Snow Patrol's incredible epic 'The Lightning Strike' in its entirety. Part 1 - What If This Storm Ends?, Part 2 - The Sunlight Through the Flags, and Part 3 - Daybreak.
This music is like a deeply religious and profound experience for me. I’m 73 and I am a child of the 60s. The closest music that makes me feel anything like this was when I was young (19) and seeing The Grateful Dead at the Fillmore East in 1969. When they played DarkStar I was wildly tripping on acid. I saw the roof open up and saw Heaven. Naturally it was the drugs, the Dead, the audience, the venue and the times. I love all 3 parts and there’s a message of hope here. Something that in 2023 is sorely lacking. The third part makes me feel so very happy and want to dance. When I saw The Dead they would play Sugar Magnolia and I would go to the back and dance and twirl. It gave me such was a such feeling of freedom and vitality. I came upon this totally by accident. My wife went to a meeting and they gave out a CD and other things. The CD had various music on it including this entire song. It makes me feel so very good inside, happy to be alive and optimistic about the future. I cannot thank the person who posted this enough.
The feelings you describe you have while listening to this three part piece of music are also some of the same feelings I experience while listening to it. I have hit repeat on my cd player for this three part piece of music as much as, if not more than, any song I've heard in my life.
12:20 this part makes me wanna cry every time "And in the middle of the flood, I felt my worth When you held onto me like I was your little life raft Please know that you were mine as well"
As Dr. Seuss said, "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." Here we are able to relieve it and be transported, that's a magical blessing a miracle, a gift.
@@timothyfloogle No, I don’t speak Portuguese. I can speak some Spanish. I don’t remember how I found out about Saudade, I was probably looking for a word or words to express the feelings. When I found the word it totally described it for me. So Saudade is it! When you get that heartache or nostalgic feeling bittersweet... you can look up how to pronounce it.
Perfect comment this is how I feel, the best songs, best music & lyrics are like boarding a magical flight, that's what Gary creates a transportation to a higher plane, this song is the perfect example of that reminds me of the first time I heard Strawberry Fields.
"And in the middle of the flood I felt my worth When you held onto me like I was your little life raft Please know that you were mine as well" - I will never forget these lines. Someone I was dating years ago said this to me when I was at my lowest. We were both heartbroken from previous relationships and he was there to comfort me. Though we didn't end up together, I still think about him from time to time. How sweet it was for a beautiful song to remind him of me. I hope he still does.
All three parts are amazing! it's just that each song is set for different aspects of life. Thumbs up if you agree. Snow Patrol is a great group with beautiful songs.
[I - What If This Storm Ends?] What if this storm ends? And I don't see you As you are now Ever again The perfect halo Of gold hair and lightning Sets you off against The planet's last dance Just for a minute The silver forked sky Lit you up like a star That I will follow Now it's found us Like I have found you I don't want to run Just overwhelm me What if this storm ends? And leaves us nothing Except a memory A distant echo I want pinned down I want unsettled Rattle cage after cage Until my blood boils I want to see you As you are now Every single day That I am living Painted in flames All peeling thunder Be the lightning in me That strikes relentless [II - The Sunlight Through The Flags] From here the caravans are kids toys And I can hold them all in my palm I watch the sea creep round the corner It connects the dots from here to you The sunlight burning through the loose flags Painted high on white church walls I chase my blood from brain to thumped heart Until I'm out of breath for trying Worry not everything is sound This is the safest place you've found The only noise beating out is ours Lacing our tea from honey jars These accidents of faith and nature They tend to stick in the spokes of you But every now and then the trend bucks And you're repaired by more than glue Worry not everything is sound This is the safest place you've found The only noise beating out is ours Lacing our tea from honey jars Why don't you rest your fragile bones A minute ago you looked alone Stop waving your arms you're safe and dry Breathe in and drink up the winter sky [III - Daybreak] Slowly the day breaks apart in our hands And soft hallelujahs flow in from the church The one on the corner you said frightened you It was too dark and too large to find your soul in Something was bound to go right sometime today All these broken pieces fit together to make a perfect picture of us It got cold and then dark so suddenly and rained It rained so hard the two of us were the only thing That we could see for miles and miles And in the middle of the flood I felt my worth When you held onto me like I was your little life raft Please know that you were mine as well Drops of water hit the ground like God's own tears And spread out into shapes like Salad bowls and basins and buckets for bailing out the flood As motionless cars rust on driveways and curbs You take off your raincoat and stretch out your arms We both laugh out loud and surrender to it The sheer force of sky and the cold magnet Earth
thankyou for the words this has been insperation as my wife has been in long term care for almost a year, something had to go right some time today all these broken pieces, hope

Too bad that just the 1st part got some recognition... the whole trilogy is amazing, especially the piano polirythms at part II. Minimalism at its finest!! S2
This album (a hundred million suns ) means so much to me, I use to hate all these songs(my mom bought the album on her phone) I though they were so boring but when I got my first own phone I guess you could say( I-pod) i could only really listen to the i-tunes music my mom bought, for four years straight I’ve been listening to this album, it’s so special to me something just feels personal about that makes me want to cry bc it brings so many memories, I love every single song in this album i would never show this album to anyone unless that person meant a lot to me, I just got the cd at a record store (freaking out and surprised that I found it) everyday I come home from school I put on the cd and lay on my bed, the music it’s just so comforting and it helps me after a hard day. ( and yes I use a CD player for reasons)
Daybreak is one of the best songs Snow Patrol has made. They’ve tons of great songs, but this one is a gem they didn’t let shine like it could. It would have been another chart topping hit. It’s never to late to make a 2021 single so it can become the hit I’m sure it is. Just don’t change the tempo or the sounds and everything that makes it the beautiful song it is on A Hundred Million Suns EP.
