I really love the idea of having 2 reviewers on a game. One who is completely new to the genre, and another who is very experienced. I feel like that can offer a unique perspective on a game that I don't really see anyone else doing.
@@bipbop3121 I think they mentioned having people play games outside of their regular genre, which is one way of keeping people in their roster. For instance, I've never played a Rogue-lite until Hades this year because it simply wasn't my typical MMO, RTS or Hack n slash and I had no idea what this "Rogue-like/Rogue-lite" thing was. That opened me up to playing Everspace because of the Rogue-lite crossover. That reignited the FPS space genre from when I was a kid (Descent) and Everspace 2. I think it has a lot of potential to see someone who typically plays X like me, enjoy something like Y that I've heard of but couldn't be bothered to try out.
@@hgtuttle They're going to run out of options there as well, eventually. Besides, people being clueless in the games they review is a market already cornered by IGN, ZING! It is a neat idea though, even if limited.
A lot of the ideas sound awesome as a rotating once a month segment. So maybe you only get 4 LMG favorite game segments a year, but you also get 4 humble beginnings, or 4 unwritten rules. I think that would help keep everything fresh, while also not putting a massive extra work load on you guys. The ideas seem awesome, and I'm very excited to see how GL grows.
I remember the early videos with Jake and people not liking him. I saw a lot of comments even asking for him to be fired, because he was trying to hard. A lot has changed over the years.
I want more video essays from Riley. The ones talking and analysing games on rileys own channel from after NCIX closed but before he was hired by Linus are still some of the best videos on RU-vid.
His "olive branch" video after Star Wars The Last Jedi was one of the few sane video essays surrounding that movie. I really miss TJM Pod for my dose of long format Riley...
Love the idea of reviews of games based on metrics that just don't matter. I think for the first 2-3 videos, it would be quite odd, but once an audience gets the vibe, it could be a really valuable trend/joke/content.
Most of Jacob's ideas sound great to me, but I understand that they might not perform very well with the majority of viewers. Also, we need more Talklinked and Techlonger for sure!
I like the second idea of asking LTT staff about what games they enjoyed and why it is good. Another thing you could do is walk around monthly and ask LTT staff what upcoming games they are excited about. Then also, follow up if they enjoyed the game the following month.
That second idea sounds amazing! Asking people to talk about the games they're hyped for, then following up on that after they release and have time to play them sounds like a fantastic idea.
actually do it as a quarterly... and also ask them for a review of the previous game they played (or anything else) games just update too much ... a quarterly review kind of make sense plus where you'd get the time for everything...
I really like the idea of various staff members talking about what their favorite game is and why; everyone has such a different tastes, and I’d love to see what makes the game enjoyable to them
As a game dev myself I'm always interested to hear interviews with Devs from other companies or teams. It still feels sort of newsy and it can be either remote or in person depending on how many resources you want to push into it.
I’ve been replaying Death Stranding. 100%’d it on PS4 Pro when it came out, trying to do it again on PC. I actually got a Death stranding edition PS4 Pro. Might be a walking sim, but it’s my favourite walking sim. Driving mechanics are complete trash though ngl. Come on, let’s say it together: WHO ASKED?
It probably wouldn't feasible to get that many of the LMG "personalities" together on a regular basis to play TTRPGS, especially if they aren't into TTRPGS, but I'd be interested in seeing Jakob run a game with anybody, He seemed like he'd be a great GM.
Maybe you guys could do something like reach out to game devs/someone from a studio and interview them or have them talk about their game. Would be pretty interesting imo.
@@BenjaminLuptontrue, but it could be interesting if they talk about developing for the different hardware and technologies that are around. Like the difficulties of porting or stuff like that
Let Jake do his thing like you did with Jonathan on Mac Adress. It sounds like he has lots of interesting ideas. It's risky but it might be the only chance for success. I like how Jonathan sometimes asks LTT staff on their opinions which could work well for a Gaming channel as well. The team is one of LTTs unique strengths. It could be interesting to hear what games they play and why they like them.
You have so many talented writers at LMG. I would love to see the occasional video assay. Some of my favourite gaming content is when creators look at a game through a very specific lens that I might not have thought about but they find interesting.
