Alright...what do you guys think of Netflix's Attempt at One Piece? You holding out hope or is it gonna be another bad attempt at an adaptation. Let ya boy know
I am going to go out on a limb and say that the adaptation will be good. Not perfect, but good. It will be fun. But the segment of the fans that are impossible to please will criticize it to death over middling details. I think the show's biggest challenge will be deciding on where to cut off their narrative. There's no feasible way to get this show to adapt the entirety of the source material. Even if their succeed in majorly condensing each saga into a season, there's just no way this can be some 10+ year journey. It's just not practical. I think adapting through Marineford is honestly the best case scenario. More likely, we're probably better to hope for a 3 season thing, 4 if this takes off. So it's really crafting a narrative in a way that still feels satisfying. Hopefully avoiding any temptation to end any season on a massive cliffhanger.
@@jonathanfrancesco3305 It has the showings so far to be good but I won’t say it will be just yet. I’m going into it with 0 expectations. And other people in the comments were wondering where it’s going to cut off as well. For S1 it’s supposed to cutoff at Arlong Park but we don’t know what’ll happen with future seasons IF it even gets them. This show is also really expensive to make so I know Netflix is going to want an instant return on profit once it drops. Of course there are going to be fans that rip into it simply because it exists but I’m playing it by ear to see what this live action can achieve
If you keep your expectations so low you'll probably end up loving it. I find that expectations have more to do with how something is received than it's adherence to arbitrary quality criteria.
There’s truth to that but the quality has to match. People went into Cyberpunk Edgerunners expecting really nothing and came out of it not only loving the show but then playing the game. Also explain what you mean by “arbitrary quality criteria” curious on what that’s supposed to entail
@@leonbrando9892 by that I mean ..when people have a preconceived bias for or against something they will create criteria never used before..or never used in that way before...to justify the opinion they made before they even saw it. . Because I keep seeing it happen with beloved franchises my theory is that it has something to do with no visual media ever being able to compete with the rose tinted view of yesteryear nor human imagination. . That is not to say this live action One Piece definitely won't be garbage because it just might. It just seems to me that most people...or rather the most vocal people... have already decided it's going to suck before seeing it. And whatever from the trailers they base that one seems kinda arbitrary to me. . IDK if I've explained what I was trying to say or just ended up confusing you even more ( that seems to happen a lot when people ask me to expand on shit lol). But if you still don't quite understand wtf I mean don't feel bad... it's not you.
@@Antifag1977 I see what you mean. Thing is with anime adaptations. And I remember talking to someone else about this on my last live action vid. But weebs have been burned so many times on adaptations that if they hear about it. They instantly write it off. ESPECIALLY if it comes from Netflix because it’s a meme at this point with Netflix messing things up. I at least will always give a trailer a watch before I judge out of the sake of fairness. Even if I know it might be garbage I still do it. I even waited to do a video on One Piece to see if they’d make another trailer before it drops. And with all the research and things I found out. It looks hopeful that it could be good but I’m not holding my breath. And I understand what you mean don’t worry lol. I just wanted to see if you could add more to it for anyone including me could see what you had in mind. Thanks for the comment and I appreciate you taking the time to explain!
Here's my take on live action One Piece, it should've been done as a miniseries with the straw hats, some returning side characters, but mostly have original antagonists and some new side characters, like a non canon anime movie/gaiden story. Because even if Netflix doesn't just choose to cancel the series on a whim after the first season (as it often does) One Piece's length and also its escalation in terms of power/locations make a complete live action version of the manga/anime unfeasable. Now while I don't expect the makers of the show are under any delusions they'd finish it either; I have trouble thinking of where they would be able to stop early. Now there probably are several great places to stop early that I'm not thinking of; it still means that they'd be making a series with an open ending, which I think many casual viewers wouldn't be fans of. Still weird how the One Piece adaptation seems to be getting a more realistic/serious adaptation than the source whilst Cowboy Bebop got a more cartoonish/campy adaptation from the source though. Also as an aside two things about the video itself, one I had to check if live action High School DxD was actually being made, because I'm beginning to lose track of anime/cartoons/video games getting adaptations. My second thought is a question: what background music were you using. While I recognized FF music, I was having trouble placing all of the tracks, and I'm gonna be racking my brain/search history trying to remember.
