Welcome to Wonderhussy Adventure #420
Date of Adventure: 3/26/20
I sneak away from quarantine to camp out for a few days in totally deserted Death Valley (which, I should note, was still open at the time of filming -- so I wasn't breaking any laws or anything). In this video I explore the abandoned Viking mine camp...in an unseasonable snow flurry!

Oh, by the way, old mines are so awesome. I took a trip out there in the late 70's exploring nooks and crannies. What a ball it was. You do know, there are still precious metals left in those mining areas. They were abandoned due to a lack of technology and/or operating costs. Due to rising prices for precious metals, many old properties are being re-evaluated Great Stuff Ms. Sarah Jane Woodall

If I understand it right the placer is the posted paperwork filed at the land office and a copy of it is placed at the post you were looking at. In order to make sure the paperwork hasn’t been taken the agent/owner will periodically check to make sure the paperwork is in place and not degraded over time. Since it may be original paperwork the business cards are to provide contact information to prove it’s an active claim and for any offers for purchasing the claim. I think I’m correct but if anyone knows differently it wouldn’t hurt my feelings to be corrected. Proof positive that you have to be prepared for anything in the desert. Good on you that you were prepared Sarah. Stay safe, warm, and have fun Sarah.❤️🙏👍😎

My God, I have a couple of those same tv trays! The faux wood pattern is worn off of that one though. From the 60s I think. Awesome Video ! I know I'm old when I recognize some of the antiques you find. One of my favorites was a kitchen matchbox holder from a different video. When I was a kid my grandparents (and most older country folks) still had wood burning kitchen stoves and outhouses. Yup, I'm a fossil alright!

Mirrors have been used since the time of the pyramid builders to reflect light down long straight passage ways. They cast the sunlight into the darkness almost a good as a spot light. A second mirror could be placed at an angle where a 2nd tunnel intersects the first to reflect light down that tunnel as well..Based on the size of that old dresser mirror it probably lit that tunnel fairly well. We see still a few remnants of them at gold, silver and copper mines here in Arizona. That snow looks good, we hit our triple digits temps. here in Phoenix, Arizona this weekend. Then it's only going up from there 110-115 daily until the end of Oct.! Arizona Tom

Sarah, those mines are extremely dangerous. Have done rescue training in many around Las Vegas and suggest you stay out of them. Sometimes hundreds of feet vertical drop are covered with rotted boards covered with dust and dirt that appear to be a solid floor but when stepped on, you are in for the ride of your life, or death as the case may be.

That structure at the mine is what's known as a "tipple", which is used to load whatever conveyance with the product of the mine. The hopper is the part of the tipple that holds the product. Just thought you might like to know. Love (❤) your vids. 😊

I've been a fan of these types of 'abandoned cabin' and middle-of-nowhere videos for a while on a bunch of other channels - but it's refreshing to find one l that has some light-hearted humor and a nice attitude sprinkled in as well. Some of them get all like "people died here, omg" and a tad morbid - so this is a cool twist.

My family moved us to Tucson, Az back in 1959. I hated the dessert back then, but have grown to love it. Nothing more beautiful. Loved the scenic views you shared today. What a neat place to explore. That little cabin looked inviting, might go there myself to spend the night. I love your imaginative stories about what might have gone on in those locations. You have one of the best channels on RU-vid. Where are we going next?🤔😀❤️

Looking at all the old cabins always get my imagination going, who lived there, what were their names, did they have wives or children with them. By now all the things that were there are all gone. Sad but interesting, so glade your out there looking at all that and bringing it to us. I hope your having a good time, stay healthy, prayers to your friends and family. 👍😊🇺🇸

@tomfrye9037
@tomfrye9037 4 года назад
She probably didn't pay the ammo any mind. It was just .38 special...158 grain round nose lead. Now had it been some .223/5.56 nato...or 9 mm, that stuff's getting a little more scarce (like toilet paper) because people are hoarding ammo again. A lot of people are not convinced that the government should be trusted right about now.

Snow in spring is nothing unusual here. We once had a blizzard on a May Day. Seattle is not at a high elevation but in a convergence zone. Moist air goes around the Olympus Mountain Range and meet here. And if that gets hit by Siberian winds, coming over the Arctic and thru Canada, it snows. But it is surprizing seeing snow in the desert, because most people think of the desert as ALWAYS hot. Very interesting exploration. I look forward to more.

Nice video. The "tarpaper" material you saw was known as Insulbrick. Their salesmen moved through rural Michigan like the grim reaper sometime in the 40's. It was on old farmhouses all over the place and came in brown (as you saw), brick red and a bluish gray that I know of. Bees particularly favored nesting under it.