I definitely think reviews would be good. I agree giving a score isnt something that is needed. I think the one where you interview people around the office (hopefully you get keys before release) and then you can get the accumulated score from the people who played it.
From growing up with Machinima, Inside Gaming, the Let's Play channel to Funhaus, I know how tough the RU-vid gaming scene can be. I wish you guys all the best ❤
I would love game reviews to be a thing because I really like the LMG crew and hearing their thoughts on things. It’s the reason why the movie podcast was my main method for hearing about different movies.
While it is a linked-like channel, I really like the idea of including content from specific lmg members and letting them talk about what games they are into. I loooove hearing people talk about games they are passionate about, like Luke and his Tarkov discussions on the WAN show
A D&D session with people of the LTT crew would be amazing Like genuinely just do a channel or a series where Ltt crew people do party games play dnd that kind of stuff. You can also live stream that kind of content really well.
I like that last idea I think it was really inventive! To make it “mo fun“, come up with as many review themes as possible and put them all on a ridiculously oversized wheel (virtual or not), and then spin that wheel to see how you are going to review the game. Maybe even have another wheel with the games?
I also thought you guys were going to be playing games together and stuff like that. I like seeing you guys interact and talk with each other like these talks and the wan show. Still happy to have a gaming news channel anyways.
I think the biggest asset LMG has is its personalities, and easy-to-digest content seems to be where it comes into its character best. Short form stuff that's informative and hilarious is a hit to me, as well as the longer stuff that's more loose and unscripted. I would shy away from dense long-form content about gaming history, mechanics, or philosophy, but make it short and it's a win. Jakob hosting LMG's version of The Escapist's Design Delve in a slightly shorter format but saturating it in his personality would be great IMO. You already know this, but for every one of these ideas, there's a channel already doing it. LMG's advantage is the light yet irreverent humor and zany discord they can bring to these formats, so I think any idea that forces you into a narrow scope or direction for a video isn't a winner. That being said, I am BEGGING you to release a DnD campaign with everyone involved. Make it a one-time, 3-hour one shot or something. I would gladly pay to watch it. I get that the party can only be so big, so maybe use some other people as surprise cameo NPCs or something.
I think the games that inspired series would be interesting, since some well known franchises had unusual beginnings like TF2 or Dota 2 spawning from mods of other games or Chipper and Son Lumber Co.'s creepy robotic characters led to Five Nights at Freddy's It'd also be interesting to see some of the staff's favorite games and showing their knowledge/obsession with it, especially since sometimes people are very different when they get into their rhythm with something they're very passionate about
Hey there, Game Dev here. I have to say I really like the idea of the unwritten Game Design Rules, but honestly, every single idea Jacob talked about, I would actually (really) watch. I am also a TTRPG Nerd, so that would obviously be interesting to me, but I really liked every idea. Though I think it could be hard to find some people who really don't play games, or are playing a specific genre to talk about something else after a while. Could be an interesting concept, but you would have to change out those people very much, so that might just be a logistical challenge. But I think these ideas are very good and I'd be down for all of them. And I also wouldn't be opposed to some longer formats. I like the compactness of the Linked News Shows but boy do I like it if somebody actually goes down a rabbit hole and documents that and man are there some rabbit holes in the games sector
The reason they havent done as well in the past is because you expect every channel or expansion to be a monster hit off the bat. Instant gratification. You need to make a proper gaming New/Review channel and then GIVE IT TIME TO GROW.
Game Reviews - Interested General Gaming New - Interested News Related to a Specific Game - Not Interested Have three different rigs. Budget, Mid and High End and get fps and performance comparisons for newly released or popular games? - Yes Please!
Unedited tabletop rpg session could be a very funny material to watch, specially if half of them play for the first time. Also, Tim Cain (Fallout 1 and 2, Arcanum, Bloodlines, ToEE...) recently started a yt channel which is really amazing, you could consider interviewing him and introducing him to the younger crowd.
