@@nathandodge665 cant you say that about every guitarist? another thing that makes him a great player is his tone and clarity. i would say his tone is up there with gary moore, mark knopfler amd santana just to name a few.
I used to get stoned to this song back in the early '80's when I was studying in Switzerland. We all used to go out on a Friday night and get loaded and I used to sit on my balcony room with my mates overlooking Lake Geneva with all the pretty lights and put this on. I heard it again a few weeks back driving back from Lincoln with my daughter, and wow, memories flooded back! Have not touched any funny tobacco for nearly 30 years now, and hardly drink anymore. But in that brief moment, when listening to it in the car, I was back in those wonderful times. And I really get it now, more than I did then when was a pot head after a night out. Life experience eh? Thanks for a fab song.
Switzerland and pot....you had it lucky. Bradford and Tetleys for me.......still great song. Never hear this on the radio, that's the BBC for you.....oh don't get me started........where's the Tetleys?.......nurse......
This song was played on my dad funeral, i miss him sm, he was my bestfriend.. happy fathersday and hope to see you soon. I love you more than anything dad 💙💙💙
Snowy played with Peter, and after Peter left FM he left all his belongings with snowy in a Flat on the Richmond Road. , inc Greeny his guitar. He had tapes of his practicing with Mac and Bluesbreakers. One day peter called round and took them and a tape recorder to a charity shop and just left them. They have never surfaced, so someone probably just recorded over them !
Bird of Paradise -- Lyrics Saw you flying by Flash of Turquoise Blue I just had to try To keep your life in view My bird of paradise Sweet bird of paradise Wish that I could fly I'd be beside you now But I can only sigh And watch you circle round My bird of paradise Sweet bird of paradise My bird of paradise Sweet bird of paradise My bird of paradise So you fly away When will you come again So I can watch you play In the pouring rain My bird of paradise Sweet bird of paradise My bird of paradise Sweet bird of paradise My bird of paradise
3.24 - fantastic solo. Peter Green influence in all the silences that aren't filled with pointless twiddles. Great recording. A favourite then and now.
I can see the Peter Green influence too. I hadn't really thought of that before, but I see what you mean. This is a wonderful recording. The guitar playing is simple (non of that up and down the neck shredding nonsense) but yet powerful and full of emotion.
I have a huge love for the album - Now That’s What I Call Music! Vol 2 This is on it - Bird Of Paradise is a classic and filled with nostalgia - sounds uncannily like Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits 🎶👏🏻
I was 11 when this was released. In those days my mum would listen to the radio all weekend with a tape recorder ready to go! She would play back her tapes on week mornings as she got ready for work. She recorded this song once and, no matter how young or old you are, its mesmerizingly beautiful. One thing though, the radio DJ who introduced it, after the third line of the song "I just had to try" the DJ added the words "Too Right Son" in a deep and cheesy voice. And for years I thought it was actually a part of the song. Even now I can't forget it. Songs which take me back to those days....
when I was a little kid my father bought me an mp3.He put in many songs including this.I turned on that mp3 after 8 years. Now im 17 years old and i feel very lucky for growing up with songs like this
One of the greatest rock ballads to come out of the magical 80's. A timeless classic. This is a music! This kind of rock ballad and electric guitar solo is so reminiscent of a Dire Straights ballad. I think if Dire Straight had no over-shadowed Snowy White in the 80's he would have gained more world wide popularity.
Yes! And Brothers in Arms was released in 1985. I have very much appreciation and respect for Mark Knopfler, he is a real gentleman, but some of the music that recorded sounded like someone else’s music. I also find great similarity in Calling Elvis to a JJ Cale’s song.
My bird of paradise...Sweet bird of paradise..Miss you my lovely uncle ... I will never forget you my uncle..You'll always in my heart 😔😢..I love youuu❤❤❤
Can't believe I never heard this song or the band . .. being in the music business for 30 years That is one of the sweetest Les Paul tones I ever heard . .. thanks Mr. K
Non mainstream quality music is what we lack today. This is very gentle to the ears, the lyrics has no shake asses and etc. Good example to the new generations what music is.
Even then it was rare to have a blues ballad in the Top 10. Snowy continued to release quality material up til last year's Something On Me but hardly anyone noticed. And there are young players all over the scene (struggling now, obviously).
What a load. All you have to do is show your stuff to them. My daughter liked Jimi Hendrix and the Doors and she did not find them until 1995 and wrecked half my cassetes by over recording on them and scratching the heck out of my vinyl. Then I took her and her friend to see the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. I also just found out just how good JJ Cale really is and at 64 I feel like I missed a bit as he is a real long time influencing entertainer who wrote some fantastic songs that have been covered by heaps of famous people. We in Australia heard very little of him and the likes of Van Morrison. Another entertainer I have flogged to death recently, gotta love you tube.
Played Irish trad, cowboy chords for years, singing all the beat out numbers. Made the jump to electric around a year ago, bought a 50s Les Paul Tobacco Burst. I play blues every single day now. My inspiration? Showy White! One of the most underrated players ever. If you read this, Snowy, against all odds, thank you!
I never get tierd of listening 2 this beatiful great amazing song since the 1st time i heard it,& that is some years ago now👍👌👍♥️💖💎🌹✌️🥇🎸🌟🕊...So thank u so mutch Snowe white 4 ur great song & ur beatiful sing voice🎤🎸
For those who are saying that it sounds like Brothers in arms....the album of dire straits was released in 1985 but the song was written in 1982 after the Falkland war... Check the English wikipedia of the song you'll see !
