Sniper Elite 5 - Review - Was It Worth The Wait? 

I played the first 3 levels yesterday from just before noon until about 3:30am. The maps are huge with tons of enemies. I spent over 4 hours on spy factory alone! I love it!

There's just not any other games that are as sheer down right fun as the Sniper Elite Series.

I've played thru Sniper Elite 4's campaign at least five times alone and three times on multiplayer. Even if it's only equally as good as #4, I welcome the new and larger missions to explore.

Finished the first level. After really enjoying SE4, I can easily say this one is not for me. The best way I can describe the feeling of SE5 is "tinny". The shooting mechanics feel flat, the animations are janky and it just doesn't feel as tactically refined as SE4. After thinking what the hell have they done, I finished the level by just sprinting around meleeing everyone who came into sight. Seriously dissapointed.

Sorry to comment so often but I’m commenting as I watch, that mission with the air raid sirens at 20:23 is genius! I personally thought se4 was lacking in natural sound masks outside of the railway cannon and occasional low flying plane so I’m glad to see they’ve done what looks like a whole mission with a constant sound mask.

What a fantastic review. I feel like you cover everything in-depth. I never really got into this series - because I generally prefer up close and personal stealth. It sounds like it’s more of a viable option this time around though. Maybe I’ll give it a go.

I'm on mission 4 atm and I enjoying it a lot. It's a general improvement over the last Game and SE4 was a blast to play. Invasions are Fun, but I have to turn them of most of the time so I can play in "peace". 😄

Started playing the game this morning and I'm very impressed. If people say this looks just like SE4 must be blind. The game's textures and colors are far superior to SE4 and the photo grammetry really shines! So far very impressed especially with the gun audio!

as an authentic+ player to see this isnt available hurts although i have heard authentic mode in se5 is like auth+ but i will wait and see. Some reviews i have seen of se5 on authentic does not look like auth+ on se4. Also i am sad to see rocks go as these are a key tool on authentic modes. I have the game preloaded and ready to go. I hope it doesn't disappoint but i am excited to give it a run out! Great review .... thanks!

@20:13 sniper elite has always been amazing for this, the ambiance of war torn berlin with all the bombs and screams was chilling, amazing for 2005

I've come back to this channel to watch the SE videos, your voice for commentary is perfect. When you get new releases I've often noticed with some reviewers they get all high pitched with excitement and start talking the brown stuff but your channel is refreshing and on a great level, I've been a SE fan since V2 on the PS2 👍

How's the Auth+ Sniping? Are the optics usable for cold bore identifying of range and wind? Is the relocate system back? How's your ability to go loud but stay unknown?

I think what we got was a Sniper Elite experience designed to be nickeled and dimed to us over time in the same way that Dead Army 4 was. That being said, while there’s a lot of jank, lack of weapons, and overall confusing design decisions, I feel like this is the most authentic, repayable , and atmospheric sniper elite yet.

I got sniper elite 5 when it first came out and only today did I find out active reload and rolling exists 💀.

I just wish they brought back the camouflage system they have in sniper elite 1 but better. Like you can customize your characters uniform base on the environment.

I’m guessing that crouch running was removed in Sniper Elite 5 for the sake of making it less harder to spot players in Invasion mode. I mean imagine how irritating it would be to not spot a player moving from one point to another in such a short amount of time simply because they lower their profile on the move with crouch running.

Not only have I asked Rebellion about the Trip-Mines, but I've also reported some AI bugs (I play on Authentic) and requested the ability to disable autosaving and customize your manual save 'allowance' in the advanced difficulty settings. Response impending.

Waiting patiently on it dropping through my door (hope it comes a day early) been playing through V2,3 and 4 like a madman for weeks, the DLC levels on SE4 are fantastic as well

I think sniping is much easier in SE 5, and I found some of the gun mods frankly stupid. I now plan to make a playthrough with "virgin" guns. I also felt dissappointed that S-mines and tripwires have been removed. But I still enjoyed this game very much, don't get me wrong! Invasions are ok but often over too quickly.

Love the review, I pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition, as the same is game for me haha, I’ve loved the series, V2 being one of my favorites(shocker, I know) but given a more open ended approach that the Hitman series has adopted, is a welcomed addition. Booting it up tonight(8pmEST) and looking forward to saying, “Auf Weidersehen to your nazis balls!”😂

Couldn't wait for 5 to release. Always a favorite, however, I bailed on it probably around mission 3? The town/castle mission just didn't do it for me.......and another game probably came out which is why I bailed. It just didn't feel like a sniper mission. Like they were trying to pigeon hole you into a run and gun. Now I'm going to try again fresh because I really do love this franchise and it's good to see you're still making videos for it. Loved your videos on 4 about bullet drop off and wind.