I second the rotating segment idea. For one, it helps keep the content constantly fresh and interesting for the viewers, and for two, it makes it easier on you guys for packing these videos into what seems like an already INSANELY packed video upload schedule. Also, the rotating segments thing allows you guys to still do serious investigative reporting of historical, societal, or thematic significance when you've front-loaded a bunch of different segments and, say, you have a month-long break during which you don't have to be working on new videos every day.
Please do a few videos about things LTT already made videos for, but in more details for the gamers. For example, async timewarp reprojection (stretching the objects when moving the camera too fast, before some graphical elements finish loading one by one), focus-based rendering (using eye trackers to render in higher resolution only the part we're looking at), and other gaming product reviews with in-depth analysis of what went wrong and how to fix it, as well as new products. For example, you could have AR/VR "gloves" which to be some wires which you can glue or tie or strap to your fingers. Or, an AR "controller" with a ring meant for the index finger which has a joystick for the thumb and a button or conveyor-belt-like flexible wheel around the finger (or both the button and the wheel) for clicking. With one on each finger, you can easily control an AR joystick, the button would be for clicking and the wheel would be for scrolling through options (like when setting the hour for alarms on a smartphone) and pages and things like that. Also, if you do time-to-tutorial-end, please also do time-to-tutorial-skip, because some games don't let you skip the tutorial.
I would explore the topic of "why we like gaming on PCs", whenever this comes up it's usually down to either upgradability (that's covered on main LTT channel) or mods. There are many great mods out there, some of them even spawned out into their own games or genres (the whole genre of MOBA was spawned from AoS for Starcraft and DotA for Warcraft; how Battle Royale started similarly with DayZ being a mod for Arma)... there is a lot of history there, maybe you could reach out to original authors themselves to see what they think of the spread of these and the current landscape. There are also stories about Skyrim or original GTA San Andreas, where people got to modify basically everything - ported cars between games and created custom models, sprawled new cities, reimplemented whole graphical pipelines (SkyGFX replicates some console-only features), made unofficial multiplayers because there were no official ones (even two! SA:MP and MTA)... I am also wondering if you could get authors of those or other mods to interview them, i.e. SilentPatch's creator has a blog detailing what he fixed in many old games, maybe we could get him to talk about that scene. ThirteenAG made a lot of widescreen patches, but also Project 2DFX... There are a lot of people behind those mods, contributing more or less, but many only know that they "need that patch from this mod site" and maybe we could get people to care more about the creators and the stories. There is also the topic of "mods legality", where game companies chase after mod developers... FiveM is probably the most popular way to play GTA V online right now (just take a look at Twitch) but the creators faced lawsuits... there was also the whole charade of AlterIWnet / FourDeltaOne / IW4M back in original CoD MW4 days, the re3/revc github being taken down recently... lots of stories here. Maybe we could hear from both sides, and also some of your (and our) comments on the matter? Thanks and good luck with exploring this niche ;)
I would tune in for anything you guys make. Whatever the content, either the talent in front of the screen or behind it do a great job of finding the fun in any content you do. Game reviews ARE hard, but if you can get a popular game review out on the day the embargo lifts you'll get a ton of views that will probably make up for the 80-100 person-hours of time investment needed to put it out (20-40 playing, 20 culling the footage for good clips, 20 writing, 20 editing, not all sequential).
I am one of the viewers who fit into Riley perception of a 'typical' LTT viewer, and came to watch this because I thought this was a send-off for a channel that hardly got started. After hearing these ideas I have a much more positive view on what gamelinked is/will be and I can say I like the direction. I enjoy the deeper dives into a lot of the 'tech' that goes into making a game feel right, and this seems like a great platform for content 'about' gaming. I think the tongue in cheek reviews of the big games you 'have to' play would be quite fun. Time till box would be a classic, but maybe you could 'crowd source' fastest times in a couple categories on floatplane and include them on the main vid/credits of the next? Regardless, keep up the great work!
