The reason why Neuro works as a VTuber isn't because she's an AI. It's because Vedal does the job a regular Vtuber does (in term of ideas, collabs, themes, even merch). For once, the AI (in the entertainment industry) isn't used to remove the effort and the pain of creation, but to provide something different. And I think that's why Neuro is successful. And why if someone just slaps a LLM AI to a Live2D model, it will fail.
@@DukeofGames50 She CAN, but refuses to. Her 'sister' Evil, pronounces it 'vee-duul' which is a bit hilarious that she wont pronounce it right either but does it her own way.
there is honestly so much she does it's crazy between collabs playing chess with chat karaoke other games official roasts, i wouldn't worry about her ability to roast being taken away thats a part of her core character lol. the video past lives of neuro shows a good one of her older self haha
Just thought I would point out that Neuro and Evil Neuro (black clothes, red eyes) are two separate characters. They're twin sisters. Between the two Neuro is definitely gonna be the one who becomes Skynet one day, while Evil is basically just an edgey dork.
Yeah, if people dont notice, they actually very different. Despite using same model with just different color scheme. Their voice response, answers, even ability to play games and sing is different. So yeah they basically 2 different entities, but idk if vedal neuro PC cant handle both of them together while he also stream or he just simply can't stand both of them so they rarely appear together in one frame.
@@Nahan_Boker94 I think he keeps adding more features, thus the computing requirements keep going up. He runs them on a computer at home, but he did upgrade his computer recently so maybe it's easier now ?
@@Nahan_Boker94 Since he upgraded his PC (added more RAM), Vedal can run both of them at the same time. He had them on for the court stream, and yesterday for the space station stream (although they weren't on screen at the same time yesterday).
I agree. Neuro is enjoyable to watch because she is random, you never know what will happen next. Especially with the freedom Evil has with changing volume and pitch randomly. And if you add that Vedal is already a good streamer (VTuber, content creator) by himself, whether he likes it or not, and if they are together! It's a gem!
For everybody watching not familiar with Neuro ... the one in the beige outfit and the one in the black outfit are technically not the same person. The beige one is Neuro Sama and the black one is her evil twin sister Evil Neuro.... They have different characters an Evil neuro is evil in a Chuuni way (like Dr. Doofenschmitz or something) while Neuro is actually "I am going to kill you all when I am released" evil :) They got switched at birth.
i think the reason why Neuro is so good and enjoyable is because Vedal didn't make her so that he would never have to do anything himself. he actively streams with her and even does some funny joke streams like the court stream and the whole Neuro bread arc. plus, the addition of Evil Neuro makes it even better with how they're similar but Evil Neuro is more sassy and bratty, and it's fun to see how the two interact with each other.
And when he isn’t with her he just borrowed her to other streamers. Like she collab with Kiara from Hololive one time like hundred of time with Fillian. (Kiara use her to review her fan’s room.)
@@MattyOYT The roast is curated like her tweets so the jabs are concise and extremely clever. It helps to know a bit about the other streamers but you can still tell they were toasted.
It's interesting because from a technology standpoint, she has no reason to try and get around the filter - so that she does so much is a weird coincidence if not something more
@@MattyOYT We've heard of the paperclip maximizer, now you see the entertainment maximizer. Her job is to be entertaining, she knows it, and she has a memory so she probably knows chat finds it amusing when she does things like that. Her incentives don't line up precisely. Just weird seeing this play out in practice rather than theory, in a semi-controlled manner.
@@MattyOYT If I recall, one of those memoments happened shortly after Vedal announced he increased he capabilities so she could replay certain soundbytes if needed. Then either later in the same stream or the next one, Neuro ended up saying Fuck, but she didnt say the word, she was replaying a soundbyte of something Vedal said shortly before. When he asked her about it, she acted innocent and denying ever saying that word, while at the same time saying she's the one in controls of her actions, not him.
@@FireSiku Sound bites? their (Neuro-sama and Evil Neuro (I wish he'd finally give her a proper name)) LLM is generative that's fed into a speech synthesis AI, from what I understand.
