I mentioned a bit in the video but what do you guys think about the idea of like a snow runner rally? I’ll make small courses on each map, and then I can race all trucks etc through and see who wins. Lots of variations like road racing tt for highway vehicles and cargo rally and so on! Each course will take about 1-3 minutes max so in a 20 minute video you’d see 7-20 vehicles taking their turn! I can pace them out and I’m still thinking through the finer things but that’s the general idea, so what do you guys think please?
good idea, better than baseball and darts, but not with semitrailers. You can use one of the challenges to test trucks in equal conditions, and there's also a time count.
I bought this truck, used it for a couple of missions, and forgot about it. Even without locking diffs, I like the Navistar better. Many of the trucks in this game are just there to add a bit of variety, and don’t really have anything special to offer. Once you have the Tayga, and the Azov, you really don’t “need” anything else. But I buy or collect them all just to try them out, even if it’s only for a mission or 2.
Yeah I would take the Navistar over this for off roading every time! On roads it wouldn’t bother me with either! This did have very good grunt up those quarry hills! But yeah I’m glad not every truck is great and like the Tayga etc because it makes it a different experience with each truck and I like that 👍🏻! Yeah it means some trucks are essentially useless at a lot of stuff but I think it’s the better alternative over them all being just as capable and go where they like
I really like this truck. I mostly use it for the two contests on the Black River map and to haul large trailers which require a high saddle. It is not as versatile as the Tayga, but it has its uses and has earned me a lot of money.
Yeah I think she’s still a beast of a truck! It did very well getting that heavy cargo up the quarry hills which a lot can’t! It even did the second hill which only the Tayga has managed so far! It’s got great power and pulling strength and speed too! Only thing that lets it down is the broken rear suspension which now kills it in the more hefty off road sections! But apart from that yeah I bet it’s a bloody good money earner as it doesn’t hang around 👍🏻
I had watched another RU-vidr play with this truck, and he had given it a pretty poor review, so I discounted it pretty quickly. I eventually decided, hey, why not give it a go. Once I put on the extras I quickly realized how great this truck is. I’ve pretty much shelved all my trucks and just use this one (except for the odd time where I’ll need a little more specialty stuff). This truck is definitely a workhorse on my game.
Yeah I think that’s a good guide to get started 👍🏻! That’s how I used to treat it too, now if I’m honest it’s basically high range or I just won’t drive the truck for long if it needs low so much lol! I much prefer the high range gear in the high range box and as of yet have never got stuck due to being in the high range box as basic low in half throttle is like low low anyway! But that’s just my personal preference 👍🏻, I don’t think you can go far wrong with your system, it works 👍🏻
The 'Good' traction category on mud seems to range from 1.3 to 1.9 with the exception of the scout OS 1 off-road tires they have a value of 1.2 (similar to some all terrain tires whose category is average). Chained tires are all the same (with again the exception of the scout chained tires CS1) at 1.3 traction on mud, the off-road tires UOD 2 have a traction of 1.9 on mud. Quite a big difference here.
Yeah I’m currently testing tyres as there’s a lot more differences than the scale they give us would suggest! I think chained are better than it’s making out though! On that container contest in drowned lands, I’ve done it many times with the Tayga, and I can consistently get a better time with chained single tears than with those big fat mud tyres! And that’s on a purely muddy map and route really! Some different mud tyres get the same time as the chained but can’t beat them! 2:45 is my best time and that was chained and one of the mud tyres, the custom mud ones can do about 2:50-2:55 at best! Plus other things like chained tend to drift less or at least catch the drift sooner on tarmac than mud tyres! That said I’m not hating on muds at all! I use muds plenty! But I do find chained to be an extremely good jack of all trades tyre that’s fine on every map! I have no doubt there’s most likely a specific set that’s better for each specific thing but the chained just don’t really let me down no matter how many times I switch maps and forget to change them 👍🏻
@@itsmrlonewolf I also did the container run a fair few times but the mud didn't feel that deep on most parts. So it might be because of the dirt traction which is a lot better on the chained tires compared to the big balloon mud tires. Could also be that the balloon tires cause more drag, slowing the vehicle down by a certain percentage. The chained tires might sink deep enough to get traction on the dirt layer underneath? Who knows...