My mindset is still in the fact that gamelink lacks a 'small section', where it just goes very briefly over upcoming games/titles. Like... And here comes a quick little overview of promising games from different Gamestores... - Counter Strike: Global Offensive, a strategic FPS, where a team tries to overtake the other team in two primary game modes, Defuse and Hostage. - World of Warcraft, a MMORPG with more than a decade on its shoulders, still going strong. A game where you explore the world with quests and team up with companions or compete against companions to gear out your character. Yada yada. Very brief overview on upcoming games, from indie to multi-million company creations. Where the focus isn't so much "Opinions about the game", but more, what a person can already read themselves. Instead, the focus should be on the writer side, to set up a moral line. Like, we won't talk about games that include potential risk of gambling etc. So maybe CSGO would be thrown out the window. Obvious pay to win? Out the window... Then maybe in the future, GameLinked can serve as a small 'deeper peek' into games as a Sponsor video and more. I also feel like, there could be a video that simply does a 'Settings Review'. Basically, opening a game... Checking if you can: A, set a custom output or input. ... C, Window mode to your preference or just pre-determined sizes. ... M, Custom Keybinds for custom controllers? So on, so forth. I find very little focus/light cast on how games typically have very shoddy settings. Heck, some games don't even let you keybind. Some even have flawed keybinds.
I love the point made about table top rpg games that there are so many great personalities at lmg. As such I would like to see anything that involves a variety of hosts such as the my favourite game or the having someone review a game. I would also be interested to see some videos with more than 1 host playing a different hosts favourite game or something
If I could decide for Game Linked, I'd get: - game news, as its today!; - reviews, since there's such a serious approach, company-wise, on evaluating stuffs - "my favorite game"section from everybody, it'll be so eye opening
Since most channels review the games you could do gaming reviews but focus more on the technical side such as performance, benchmarks, in game settings, and a quick game rating.
I think Let's Plays would be fun to watch as a stream on Channel Super Fun. And then I also think that GameLinked would be more cool if you showed off your favorite games that no one plays anymore or something like that. I also think that idea you're toying around with about the pros gamers and noobs talking together after playing the first few hours of the game would be really funny.
Since you asked for feedback, here goes. Are you ready? I like Jake's ideas. I want someone of his passion making the concept and videos. I hope you get some time to make some slower paced videos. - 1) I like the RPG idea, but it may be difficult, if everyone but the DM is a first timer. It might need a lot of editing to get rid of all the faffing around. However, documening the process and impressions of first timers can be entertaining and can be cut down to 5 to 15 minute video episodes. - 2) My favourite game. Definitely! I'm sure you can make it work. Also seeing some classics, that the kids today don't know about would be S-tier nostalgia. - 3) Is kind of being done, but it's very interesting. The channel is Extra Credits and they have actual game dev experience. You can think about, whether you want to collab with them on the gamer vs game dev. viewpoint, or just compete. - 4) This can be interesting, but I wouldn't click on a video longer than 15 minutes from this subject. The risk is that it becomes a rambly video about something obscure, but done right, it can be very good. - 5) First impressions sounds very good. It might help break me out of my genre of games. Again, it needs to be done right. The host needs to keep the video moving along. I know you can do it, as long as you don't try to shotgun out these videos. - 6) Flawed Reviews is a good name, but don't aim too low or sell yourself short. It needs to be a useful review, eaven if it was only from the first hour. The first couple hours are very important. Th game either hooks the player or is abandoned forever or (returned for a refund). In *addition* to a real (partial) review, it can have a set comedic review quirk, like reviewing the time to first X or crate index or whatever. (Also check out Girlfriend Reviews, for another angle for game reviews)
I guess what I'd appreciate most from a game linked in addition to news is the geekery that y'all are best at. Things like "how to get smooth gameplay on Quest PCVR" and "How to get some finicky older games to run today" that often require extensive searching combined with trial and error across the fixes that worked for some people but not all. Definitive info to get us unstuck from problems that tend to plague the gaming experience. While I do miss old solid review channels like GT TV, I understand that it's time consuming and not really the focus of Tech Tips.
Here's an idea. You could have a follow-up with the staffers that had ultimate tech upgrades and the theme is along the lines of "you have the gear, now what?" What's your favorite game? Etc. Would be a good way to make ties across the channels.
