... 1. Edgar Wright 2. Quentin Tarantino 3. Martin Scorsese 4. Steven Spielberg 5. Michael Bay 6. James Cameron 7. Frank Darabont 8. Danny Boyle 9. Christopher Nolan 10. David Fincher 11. Darren Aronofsky 12. Judd Apatow 13. Mike Judge
Dudes, you people don't even know half of the phenomenal directors in India. Bollywood is anyway shit, we all know that! Bollywood is not the entire India. Talk about regional film directors. The person you talked about for half the podcast, 'Stephen Spielberg', he made E.T. based on the work of Satyajit Ray. Watch him and director like Kurosawa talk about the only Life time achiever in Oscars from our country.
Fact check: In Kaanten, Tim Roth was Lucky Ali and Steve Buscemi was played by Kumar Gaurav. Kaante was a very shitty version of Reservoir Dogs, typical bollywood emotional atyaachaar.
I would like you to discuss 'Crazy/weird/unexplainable marraige customs in various religions and castes' for The Big Question. For example, in Sindhi marriages, there is a function where the groom's clothes are torn apart by his cousins. And literally there are the dhol-waalas called for this function and everyone else is invited from your family to dance like tearing someone's clothes apart is suddenly a happy thing. Crazy right? Google it or ask your 'Sindhi' friend to confirm 😛
I have a request for you, SNG. Please try to avoid interjecting each other during your podcasts. It becomes difficult to understand who is saying what. This doesn't usually happen when the podcast has 3 to 4 members. But as they say, too many cooks spoil the broth. Another point is, please plan your podcasts. When you have decided to discuss on your favorite directors, it only makes sense that you discuss and divide it. Part 1 on only Hollywood and other foreign film directors & part 2 on only Indian film directors as a whole. That would have made more sense. Thanks anyway.
