I don’t think 10-bit color is a necessary feature for me. The Ace Pro 2’s built-in Leica color profile is certainly enough for my uses. I’m sure we all know that 10-bit is not even supported on social media.
0:28 Yep, that famous white balance drift is still there. Check the color of the snow right after your pass across the field of view. It is cooler before and warmer after.
Hey Malcolm, thought maybe this season for you, you could show us some of your park riding or add a bit of freestyle flair to your riding with butters, side hits etc. I love watching you carve of course and can understand if you’re just not really doing much freestyle stuff anymore but you are so in control and also break things down verbally so well, I think it would be cool to see you do a bit more of that riding. I think the last time I have seen you do a little of it was when you were riding a Dancehaul.
@@PacketOfCereal every year I tell myself I'm going to get back into park riding and every year I seem to steer clear of most things freestyle 😂 you're right though, I should get back to it! It definitely won't be early season as my resort doesn't build a park until mid January, but yes I will try and endeavour to make a park tutorial, my back 3s are still pretty good so I should at least be able to do a tutorial on those!
@@malcolmmoore hahaha, all good. Don’t put pressure on yourself feeling like you have to be riding like a pro in there and throwing crazy stuff. You are so in control with your board and body you can hit small stuff and make it look good. I think I just remember you cruising through the park on the Dancehaul and just looking calm and hitting things so naturally in a smooth line. It’s fun to watch someone riding like that and not always about throwing big spins or crazy stuff. If you want to do tutorials in there, personally I think frontside shifty with a backside 180, and backside shifty with a frontside 180 would be good to hear from your perspective. This season in NZ I managed to progress well with butters and backside 360 off side hits but was too scared to throw a shifty with a 180.
Probably nit picking here but on the wide shots tracking you, the colour of the snow was changing a bit almost randomly? Kind of like when using auto-exposure and moving into shaded areas the snow goes a more bluish tint? Despite that though, absolutely awesome footage! 😀
@@Mani3878 thanks for the inputs guys this isn't something I was really noticing, I think I need to continue working with the settings. It ended up being a very quick shoot due to the weather conditions!
@@jamesBuckyB Unfortunately, it is not. In fact, if you have steady-colour footage of this sort (snow in motion) you can achieve the same result in Insta360 Studio via intense colour correction. However, I'm not aware of any ways of undoing it.
I love the X4, its an amazing camera, it doesn't serve the purpose of what I need for my youtube tutorials in having a follow cam with that 'linear' look, but for everything else it is awesome!
Bro your carving is so neat, you rock. To be honest I´m not quite happy with the colour outcome, in some parts of the footage the snow seems to change from white to cyan, and then turns white again, it is a little bit annoying and sets the viewer attention off. I always shoot with an Insta 360 X4 now and an X2 before and never had that problem, maybe it is that I always use SDR to record on snow. I heard that HDR can give you that kind of trouble.
Malcom do you notice how it applies a tint of magenta and some yellow to the snow. This was a frustrating problem with the x3. I don’t know why it applies this tint, the snow should be pure white.
Malcom!! Would you be so kind to give a review on your nidecker supermatics? I’m abbot to get some new bindings and are between them and the clew. Thanks and enjoy the snow!!!
@@d-redfox Yeah I still use them. I haven't ridden the Clews so honestly I cannot say totally fairly what they are like, but they for sure don't have the best reputation. Nidecker do now give me free equipment, and although that doesn't require me to speak positively about them, its just something you should also be aware of! With that all out of the way I am still using them and what I can say is there have been multiple small improvements to the bindings since their initial release. Small things like the amount of pressure required to release the binding have been tweaked and adjusted. So, all in all, everything I said in my original reviews still stands, and small upgrades have been made along the way, but you wouldn't know about these unless you tried an old set straight to a new set. If you want a step in binding, then they work very well, but they don't offer anything performance wise over a regular binding.
Honestly I haven't tried all the cameras, for a really good impartial take I would try waching some of @Dcrainmaker videos. He puts them all against each other.
Yeah, you are right, insta360 sent me the camera early and covered the costs of this trip to switzerland, they gave me some modes to test and some points to mention, but otherwise it was up to me. I will be using it going forward and I have been using insta360 for a long time now. If you want a truly impartial review from someone who really tests all of the cameras I would check out DC Rainmaker. Mine is more here to give you some examples of on snow footage. I always head to his reviews if I want to get fully nerdy about some new tech. You can see his review here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VnHxgPmewZk.html
What promotional benefits did you get? Free sample? payments? Did they get to review before publish? Looks like a good option and the audio better than expected.
I got a free sample and the trip to switzerland was funded. They got a review before publishing yes but considering that I had already hit the key talking points it was all good. This was always intended by me, and I think insta360, to showcase the camera in a real on snow scenario that alot of other reviewers won't be showing you. However I did mark it as a paid promotion, therefore an advert, and it is something you should definitely be aware of. I would really recommend the video below for a truly impartial and well informed look at the camera: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VnHxgPmewZk.html
@@malcolmmoore - thanks! Sorry - didn't mean to cast aspersions on your review but want to know potential bias given Insta360s rep - it does look like a solid choice for snboarding camera. Need to replace GoPro 9 and want a helper for the X3.
@@BeakersBro nah it's totally fair to question all of that and to be honest I had completely missed the whole drama that had gone on surrounding them until now. Back to snowboarding content from now on!
Anything over 4k is so... useless... Both for the person recording (need to deal with huge files) and for the viewer (even few people watch on 4k, let alone anything above) However, the 60fps for action shots is miles different than 30fps
