Snook fishin' at the beach with 6 lb test mono was one of my favorite things to do growing up in Sarasota. My biggest was 38" and took about 20 minutes to get to the beach. Big Pass was awesome for years and it's probably still great all summer on both sides. South Lido Park on Lido and the North Shell Road beach access on Siesta Key were my best spots. The snook were always close and most people cast way past them. That's one thing I miss about FL, ultralight snook at the beach and catching a bunch of fish in front of the people with surf rods that laughed until they saw the results.

Absolutely awesome video! Thank you. It would be really helpful if your video would point out what you are discussing especially on the aerial footage. It would improve viewer comprehension of your amazing insights and strategies. This is one of my all time favorite saltwater videos.

So, drive boat along shore line , friend deploys drone to locate bait, dropoffs , schools of fish, seagrass or deeper current brakes? I think we all need drones now. I saw 25 snook from drone lol. Can you see permit tarpon and Jack schools ?

Very informative video, thank you! I live in NY but we’re moving to FL next year. I have a ton of striped bass surf lures, a lot of them are plugs. I notice that most of the FL snook lure fishing videos don’t show anybody using big plugs, mostly small jigs and rubber baits. Why is that? Wouldn’t larger plugs cull out the biggest snook?
@timothydavis6069
@timothydavis6069 4 года назад
It is because most people do not catch large snook, large being anywhere in the upper 30" range and above. True snook junkies would consider 8" paddle tails to be on the medium-small size. If you want an idea of what they can really eat, throw out a 14" ladyfish and you will see a 30" snook eat it. Also, a vast majority of the largest snook at taken night fishing where you can get away with the heavier tackle needed. You are correct in that bigger baits catch the biggest, as for throwing plugs it can be difficult due to the areas where larger snook typically sit (bridge pilings, fenders, rock lines, deep cuts near rock structure) hence the preference for a treble-hookless option. You should also step up your tackle beyond the tiny setup in the video. When swim baiting from land I use 9' musky rods rated anywhere from 1-8oz depending on the structure paired with Tranx 400A's spooled with 50lb braid. Any 300-400 size baitcaster will work. For throwing jigs its an 8'6 spinning rod lure wt. 1-4oz with a 6-8k sized reel, again spooled with 50lb braid both fished with about 8 feet of either 60lb or 80lb mono leader. Don't waste your money on Fluoro leader, I made the switch entirely to mono and have seen no difference.

@@timothydavis6069 Hey Timothy, Thank you so much for this response but I feel weird answering it a year late lol. It’s because I only recently figured out how to get response notifications on RU-vid. I did catch a 40 incher a few weeks ago under a bridge while wade fishing with bucktails deep in the night. That felt good! But now that it’s hot out here in SE FL would I be able to cull out a large fish from the beach at night, or am I going to still only get smaller fish? I’m OK either way. If I fish the beaches at night is it better in the deep of the night, or should I fish mainly around dusk and dawn?
@timothydavis6069
@timothydavis6069 3 года назад
@@Onewayto2024 They are all over the beaches but are fairly spread out cause the coast line is large. You can get them from the 'beaches' on the edge of passes most consistently. Same thing, light flair hawks and big swimbaits on lighter jig heads to keep from dragging bottom. Congrats on the snook!

@@timothydavis6069 Thanks Timothy! Am I better off deep in the night, middle of the day, dawn, dusk etc? When I used to surf cast for striped bass back when we lived on Long Island it was always better at dawn, dusk or into the deep night.

@@timothydavis6069 We beginners need to fish with you at least once in a lifetime to learn from your experience. Everything you have said in this post is absolutely corrected. It took me almost a year and a half to figure only 1/4 of your info provided here. Thank you for sharing your experience. I do have a question though, I have all kinds of soft plastic lure (pattle tails, jerk shads, etc), what is the best retrieve for those lures? twitch/twitch/pause or straight retrieve barely catch me any fish in SW FL. Thanks!

Quick question, why is the snook mastery sooo much more expensive than the tarpon mastery course. Was interested in the snook course until I saw the price. Is one better than the other?

I've fished with Dave before. Went snook fishing on the beach one time with him last summer, in the first 45 minutes he caught or or hooked 5 or 6 snook and I never had a bite. And I consider myself a decent fisherman. Say what you want about a 10 minute instructional video, but I know different.