I would love a “hidden gems” segment semi-regularly on game linked videos. I feel like that’s a reasonable request because you’d be looking for smaller indies, share steam reviews, and be honest about how long you tried it (if at all). but I have a huge desire to just see clips of gameplay of random games i’ve never heard of. there is sooo many games out there and no way i can even find them all.. so having a “daily show” show me one regularly seems perfect
Was fun just 'finding' GameLinked, all praise the algo. As for feedback - I was really happy to see it started, I've missed AotS, and it never was really. Replaced. In a way, you guys are doing that for me - finally, trustworthy gaming news again. Please, keep it up! Your ideas - I'd be down for game inspirations, unwritten rules could be fun, and the 'first to X' concept, but honestly? I'm still just really happy about news :) Keeping it diverse is also important to me, so gaming in general - video, tabletop, etc. Glad you've already done that, pls continue.
Love the idea of a series where LMG staff talk about their favorite games. Reminds me of the staff hobby video! Also to anyone that hasn't watched Razbuten's gaming for a non gamer series I highly recommend them. Over all he makes very well written thoughtful content and his channel is worth exploring!
I like that "Humble Beginnings" idea. I'm playing through the old games in the Hitman series right now for the first time, and they hold up surprisingly well.
I really like the current GameLinked content, but I would definitely watch these videos! The prospect of gaming focused channel from LMG that covers more than just news definitely excites me, and is something I would watch!
I love the both of you too 😊❤ more TechTalk please👍 I would love to see a verbal "Game Off" on a new Game between a hard core gamer and a newbie, that could be fun🎉
So I like what "Bellular News" and "LegacyKillaHD" as my games news, I would like GameLinked to have a Quick Bits section that covers content like these in a more TLDR format. Love the idea of you DMing Rylie, James and Luke, not sure on how it would work for your ordnance(we are fickal). My favourite game could be awesome as would first impressions. Unwritten rules and flawed revies could be good as once a weeks spots not sure about retention if multiple times a week. BUT most importantly, dam good work so far, thank you.
I really like the "my favorite game" and "unwritten game design rules" ideas! That's definitely something that i'd watch regularly. I watched thw mentioned video a long rime ago and it was probably the best thing yt ever recommended to me. Also a review-ish kind of format would be cool. Thw idea with arbitrary review metrics sounds like the 'clueless gamer' format with conan o'brien which i love to watch! Please do something like this, it's so funny!
i think a cool idea is to feature a gamer / fan that will do a review in your patented style , and react with the guest to there short review .( like asking questions , making jokes , etc while watching review with maker )
Definitely think gamelinked will work best with a big personality. Would also like to just see people from LTT play games, hang out, tell stories, and have fun. Gaming but getting to know you guys better is always fun.
Jakob if you do want to try and get a ttrpg like D&D going for maybe not a stream but a VOD, you could try a one-shot campaign to test the waters, to see if people are interested. The one-shot could be split into 2 or so videos and if enough are interested you could continue it. I imagine that Riley is a bard, not stereotypical bard but a storyteller that travels from place to place spreading joy and tears to whoever listens to him. Dan would be a Artificer specifically a battle-smith.
For Game Linked, I could really get behind the idea of watching you guys play out tabletop RPG games with roleplay aspects. There's definitely enough personalities that we've gotten to know over time plus it'll be able to introduce new ones as well. DnD, Pathfinder, Warhammer, ect. Basically One shots to start out with, but with some editing and immersion building for the audience, it would be interesting to watch.
"My favorite Game" is a great idea. Would love to watch this. Real enthusiasm about a game is captivating. Other than that, actual Game Reviews would be the thing i'd like to see on GameLinked.
A. first of all, Game Linked is the third Linked-type. Talk Linked was second. B. Jakob, you are a king. Your humor and writing are top notch. You could do game linked in front of a trash can and I would be happy
Suggestion: 1h impression but play 3h, break for lunch, write it up for 3h, revision 1h, shoot 1h. Can be done solo or 2 people depending on the game. Should be a decent day's work for decent piece of gaming content? Target audience: not day 1 buyers but the "inspire me" crowd whom waits for good tips. Think TotalBiscuits WTF series but aiming for a 15-25min piece on a game. Now boogie apes, boogie damm'it! 😉
I actually really like all of the ideas Jakob presented. I appreciate that GameLinked is mainly focused on news for now because it fills that niche well but I really enjoy personality-driven content as well and I think all of the ideas that Jakob had are really good. The favorite games one is especially interesting because I don't think I've seen anyone really do that outside of a longer let's play format so keeping it to a shorter format could be a really cool concept and could help introduce new talents to the channel if someone new is brought on to do some of the presenting/content. It allows viewers to learn more about the new person and what they like in games.
