It's true that SNL has always been filled with unfunny sketches with just a few gems. However, the good ones from back then are better than the good ones now. However, SNL still does a good job at spoofing politics. But then again, politics is a really easy target.

When you look back at the 1975-1980 SNL years, very little of it is funny, and I doubt Franken & Davis wrote anything very good.

That was when it first started. The Not Ready For Primetime Players. That was when SNL was funniest! Take a look at the ratings pre-1980 and post-1980. After 1980, ratings went down drastically!

@@jeffsanders663 the ratings in the beginning were good because there was nothing on opposite it and it was a novelty. Some of those skits went on forever and were pointless and after seeing “Samurai Whatever” once, it was pretty easy to figure out what was going to happen in the next one. Watch Robert Kline in that Greek Diner skit. It’s amazing that the writers thought it was funny. But the bit with Garret Morris circumcising a baby in the back of a Buick was great. But it was on tape.

@@jeffsanders663 and when Chico Escusqalia wrote “Bad Stuff ‘Bout Mets.” That was good, too. “Tom Seaver…always takes up two parking spaces.”