Since I only play on Switch and 3ds anymore, I really really REALLY hope they manage to port this game to the Switch, where I (re)played every other Rebellion game, including Rogue Trooper, Strange Brigade, all things Zombie Army, and every available Sniper Elite, as I'm really a fan of their work.

but no tripwire or S mine ? did they really remove them as people say.. if true that feels like taking out some of the heart of the SE, how ells can you set up safe or fallback locations

Love all sniper elite games, se5 is fantastic only draw back is no bouncing betties or trip mines, having said that it’s a great game, the alarm replacing the radio operator, no “spotter’s” at least you don’t have to get up and run away from the flare gun, trying to go stealth on some levels is difficult especially on spy academy, give’s you the option of either killing or knocking them unconscious is a benefit, in all a great game

Nice...i like that it is more of the same with improvements in details. I just recently played Sniper Elite 2, 3 and 4 and I'm ready. Tomorow is Father-day in Germany, so i locked me up in my chamber and play the shit out of it

Won a PS5 by total happenstance through an institution I do some business with every so often - purchased Elden Ring which has been amazing - then I got this yesterday and it’s soooo much fun to play man. Had not played a game since PS2 and I’m having a blast blowing Nazi heads off in slow-mo. This game is like the old call of duty mixed with metal gear solid - a lot of fun just in the single player campaigns

So Mr Brutal, what is the best way to give Rebellion feedback about any bugs or glitches? I’ve been playing all day and finished the first two levels on Authentic and there’s been a couple of weird things happen. Twice I’ve had a nearby landmine activated that did not make any sound. Couple of other bits and pieces. But overall a very good experience and thoroughly enjoyable. Took me awhile to work out that even when selecting authentic difficulty you still have to go into difficulty and set all the variables to the hardest setting, else it is not hard enough… cruised through the first two levels thinking that the game had been horribly dumbed down but luckily worked it out and now it’s all coming down on my head in St Denis. What a map!

Thanks for the review Brutal!! Sniper Elite 3 and 4 are two of my highest played games on steam. And I have only ever played the campaign and coop modes. I cannot wait to fire this up tonight (thank you time conversion that 1am tomorrow is 8pm my time lol). Why is it not lunch time here yet! Time is dragging today!! LOL. The two negatives you have talked about didn't dissuade me from preordering, the lack of Overwatch, and not being able to invade a friend's game unless out of sheer luck. I would love to see them at least add the latter in at some point! I am sure my friend and I are in the minority in enjoying Overwatch, even though there were only two maps for it. We would have liked to see more but it was an interesting coop mode. But definitely we want to be able to invade our friends directly. It is lots of fun to laugh about it on Teamspeak and say things like "I am coming to get you Karl. You vill be mine!" in my bad German accent! LOL

I turned the in game music off half way through the 1st level, was a great choice cos now I can hear so much more.

The developers used the Royal Armouries to study the weapons to make them authentic... and then went overboard with the attachments. Well that is going to be interesting if Gamespot does a video on the weapons in Sniper Elite 5, cant wait to see the Royal Armouries reaction :P

The new collectible/ intel system sounds incredible, they kind of did it in 4 but only to hint towards the arguably weak twist that dorfman and Böhm where the same person. The fact that the optional objectives won’t be on the map until you find intel will make the levels so much more diverse the first few play throughs and I love it.

I had a bunch of fun with Sniper Elite 5 with my friend, we managed to get all the achievements in about 30 hours. I'd recommend the game :)

I haven't finished the entire video yet but this seems like a good review. I appreciate the work you put into it. I do hope based on other reviews I have seen that they patch an option to eliminate your own and other white outlines of enemies for a more realistic feel, and I also have to disagree with you regarding no crouch run, esp considering the larger play area. That seems to be a big deal for a lot of people. Not something that would keep me from a purchase, but definitely something that will annoy me.

This game is absolutely spectacular the levels are so detailed you think oh just over this hill to the objective nope if you don't look at the map you don't realize how much maneuvering it takes to get from point A to point B and so on

I have mixed feelings after watching some videos. I don't know if 4 is better than this.