Snow Patrol is such an incredible band. Saw them in Nashville on the Fallen Empires tour a couple years ago. Can't wait for their next album (and next tour!).
This song... this song remind me something, something that I want confess, because my soul still crying every night. The last ten months I been missing someone, someone that I loved with all I've inside me. She was my life, the happines painted in my lips; drawing a smile, the joy to my soul, the blessing of my spirit.. but now she took all, everything. I got NOTHING. All this hurt inside, burning in pieces.
I literally play this exact video and fall asleep to it every single night right when I go to bed. It calms me down and helps me fall asleep better, absolutely love it.
listening to this right now in december 2019, brought tears to my eyes the nostalgia is so huge my entire body is shivering as this song plays. i honestly love this song so much. thankful to be alive.
This song means quite a bit to me, its the song that I was listening to when I first saw the woman who was later to become my girlfriend. She's helped me through so much and whenever I hear this song it reminds me of all that she's done for me. Snow Patrol is amazing. There is no arguing that point.
before this video,, i only listened to this song on an old ipod. i was envisioning the storm and sunlight before i even realised it was intentional. its incredible how music can paint images without visual aid.
Everyone is stating what brought them here. I came here because I really like Snow Patrol's music. Its great. Really. The style really gets me going. Makes me slightly sad. Whatever. Its still great music. Snow Patrol your great. Love it.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This angered lots of people and is regarded as a bad move in the beginning there was nothing and before there was nothing there was death
I love this whole song! I love how this song is kind of like a storm, how the skies are just starting to darken, then it rains, and then you get clear skies again. perfect.
Yeah, they had that hit "Chasing Cars." It was my sister's wedding song. I remember buying the album for her as a wedding gift, and setting it to play as she and her new husband walked (unsuspecting) into the reception we had set up for her. I remember her tears of joy. Oh yes. I am very well aware of Snow Patrol, which is why I was delighted to know they still make excellent music.
Wow just listened, really listened to all 16.18 minutes of it. Spectacular. Something was bound to go right sometime today All these broken pieces fit together To make a perfect picture of us
What if Ths Storm Ends makes you want to hold on to the things you love never let them go, because one day, they'll leave and completely change, changing the way you loved them. The Sunlight Through the Flags has that happy bubbly feeling, telling you life is life so get up and dance. That you are young at the heart and nothing will melt that away. Daybreak, is the grand finale. A combo of both songs. It has that happy feeling, but the lyrics mean something else. ALL THREE SONGS ARE AMAZING
This is my theme song of this age. It makes me think of all the warriors I was so fortunate to know during the height of their prowess and how I will not forget the awesome sight of them in full glorious rage before they fell and the storm passed. I should be so honored that they would remember me the same.
My personal favorite is The Sunlight Through the Flags, I love the lyrics & the feeling. But the 1st part is definitely the most epic, and Daybreak compliments parts I and II well.
I never knew that the three songs are a part of one greater one, you my good sir have effectively blown my mind and made these three songs far better to me.
If ever you've been madly in love with someone and heaven just down pours on you both, unavoidable, inescapable saturation. And in that flooding rain all you both can do is laugh and help eachother cross through the street corners that were momentarily lakes. Eyes never once not in contact with your own. This song is that moment. I knew it years ago when it first came out how great it was. And now having it as a soundtrack to memories of someone who was the perfect halo of gold hair and lightning , my life raft, that I don't see now, as they were then or will ever again. It's a beautiful song to remember a beautiful moment with a beautiful person. Cherish those storms
Don’t know how i listened to this song five times in a row, maybe because it was nostalgic and brings back memories, and it’s very depressing it has piano, guitar, and incredible vocals and lyrics, let me know what I missed guys…
Thank u so much. This songs means a lot to me! This song have a lot of "up to heaven" moments. Those chorus and trumphets at the end of First part, gets my soul into Heaven SHAMAYIM Adonai
The melodic, orderly yet noisy crescendo in "What If This Storm Ends" is simply fantastic. This is a symphony of musical art just like Exogenesis. It's got Matt Bellamy written in it somewhere.