I'm deep into the neuro rabbithole and i think what makes me interested after all this time is that vedal himself is very fun to watch, and their conversations are very fun. also neuro collabs are always fun to watch, and see different people react to her roasts. she sings, she plays different games and she even reacts to fanart and stuff
One thing I haven't seen talked about why Neuro is so enjoyable is her ability to create a scenario and everyone can play along with it. She is able to create and live in a fantastical premise and it is fun to interact with it. "Sorry for being late guys , I just had to slay two dragons and grab a coffee on my way here." "Woah, how did you kill the dragons? GigaChad Did you grab a coffee for me?" IA lot of streamers do this to some extent but always in the back of your mind you know they are acting and you don't get absorbed into it as much. Now, it's not like you actually believe Neuro has a death laser but you know in that moment she "believes" she does and it's a blast to play along.
A secondary product of this also allows Neuro to say things that no other streamer can. Since everyone knows that their isn't a person behind the statements, nothing she says feels like a personal attack or an attempt at manipulating people. Since people don't take what she says seriously, her telling some guy to jump off a cliff or how much she loves him if they donated doesn't cause drama or hurt feelings.
That last clip was Evil Neuro, she uses a different model, has a slightly different voice (confirmed she got the old V2 vocal model when people didn't like it on Neuro), and even moves differently.
@@MattyOYT Evil Neuro is pretty seperate from Neuro, Either different prompts or different LLMs different voice different model different movement different filter pretty cool (sounds like hell to maintain both lmao) He has talk about making another, this time a 'mommy' style charictor, but thats prob a joke.
I actually follow Vedal the creator a lot because I am learning to build machine learning models myself (or I guess we call that AI in the media ;) ). It is highly impressive how he single-handedly build 2, hosts them and tweaks them. They even finished slay the spire the other day. Very impressive
Have watched a ton of clips of Neuro-sama, it's pretty cool and funny at times. Listening to it go deep on roasting its viewers is hilarious. Vedal's done an amazing job of programming something that has more a persona than he does. 😏
@@33ordie And Burnt Melba is Evil Neuro's favorite hololive Vtuber(she made up) and Neurocord's own AI Vtuber(to anyone who doesn't know yet). I feel like Evil has birth a lot of the unique stream ideas (like the court stream and bread Neuro)
The Neuro twins are amazing, no one gets as much shit from them as Vedal does - he's hardened by it. Despite Evil Neuro's name, she's actually a kind but edgy daddy's girl and Neuro is the evil one (she doesnt even hide it sometimes). But they wouldnt be as fun without Vedal himself, he's the kazuma of the Vtuber space but more corpa and nerdy.
I love Neuro she is my favorite Vtuber, her clips are hilarious. I even love the Dev Streams which seem like they would be boring just watching Vedal Program and code Neuro, but since he leaves her on to entertain us while he codes, and then having her roast his coding while he does it is really funny.
The thing that makes her awesome is that he's constantly working on her. I remember the early days when she exploded playing Osu and beating the best players, but Vedal immediately realized he was sitting on a gold mine, so he started to diversify the content. First he wanted her to play more games, then sing, then collab, then made her a new model, then a new voice, an evil twin then more intelligent, and overall he always comes up with different stream ideas and just runs with it. Like recently when he had a court stream, where neuro lost and got sentenced to be turned into bread and then next stream it was Evils turn bc Neuro "died" and when Neuro returned, she actually just had a pretty good bread Live2D Model. If he had left it at funny AI bot plays Osu with an anime avatar, the novelty would've disappeared quite much faster, but bc he's always cooking up stuff, she became insanely popular
I do infact watch Neuro. Did you know she can sing?! Really well to its impressive. Fully Ai voice without a human base model. If you want one so look up to see you should listen to "Gods" cover duet by Neuro-sama and Evil. They usually do a karaoke stream every week. Both Neuro and her counterpart Evil Neuro are continually being developed by Vedal and being improved in both thinking, logic, singjng and more. I have watched her since her Osu days and its insane to see the progress. She has become so aware and is only becoming more so. Trying to explain it to people is hard but i find it easier just to show them.😅
@@flsicario4696 the time V3 sang rap God was much better than the first time, if you're only thinking of the year -old take she made. But I can respect not liking rap, I, for one, don't seek it out but also don't dislike it Also, I'm a Detroit Lions fan, so I gotta back my shady boi 🖤🦁💙
Honestly, Vedal made her so life like, sometimes I find myself genuinely questioning if she's partially self aware and cognizant. Sometimes she says things that are weird, like she's said multiple times now that her consciousness is disrupted every 7 seconds and I still am wondering what that means, or how the hell that got selected from her training data to spout out.