They need to add the Zielacht 8x scope for the k98 in my opinion considering the m1903 does have its 8x zoom

I have mixed feelings about this title. I've played through almost the entire campaign so far, and there are a few really good missions (3 obviously) there are a couple that are really lackluster. War factory and Festung Gurnsey both have neat concepts, but there seem to be almost no enemies on the map. If you get in trouble only about 4 guys show up and they're usually easy to deal with before they get to the alarms. There are really sparse populations in areas you would think would be a lot more heavily gaurded, such as the secret bunker in Gurnsey where I could walz in completely uncontested past checkpoints, sandbags, and mg emplacements. Yes, there are reinforcements and random truck drive throughs, but the AI is too dumb to really do anything about the slew of dead bodies they find hours after I've moved on. It seems they've increased the map size, but kept the same number of enemies total on the map. I've been playing on a mix of authentic and sniper elite, pretty much just the enemy difficulty cranked all the way up while still retaining some hud elements. I like to play stealthly taking out everyone without being seen at all, so enemies are all at their default positions. Going through without being detected is even easier now with subsonic ammo and weapon mods, It's very easy to make sure they never get any reinforcements at all, compounding the problems with the lack of enemies. I agree with what you say about the end, I hope they make the AI the main focus for improvement in SE6. The rest of the game is excellent, but the lack of strong AI really drops the ball(s) on making the game challenging. Maybe they can come out with an Authentic Plus with better AI as an update or something, idk.

I from the UK myself and realy enjoy your videos on sniper elite I own all of them myself and I'm playing sniper elite 5 on my ps5 been loving it and was realy enjoying the axis Invasion part till recently as now they have a camping count down that messes with the whole sniping game play waiting gor your enemy to come in to a zone you know they have to and taking time to shoot them like a real sniper and now tend it in to a run and gun I feel it also no longer credits the kill when they kick you from the game like they stated and when they die from other nazi soldiers which I do understand but can be quite annoying managing to find your prey and going to run and gun them as is pushed now gor them only to die by a lucky soldiers shot and not be credited the kill its just frustrating now and not as fun as it was when the game launched if I could let the devs know I would but I wouldn't know how to so if you could pass it on I would be most grateful and may I ask your opinion on the changes to axis if you played from day one to since they changed things

What I love most about the series is each game improved on the last. Something i think is very rare nowadays. So hyped to play this tomorrow.

i love the invasion mode but i agree it’s frustrating that the allied sniper can just kick you whenever they want. i had a similar situation where i went up against a co op team. i killed the first sniper and before i could find the second the host removed me from the game.

Hey man you mentioned you didn’t like the button press to switch shoulder’s and i know you use a Xbox controller, so have you ever considered getting one with paddles? I’ve got the razor tournament controller with 2 back paddles and 2 extra bumpers and could never go back to using a standard controller now, I’m just going to remap the extra bumper to switch shoulders so I don’t have to take my thumbs away from the stick. It’s expensive but I highly recommend it.

I hate that crouch running got removed. It's needed in every tactical shooter game. It realistic and adds to the immersion. This is gonna bother the shit out of me.

I see there is many, changes in SE5 than 4, for the best it seems, I just hope rebellion, do iron out most of the annoying bugs, and as for invasion mode, I wonder if the invading player can leave, the campaign at any time, if thay wish to.

Review. It's awesome on Xbox Series X. I have no issues. I'm on level 3. But you have to explore everything to finish side missions. And now you get fps if you want. Which is helpful. But it's awesome 👌

The only concerns i have are ( as of now ) very very limited multiplayer maps ( I have confidence more will come ) and the tagging system although minor is a pain in the ass as you have to wait a few seconds to get a full tag on enemy's both campaign Ai and players which i find unnecessary as opposed to to other sniper elite series where you just instantly tag with a push of a button....other than that this game completely and undoubtley exceeds the expectations for the series and really puts it into the spotlight ( no pun intended ) that is desperately needed

Question. The gameplay that your showing, is it stuttering? So, Sniper Elite 5 only has 5-6 sniper rifles? That's quite odd, considering the main charter you're playing is a SNIPER.

hi barracuda..i get this game today may 25...i miss that flairgun and also that big shotgun...why is there no colorscope to kill enemies or throwing knifes to kill that nazis??this game is much better and much longer levels then in other sniper games....the game i play is on xbox series x very good screen....ok have nice shooting and regards from the netherlands...

It looks great on PC. I hope my xbox one /4K tv can do it justice. I hope the workbench updates are user friendly. Looking at the first mission, it seems a lot harder than anything on sniper elite 4. But maybe similar to the DLC missions. I will miss the traps. I used to use my std rifle rounds plant a delayed s-mine. Run to a different area and use my suppressed rifle to attack from a different direction. It doesn't look like this is possible especially with how easily and quickly they can identify you. Enjoyed the video's will be looking forward to the next Viiddddeeeooo!

Being able to kick the invader should be only available at the start as a prompt, from then on it should be mano e mano

Didn’t know you could roll while prone know and I certainly didn’t know about the exclamation mark above the enemies head, letting you know they will hear your sniper rifle before you even fired it guess you learn something new every day 😂😂