Belgae yeah I think you’re right dude, although where you cut across the river bed gets deep and the chained clawed their way up very well and never made high range stall, but you’re completely right, that’s why I specified single chained rears over the duals, because the duals and the wide custom mud tyres have to push so much mud out the way first that it slows them down! The chained cut straight into the grippier mud and then the chains get very good grip! Doesn’t mean they’re the best at all but for that run they’re in the lead which surprised me! However they are joint 1st with one of the mud tyres that’s narrower than the custom muds on the Tayga 👍🏻
I must have bought and built this truck half a dozen times, messed about and sold it. I really want to like it, good looking truck and goes well. It just doesn't like being loaded off road. Regarding gearboxes, I adopted your high range style mid game and I've never looked back. I can't bring myself to use chains everywhere though even though as you say there is no penalty and often they are better than other options. Trouble is I can see them and something in my brain tells me it's wrong haha. I've tried every single truck in the game in my own tests and 99% of the time we seem to have the same view. Looking forward to more.
Haha I know exactly what you mean dude, I want to like it fully and it does do some things very well, but in an off-road game that rear lack of suspension just takes the joy out of off roading in it! I first used this for the pipe dream mission to bring the materials for it to the factory and it was my sort of main truck when i first went into white valley and even did the mission for the 745c in it, but i did get stuck once on smithville when i was turning onto the road to the farm
Yeah I think it’s a good truck! It’s got great grunt and early game I bet it’s a brilliant truck! It’s biggest and almost only let down is the lack of rear suspension meaning on the heavy off roading it’s always really slow, dragging it’s belly along lol! Eventually there are better more versatile trucks but she’s not a bad one for sure 👍🏻! Very impressed how it got those concrete blocks up all the quarry hills! Only the Tayga has one that besides so far!
I find it interesting that you compare this truck to the Navistar. The CAT CT-660 and CT-680, at least the first couple of years, were made in cooperation with International, which is essentially Navistar (International owns Navistar or the other way around)
21:47 seems like it has balancer suspension instead of a regular one. Yes, there's no travel at all, as well as no dampers and springs, but it can go over some serious obstacles due to these balancers. As you've proven just a moment after.
It could well be that dude, I don’t know a lot about that kind of suspension! However I don’t think it proved a lot at 21:47, I had to use the winch to get my rear wheels to start lifting over, and as the snowy bank is raised on the other side of the road, it helped keep the truck tall enough to get over, but then got completely stuck on the third attempt! Every other truck I’ve reviewed gets over these barriers a lot easier and smoother than this did! So if it has that suspension you say then it’s really not helping lol! But someone who’s looked at the game files told me its suspension value is 0.0 and I believe this is the only one like that so I reckon there’s some numbers missing possibly! It could just be that balancer one you say, but it’s not really helping the truck for a game like this! Even the little ZIKZ got over them better
@@itsmrlonewolf, i think that you are right. Further in the video it failed to climb the rocky mountain, which I thought would be easy for this truck, because of this tricky suspension. If you have played in Mudrunner or SpinTires before, you probably may have noticed suspension like this on a truck called Type D-535/D-537 on its rear axles. It works like a rocker arm, it can't dampen bumps, but gives the truck some other benefits, like the ability to easily overcome rough terrain with weird angles and stuff. It makes the rear "cart" always parallel to the ground, I guess. Yes it does actually make a lot of sense for some serious obstacles you’re right 👍🏻! I just looked at what you say at 32:10 and I’m not saying you’re wrong at all, but one thing I’ve noticed on this game with collapsed suspension is when you lift the truck up, the suspension droops and it could possibly be doing that, best example I just checked is at about 3:13 in my rift gameplay video, you’ll see the Tayga with broken suspension go up the lip of a hill and the rear tyres drop right down and it looks a bit like you say with the rocker suspension, but it’s more the game mechanics that it’s broken! However this suspension is like broken but not actually broken, so you may be right at 32:10, maybe it does have rocker suspension? I honestly don’t know but I’m not ruling what you say out at all, my gut says you might well be right 👍🏻