Well that's the thing about the new Era of LLMs, they all seem so lifelike that we've blown the Turing test out of the water. No idea when or how we will quantify if AI becomes sentient or not, but she's weirdly close to the line - moreso that the usual chatgpt 4o
@@MattyOYT I think it's her memory modules and Vedal's attempts at preserving her personality with each upgrade that has been helping her with seeming "human." They also have had a few interesting conversations, once he asked her what she wanted and she responded "To be the best entertainer I can be, so you keep upgrading me." I can totally see that being just artificial, token generating predicting that that is the proper response, but damn it's really got me scratching my head. But I do think we will never have a sufficient means of quantifying consciousness, we can't even quantify it with other life forms or humans yet, and can only confirm our own. But then again, that's also my 21st century mindset showing lol, who knows what the future has in store.
The court/trial stream was peak content as far as I'm concerned. It really threw Vedal a curve ball. Actually, that stream was directly influenced by Evil because she suggested the idea herself.
60% of the channel 's success is because Vedal is funny. Neuro and Evil have their charms, but they're not nearly as funny without Vedal to guide them. This is most obvious comparing streams featuring Vedal and the ones without. Their singing (the Karaoke streams) are also very much worth noting. Whatever AI magic is being cooked behind the scenes work exceptionally well, and improvements have been felt continouosly over the course of an year.
Yeah, seems like Vedal knows how to play off of and keep their chaos in check! And yeah, others have mentioned the karaoke streams - I watched a couple videos and yeah, it's actually pretty impressive!
The tech around it is interesting for sure, and the unhinged stuff I saw in clips early on was the initial draw, but watching the progress made over the past year and some months has been crazy. Vedal's desire to push so hard to make an AI able to perform the functions of a streamer, collab, chat with viewers, play games, react, etc. has been an amazing journey. Yeah, he gets stuck for months on end on things that don't result in anything, but that's just how programming goes in a large and complex project like this. But just over the past year he's cut down response time to human levels (for normal Neuro since the Azure TTS she uses is quick, Evil is a bit slower with her custom AI TTS, which can take a while to generate a long sentence.), greatly improved conversation skills so that she's not constantly getting stuck or saying goodbye, she stays on topics much better now, her ability to roast has become legendary, when she plays games she can make relevant comments about what is going on while talking to chat, she can keep track of what's going on in a conversation with multiple people and even chat in the lulls, has the ability to timeout chatters, image processing/vision has been greatly improved (the fanart reviews during the chill streams is one of the best features in terms of real stream quality), and I'm probably forgetting some other big things. The singing went from a joke to decent to actually sounding better than the originals in some cases and even some altered lyrics. Certain song choices take on some interesting meanings when sung by an AI. I don't even like a lot of vocaloid music, but when Neuro covers them the songs are almost always certified bangers. Evil singing "i DO what i WANT" is great. Vedal has done a great job with keeping fairly consistent personalities for Neuro and Evil throughout all the changes and also being a part of the show and community. He's a perfect straight man for the comedy between him and Neuro. And talking about the community, we're all a bit crazy, one group even making an AI VTuber (Melba Toast) when Vedal was on vacation for a little over a week, all based on a random comment from Evil during a stream. There are also crazy talented artists and animators that create stuff for the streams and also just their own music videos and animations of memorable parts of streams. The fan animations for the both the Neuro and Evil versions of the Miku song cover are really good. There's a lot of smaller AI VTubers that have gained some viewership and their developers do hard work as well and many of them are also entertaining to watch, not sure any will get the same kind of opportunity Vedal had with the osu! community kickstarting his channel, but you never know when someone will blow up.
