You are so knowledgeable about all this stuff. How did you learn it? Like me, I'm a bicycle mechanic and there is soooo much to know. But I have endless resources to figure shit out. It's not like you can go take a class on restoring old coin-op arcade games. But if there was such a class, you should teach it.

Peter we learned it all from buying broken games then trying to fix them hands on, after awhile you get where you've seen stuff a couple times and get it up and running again :) When we were kids, we bought a game out of the local arcade for 80 bucks and then decided we wanted to turn it into another game (the guy at the arcade told us we could)... so from there we started working on all kinds of them over the years!

James we keep getting people in now, buying PLUSH CRANES.... because they liked them when they were younger. Can you believe that? I guess it is just an age thing. The Neo Geo games were always respectable though even to us folks that were into the older stuff.

Another great video, Ron! Neo Geo was such an awesome system! My local mall back in the day had tow arcades- a Time-Out and another one called Galaxy. The Time-Out had a 6-slot cabinet and Galaxy had a 4-slot. I always wanted to own an AES system when I was younger, but they were so darn expensive! I’m glad I own an AES today though and I also have a 1-slot motherboard. Keep the videos coming!

We've got more on the way :) They had them at some of our local arcades but my memory is so bad I can't remember the specifics, I do remember playing them at the pizza place though!

Also calibrate the camera with a nominal start screen then enable auto exposure lock (not focus, though that's good too) to prevent automatic brightness/contrast sensitivity/adjustment of the camera. It looks pretty good, but you need the camera settings to allow it or it keeps auto-adjusting. I had a few in which I got it to work half-way decent. I need a better camera (other than cell phones). Your videos are great, though. Really enjoy.

We just got a new camera and we're playing with some settings here and there, we put it in manual mode (on the next video) and yes it worked much better, the only thing though is the annoying roll through the screen that the shutter introduces but unless we get a really high end camera we're not going to be able to avoid that....

@@LyonsArcade The roll thing is that the refresh rates of the CRT and the camera aren't exactly the same, and even if they were they'd have to be synced so the refresh artifact wasn't in the middle of the screen. Even film cameras back in the day when showing CRTs in a scene had a flicker, though it was bad because they were 24fps and the TVs were 60fps. The main thing is the auto exposure that automatically adjusts the brightness and contrast, and the secondary thing is getting a good initial focus (then locking it) on the phosphors. Any roll signifies legit CRT for recordings in my mind. I need a better camera as well to calibrate settings. CRT contrast ratio and phosphors are a beautiful thing and it's hard to find examples of them on RU-vid, so many of the newer generations miss out.

Yeah and I think you could get a memory card that worked at home and at the arcade, I never tried it though :) Of course I never had the home system either, but a friend of mine at school had one.

So there was a 6 slot Neo Geo arcade game and I am not crazy. I really liked how when you switched between games on the 4 or 6 slot NEO Geo arcade games it had a light behind the picture cards in the Marquis that represented each game you selected. And a number read out as well. Compared to a Nintendo play choice arcade game which only had a menu system.

The local ma and pop pizza place next to my high school in the early 90s had a 4 slot Neo Geo, along with Mortal Kombat. Sometimes we would get free pizza because we put all of our money into these machines.

So many 1-slot systems were cannibalized to make consolized MVS home systems back in the day that they are a bit uncommon now. There are a few hardcore collectors out there trying to collect all the cab variations... 1, 2, 4, and 6-slot... With and without Memory Card readers... Negative side panel art with black and red colours flipped... Plastic panels for outdoor use (boardwalk?)

This is the model I have, at least as far as the board is concerned. I have the wood-grain "gold-cab" I think they are known as, as opposed to the iconic red. Not sure if it was shipped like that or not, but mine has the board down flat instead of held up to the side wall.

@@LyonsArcade The board inside mine is a single slot but the front of the cab has spots for two instruction sheets and has a game selection button, so either it was sold with 1 slot with the intent being for future board upgrades, thats just the way they were manufactured like that by default, or for whatever reason a board swap occurred with it at one point.

Great video!! I have a 6 slot cabinet and 48 games! The PCB board is not supposed to be on the side like that one! They all are set flat across horizontal!! The multicart is pretty great for the neogeo, and you can access the game settings to turn on the violence etc for metal slug and others, but sadly any changes you make aren’t saved so you have to set up each game every time you power on the machine. If someone made an sd card version that you could save settings it would save alot of fuss. Also even though most neogeo games are on the multi not ALL of them are. The best part about it is that there are so many amazing games that you can play, and the cart is pretty cheap. The Nightmare in the Dark game being played for example is expensive as hell for a dedicated cart!

If you use real carts (even just bootlegs, though, ick...why?) the NEO-GEO's BIOS saves settings and scores for individual games. That's a huge drawback of multicarts...they don't save _anything._

To shed some light on your question about how its mounted both of mine have a wood just under the control panel and that is where the board is for me at least. I thought yours kinda looked naked without it.

Are yours 1 slot versions, though? The way the harness is routed in this one it wouldn't be able to reach a board mounted like the 2 slot/4 slot ones are usually mounted....

Wasn't there a 6 slot neo Geo arcade cabinet? I remember the 4 slot but vaguely remember a 6 slot? Or is my memory is faulty. Chalk it up to old age. But I am guessing the cartridges for the Neo Geo arcade machines are like 2 to 300 bucks a piece. On the open market. Good games but those prices are outrageous. And not having to deal with bootlegs as well.

The cartridges of some of the more desirable games are expensive, but you can get some of the common ones for $20 or $30.

The best space shooter was I can't remember the name or what system it was on. But the enemies was either black or white. And if you got a power up from a white enemy you was immune to white enemies powers but took damage from black enemies powers. Unless you picked up black enemies immunization. Then you can't get damage from black enemies but can get damage from white enemies.

You really chose the worst games for this machine ;-) The "+" versions are hacks of the original games, you should avoid them in general. About multicarts, you have the 138in1, which is attached to a mini Jamma board for game selection, and has the originals ROMs. On the 161, they are hacked versions with bugs dur to the "hold start button to return to the menu" hack. The 138 can be upgraded to get rid of the Jamma card. This allows to boot the games directly and keep configuration changes. (You can see a poor video showing an external game selection screen on my channel if curious). MVS is such a cool machine! Too bad games are that expensive!

@@LyonsArcade probably, dunno how many arcade machines/conversion kits they made but they made around 1 million AES systems , 25,000 model 1 Neo Geo CD Model 1 systems.500,000 or so Neo Geo CD model 2, and around 30,000 Neo Geo CDZ. arcade aside the AES is the most expensive by a mile even though so many more units were made.