Oh no that DxD thing was just a bit. But that’d be hilarious if it were to be a thing lol. But yeah I’ve watched the One Piece trailer a bunch. More times than I thought but that’s due to making the video and it does look better than what we’ve received in the future. I know for the 8 episodes that we’re going to get at the end of the month, it’s supposed to stop at Arlong. As for my background music(which I may need to start listing in the comments going forward) are these -Simpsons Hit N Run-Monkey See Monkey D’oh -Jet Set Radio-Humming the Baseline -Persona 3-This Mysterious Feeling -Final Fantasy X-Battle Theme -Final Fantasy 7 Remake-Tifa’s Theme -Final Fantasy X-2-Eternity-Memory of Lightwaves
@leonbrando9892 Thanks for the music, it was FFX2 I was trying to place! Also they might be intending to stop at Arlong, but given things like the recent Good Omens show were initially intended to be only one season (as they adapted the entire book) but they went back and made a season 2 anyway. I haven't seen it, I've heard mixed thoughts, but honestly even if I heard glowing things, the fact that it couldn't be made with Sir Teddy Pratchett just makes me sad.* Admittedly with One Piece, my favorite villain is Crocodile. I know, what a shocker, somebody with my username loves Crocodile (doesn't hurt Earth is my favorite elemental power) so I kinda want to see him done, of course provided he's done well. *Not mad at Neil Gaiman for making a season 2, I just remember some of my favorite parts of the book were Terry's additions. Besides, it's not like Pratchett himself was overseeing the adaptation, he tragically died, then the studio sold the show to some guy who hated the franchise and turned it into a weird cynical steam punk mess against the wishes of Terry Pratchett's surviving daughter....sorry I had to rant about BBC America's "THE Watch".
@@CrocvsGator It’s all good. Can rant away if you’d like, don’t have to apologize lol and yeah that’s what the supposed stopping point is Arlong. 8 episodes but it really all depends on how Netflix wants to handle it and the reception from viewers. I know with the current WGA/SAG strike that’s definitely going to halt things for the foreseeable future for production
The only thing a bad adaptation does that i hate is it curb stomps the possibility of seeing that IP ACTUALLY come to life. If this bombs, one piece will never get another chance and i personally would love to see things like sabaody, enies lobby, and the paramount war be realized. But this has to do good for a while before that
And because Oda is so invested in it. In a recent video on Netflix where Ińaki Goody went to meet Oda. Oda is very big on the cast, he sees them as the most believable. Especially for Luffy
I know when the Trash Taste boys were looking at footage for Bebop, people were wondering what their real reactions were once they weren’t getting paid lol
@@cwega2463 I know that lol. I’m saying what the people are saying. But people did say from the jump that it didn’t look good then warmed up to it…then the show came out and ended up being worse than anyone imagined it to be
@@leonbrando9892 i’m just super excited for it :)) they just had a premier about a few hours ago for the fans and it has also been praised. my hopes are so high now tbh 😭
Anime (animation in general) is already the ultimate art form (be it 3d, hand drawn, ETC). Manga gives you the picture, Anime moves them in however your imagination power could go. There's no human limitation, which already shown in some of the fight I saw from the trailer. The most they can do is 'okay' at best, and it's fine. But ye doesn't mean people have to hate it and say it ruins the original cause u know, just watch the original?
Oh I forgot, it doesn't matter the genre, you try zom100 in live action, then look at the anime, look at the marvelous artistry, the voice acting, the soundtrack, it's just overall much more awesome. Kaguya-sama Love is War tried it as a romcom (should be easy right?) Naw it's cringe AF. The wig the acting, just doesn't feel right.
Yeah I always thought it was the wildest thing that people would say “Oh they’re ruining my favorite series” as if the OG doesn’t exist. If it upsets anyone that bad then go back to the original lol
@@nemnymeria7873 Zom 100 has such an AMAZING anime adaptation I’m blown away. I knew it was going to be good but to be THAT good? Is insane. So happy it turned out for that. And as for Kaguya. Kaguya is such an animated rom com that it relies heavily on visuals and makes use of it being in an animated space that trying to capture that energy in live action was going to make it look weird as hell
I agree. I even said that in my last vid that they’d have an easier time doing that vs the more overly ambitious things but the overly ambitious high fantasy or big action Shonens have a much bigger following
