NorCal folks make the summer drive and fall in love with the mountains. Buy a home and retire. Then once every (3-5) years Mother Nature slams them with reality. Then the “Home for Sale” signs go up. Shoveling snow and being hours way from hospitals is a reality.

Where? @1:29, they are dumping snow into Mammoth Creek. That's mostly meadow, away from any mountains. The Sherwins in the background are running parallel to Hwy 395, across from the airport. The big slide is over Hwy 395 at the west side of Mono Lake, between Lee Vining & Mono City(before Conway Summit).

They have doubled average snow and it is not done.

@Todd Williams yes, but anywhere it snows receives double their average from time to time. It's an inconvenience, but not a big surprise. People should be prepared for the climate they live in.

If people (engineers / designers) were smart, There would be a ceiling design that opens to the roof sheeting in heavy snowfall forecasts. therefore, the under side of the snow can melt & then slid off. It would work best with a tin roof

You can shed to the sides, but with 50 feet on a roof, shedding to packed 20 feet already on the ground, where does the Sierra Cement shed to? I agree with Chris Robinson. I agree. They could have shown the slide on Hwy 395 from the NE side of Lee Vining or Conway Summit(with a long lens). In Mammoth from ground level, you're just looking into snow banks, on each side of the road.

Most people in California are benefiting from all of this rain. So if you are religious, this is more like California being rewarded. Very few are actually negatively effected by these heavy winters.