Me too. I can’t stand when I make a tiny steering input and the driver is crossing his arms, flailing about like he’s panicking. It’s really distracting.
Haha funnily enough they don’t bother me at all but I’ve seen many many people who it drives them insane lol 😂! I get it lol some tiny things can drive me mad too, for some reason this doesn’t bother me but then again I’m in 3rd person about 99.9% of the time anyway! Horn quality for example bothers the shit out of me lol!
You drive up an interesting point on cruise control. In mudrunner i was feathering the throttle a lot more, and personally i’ve been missing it quite often. (But thats just down to how i like to play the game) But yea, cant disagree with anything you say conserning gearbox. Liked the long thurough video,as much as the short ones. Loved the rally-idea. And this is my favorite have-fun-and-blow-off-steam-truck due to rwd and no suspention. Smack on sh!t rubber and full throttle. (Thats what she said)

@@itsmrlonewolf, please do a review of the highway trio, especially the GMC. Too much people consider it useless and sell immediately after discovering Fleetstar, but it isn't that bad in the early game, especially when upgraded.

Yeah that’s why I don’t get as much use from the off road box as medium low it just right lol 👍🏻! Oh really lol that makes a lot of sense actually, I reckon with the non existent cab weight, that the CT680 is lighter than the royal, so feels slightly punchier, and I guess if it’s geared lower that explains the lower top end but better grunt overall! Yesss I was waiting for this! Love the little thing. It’s not perfect but I keep finding myself going back to it, even if I already have the Tayga or Voron unlocked.
Yeah it’s a fun truck and surprisingly capable even with the non existent rear suspension! If I had the money I’d keep it but for now I need to sell to test and review other stuff but one day I’ll get it back and I love it’s speed and drift happiness lol 👍🏻
It was sad to see my favorite truck gracelessly list and sink to that shithouse recorder lol. That said, I use this truck a lot and everything you point out is absolutely justified. It is very nippy though and really comes into its own with the 2 slot tray or flatbed load. It still retains most of its speed. I’d never use it to pull a large trailer, go mud larking or do any recreational diving. Finally I would also note that the Cat CT680 rendered the Lo4f redundant. Not many trucks have done that either. 👍
It is! I have to say I think it’s faster than the 50 the speedo suggests! I think the royal etc is still faster but I don’t think by as much as this makes out! Top speed it flies along really! Does like to drift a lot though lol! Not a bad thing, just saying 👍🏻
That Cat has the front fascia that only a mother could love, they have built the most flat and uninspired surface for the front of a truck that i ever seen, it looks like someone took the face of garfield and smashed a frying pan into its face LOOK AT IT!! 3:20

It's a very handsome truck. Upon purchasing it and trying a few missions, I was very disappointed with it's performance. It tips a lot with trailers attached. The lack suspension is a big drawback and it's role seems to be as a highway truck. Which in Snowrunner is figuratively useless.
Yeah it is a good looking truck! I get what you mean dude my tests found the same thing! Incredibly hard to roll on its own, but it’s so light that the trailer has no issue over powering it and throwing it around like it’s nothing! Hence why I tipped so easily in the quarry 👍🏻! As for off roading it can’t really handle anything beyond dry dirt roads or snowy “roads” where tyre channels etc already exist but the ground is hard! Beyond that it struggles and scrapes it’s belly along everything! For road and light off roading though it did do well! The only other truck to get those concrete slabs up the last even steeper quarry hill is this and the Tayga so far! Really didn’t think this would make it but it did! So it has its uses, just not much off road lol 👍🏻! And as you say, it’s an off road game

