Love your videos and your commentary, Thank you. We are planning a family trip to the Yucatan in March and I'm wondering what you consider the best snorkel outing in the area. We all swim and the youngest is 10 y.o. My 21 year old daughter is recently Reef Woke and we are looking for a snorkel adventure ...can you help us?

+Brian McKinnis Thank you so much! I’m so sorry I just saw your comment, RU-vid apparently decided to hold a bunch of our comments for months and they are just now showing up. I hope you had a great time in Mexico! Our favorite place to snorkel we have been is Roatan. It is amazing reef snorkeling right from shore!

An easy drive from downtown. Large parking area. Enjoyed a late lunch there in June. Calm and quiet. Comfortable and relaxing. Plan to return again and snorkel.

+RICH SCHOEN As of October 7th 2019, Cozumel has closed off several reefs due them being severely damaged. I am unsure if it’s just diving or includes the reefs closer to shore to snorkel. I haven’t really followed up on it but it would be a good idea to check before you return to make sure the areas you would like to snorkel have not been closed off for snorkeling. The reefs there were really suffering when we went last year. 😢

How far did you have to swim out from the shore to locate the corals in this snorkeling video?

+rockfx84 I don’t remember exactly but wasn’t very far at all! At the time the really pretty corals closest to shore were roped off so they could try and recover. I don’t know if they are still roped off because this video was taken in 2018.

What camera are you using? Are you using a pink or red filter? Thanks! Digging the video!

Lee Herring Thanks for the love! This video was shot on a GoPro Hero 5 Black. I think we used a pink filter here. Usually we just use the red when diving and pink when we snorkel. We just got a GoPro Hero 7 Black with a Backscatter Flip6 but we don’t have another underwater trip until May (which will be Grand Cayman). Can’t wait to use it though!

@@SandGravityAdventures Thanks for the fast response! I just bought a 7. The one I replaced was a 2..... Holy cow what a difference! We're cruising next year and spending a day at Playa Corona. Thinking about getting underwater housing and was leaning toward pink. From what I've researched I'm afraid will make everything too red.

Lee Herring Oh yes then you had a huge upgrade! Playa Corona was the best snorkeling from shore we found in Cozumel. But as far a pretty place overall, Punta Sur takes the cake. However, the reef is a long swim out there and wasn’t as good as Playa Corona. We were pretty disappointed overall with the snorkeling in Cozumel. Most everything near shore is dead. :( If you do Corona, the best shallow snorkeling is to your right when you enter. Follow the ropes all the way to the end and then there are a few small reefs not roped off. There are some reefs if you swim straight out also but they are pretty deep so you’ll have to free dive to see those well. Have fun!!