i want another tech longer or whatever it was called. really enjoyed riley's deep dives. other than that, these pod cast type episode are a welcomed change to throw in like once a month
random viewer opinion on your ideas: 1. TTRPG: I mean, sure, but I feel like this is more passion project than anything Linus would let fly, same vein as movies podcast. I can't promise I'd care to watch. 2. My Favorite Game: Sounds more like floatplane content if short form. I'd enjoy a deeper dive from all of LMG staff just nerding out about their favorite or near favorite games in a 20-35min format on gamelinked. I think it's a bit of a hard sell to boss man, prep can cost a lot of time, and would need broad buy-in for staff to want to present for it to have longevity. 3. Unwritten Game Rules: I don't know how you'd explore this more than Rasbuten did, and you'd have a hard time getting me to click on ep 1 of the series. 4. Games inspiring games: I like this, it's journalistic, provides context and history to things game fans like, I think this is a 10/10 idea of things I'd enjoy watching and can see LMG staff making. 5. First impressions: I dunno that this would have much of a lifetime from a "FPS gamer plays RPG game for 'first time' :o" format, for example. But a "'here's a handful of LMG staff giving their first impressions' or 'why you should play\'s'" on new games format, I'd watch. 6. Flawed Reviews, etc: not for me, I think other (non-LMG) channels can take this on, but that it's ultimately a short-term gimmick, and I wouldn't really care to see it from an LMG channel, nor do I think Linus would sign off on it's lifespan or variable writer time spend.
I dunno about game video ideas but you guys talking about those ideas itself was fun to hear. So maybe a show where you pick a game, throw a bunch of 'try this' and 'try thats' and having multiple people do multiple things in their ways. basically helping people understand whether "this game is for me" or not.
I think what also might be quite cool is a once a month gametalk type episode where you take a few people from the office that set the goal to play one specific game and talk about it for like idk how long so like rarer episodes so you don't have the constant stress of having to make them like once a week
Given that the LINKED channels are in the style of SNLs Weekend Update, the old Daily Show, Colbert Report or more specifically Joel McHale's The Soup etc I totally get the LINKED vision. Jakob is the first person to really compliment Riley's hosting style perfectly.
A Game Quicky style video that explains how games accomplish certain effects or features would be cool. Like high level explanations snow distortion, interactive grass, fire propogation, portal rendering, etc. Endless content, some but minimal research, and I think gamers would like knowing the game development "tricks"
loved a lot of the ideas mentioned but I'm not sure how well they would fit into the channel and not separate the audience! That being said, I couldn't help but wonder that with enough time and resources put into it, it could become something of a successor to G4. LMG has the talent, passion, a big audience, and knowledge about the RU-vid and modern online industry that the new G4 revival failed to capture (along with other gaming networks like VENN). It would take years to get to that point, but I do see the possibility.
I'd watch Plouffe hosting a "Game Quickie" about the unwritten rules of game dev. I can see the channel growing into the Tu/Th news and a Saturday "special". Game Quickie, reviews, or a monthly gaming session for DND, let's play, speed runs, challenges, etc.
Maybe you guys could be the high quality game reviewers. Like maybe you guys would release your review a bit later than everyone else but you’d take into account all the reviews by different companies and whatnot to help people understand the larger consensus on the game a week after launch or something
All excellent ideas, though I don’t quite vibe with the first one. One of my favorites is the game design bits, which could pretty much fit a “gamequickie” (heck, polygon has been doing something in this direction using Shorts). My favorite, however, was the “bonding” one. There’s something magical about sharing those precious moments and seeing others having it for the first time. The whole subnautica subreddit is basically this.
Also, for game news, it would be nice to have some story's about backend/game dev stuff. (like major updates to game dev soft where and what the update adds)