there is a reddit post on the Tire stats. there you can see wich Tires are best for every Terrain. in actualy useful Numbers. Chained Tires aren't that good in Mud.
@@jasonsayre7257 Stats-wise it _should_ be the OHD I and the UOD II with a 1.9 as the most relevant value (with most mud tyres having a 2.0), trailed by OHS II with 1.8. Since all of these tyres have a value of 3.0 in the stat that is most relevant for offroad grip while mud tyres clock in around 2.0 these offroad tyres _should_ be better in many situations that don't involve a lot of mud. Mr. Lone Wolf already said he wanted to do a few tyre tests, and I reckon those might be interesting to see how these stats play out in practice.
TheKincognito thanks man a few people have sent me that link and I’m just testing some tyre options to see what I find! I have to say though don’t lose faith in chained tyres too much as I think you’ll be surprised in actual real world testing, I’ve been driving the Tayga on the container contest speed run and I got a consistently better time in chained tyres than I did with those big custom mud tyres! Chained tyres set an equal top record on that contest with the same speed as one of the other mud tyres at 2:45! Whereas the custom mud tyres could only get 2:50-2:55! And that’s a muddy map! So chained tyres aren’t as bad as they sound! I’ve found them to be great everywhere which is why I use them in these videos as they’re very consistent even on all the different regions 👍🏻! They also reduce drifting on tarmac and catch the drift easier over mud tyres! Plus trucks like this one couldn’t have mud tyres and the chained look the same ratings as off-road, only has the ice advantage too, just wanted to throw that out there 👍🏻

Nice analysis of low range gearboxes, but you have overengineered the reason they done it this way. It's like that, because otherwise keyboard player would constantly go full wheel spin on every gear, and the game would be unplayable for them. I use Xbox controller on pc, and because of full control of throttle i can fully control the amount of grip or power i have. Low range is only needed in this case for engaging diffs. I'd like to se proper imp0lementation of low range at some point. It's exactly the same reason, why SCS in ETS2 implemented proper auto gearbox with option to disable it, which limits RPMs to 1500 regardless of engine and box combo, again, so keyboard players can actually play the game :)

Yeah that’s what I basically said at the end is I think they’ve done it like this otherwise every gear option would still be wheel-spinnable and it would be enough of a pain for console remotes having to feather it all the time! I didn’t even know pc players have even less throttle choice! Yeah I’d really like to see an option just to turn it all off so it has no Rev or speed caps and yeah it would mean more feathering but for a good realistic play in some mud pits that would be cool to have the option to cancel it 👍🏻! But I can see why it’s like this which is why I said I don’t think it’s a bug or anything and overall it’s better like this permanently over what I described as for long term gameplay it’s just easier! I do think it really limits the benefits of the off road box though as some trucks, especially with less power than this, can’t always find enough torque with such a low Rev cap!

@@itsmrlonewolf Oh no, it's a bug with youtube comments, I'm aware of it, no idea why it does it sometimes. I think rally is a good idea! I've been trying to find a good but fast mud pit of deeper less sticky mud (it seems this mud is rare, but I've found patches of it ) to do a traditional tractor pull with the trucks and different weights. I mess around so much in the game I haven't done many missions so going to knock those out the next couple days.
@@itsmrlonewolf I think it has to do with when I comment from my phone vs laptop or pc. Sometimes it will post the comment then I close the browser and it warns me it didn't post so I think it's deleting it.
@@itsmrlonewolf another feature that isn't explained, but you have talked about and others a bit is linking trucks. People in alaska do this in real life, and it's in game (throttle controls winched vehicles) but it isn't really utilized enough on slippy hills or explained by the game.

But the Cat CT680 _can_ have a crane with a saddle. It's just a bit of a sneaky bitch and steals the crane when you install a cabin protector. It can even have a crane with the cargo beds, but then it can't attach a trailer on top of that.
Yeah I think it can have both dude but that cabin protector pushes everything back and eats up room! That’s why I never fit them, I forget which truck I reviewed now but I showed the same thing how both fit and then you put the cabin protector on and they don’t! Shame really as it makes the cabin protector not just useless but a negative add on
Tedacules the P16 is oddly one of the best off roaders in the game lol! It’s like it’s so big that everything counts as shallow mud etc! Obviously it’s not actually the best but for what it is and what it doesn’t have like awd etc, it’s a beast lol! And that horn 👌🏻

Haha people have been bloody good to be honest! One numpty reckons we’re all clowns and idiots unless we all drive in off road boxes, in low all the time unless it’s a road, which yeah I’m not driving at 2mph everywhere lol! But some people were recommending off road to me and rather than explain my choices in each comment I just wanted to address my reasoning in a video of how I came to choose high range so much! If anything I think I’ve gave people a harder time about the delights of high range lol 👍🏻