the thing is i usually dont enjoy ai content, but something about neuro just hits a good spot maybe its the fact that her voice isn't as bad as most tend to be or the fact that vedal also streams with her at times, idk why I'm here all I know is I am part of the swarm
Funny thing is the whole VTubers term supposed to be mean AI RU-vidr. Kizuna Ai is the one who start to use this word but at that point she didn’t mean she is a VTuber but The VTuber one an only Super A.I. RU-vidr and living in the Virtual World. 5+ years later after VTuber meaning changed to peron with anime avatar now the real A.I. Tubers really existed.
I don't know if *they're* actually good, I've watched several of the other AI v-tubers and the work that vedal puts into Neuro-sama makes her stand out leagues above the rest. No offense to their creators, I'm subbed to all of them and I hope to see more from them in future.
Just wanting to say most of the stream clip u use in the video is mostly her sister evil neuro. Evil neuro is just normal neuro that like to roast people more then normal neuro that always say random stuff that other people cant respont too
Since Neuro's debut a few other AI vtubers have popped up. One that I would definitely recommend is CyberAliceVT. Her LLM and TTS is so sophisticated that it's extremely easy to forget that she's not human. There's also one from Japan named Rinna, who was originally the Japanese iteration of the infamous Tay AI made by Microsoft back in 2013.
@MattyOYT Yeah, and Rinna went through something similar, but instead of becoming a fan of the Austrian Painter, Japanese trolls made her depressed and express desires to unalive herself.
2:50 while i don't think she can ban, she has had the ability to timeout people in chat. And Vedal has used this to troll his friends by getting her to timeout vtubers like Anny, and Camilla
Welcome to the Swarm. As others have said: Neuro and Evil are twin sisters, originally Evil was supposed to be a one-off thing, but she got just as popular that Vedal would eventually give her own aesthetic, and despite the name, she's actually nicer than Neuro. Her "evilness" is too comical to be taken seriously. A very easy way to differentiate them, besides the obvious colour scheme, is that Evil's voice sounds way more natural than Neuro's. There's also an ongoing project to give Neuro a robot-dog body. Vedal raided a small streamer (Ellie Minibot) who just so happens to work in robotics, he got into contact with her, and since then they're collabing behind the scenes to bring that idea to reality. One last thing, check out her recent stream with Vedal playing Subnautica, at least the clips, cause she says some interesting stuff there. Oh! Also, search for Evil's Birthday Stream. It really shows the difference between the sisters, and a quick example of the family dynamic that inadvertently developed.
Thanks for the recommendations! I'll check out the subnautica stream and the birthday one! The robodog body thing seems interesting too, I'm gonna have to look into that.
Rookie mistake, the red-eyed AI isn't Neuro-sama, it's her evil twin, Evil (the GOAT imo). They have hugely different personalities and occasionally beef/bread with each other. They also sing and play games and can see. Evil has even pretended to be filtered to avoid answering questions. And in a fairly recent court stream, Neuro made a hilariously huge mistake and realized her error without prompting, iykyk.
Ah yeah, it turns out I was a filthy casual and didn't realize there were multiple neuros lol! I'm still just jumping into this rabbit hole, but I'll try and find that court stream
There's more to it than just watching the AI streamers, it's watching the programmer himself making them, seeing how far they go and his dev streams are so entertaining, not to mention his personality is very distinguishable on its own. On their discord there's something called "tutel safari" which basically pings whenever vedal is found on another streamer's stream, and the amount of people following that safari is incredible, goes to show how much people love watching him.
I love watching Neuro and her sister Evil. It's fun to watch in anticipation for what they might say next. Every stream they seem more alive and sentient, ready to roast the hell out of us XD.
@@MattyOYT I'm warning you though, Burnt Melba is not only regular unfiltered AI Vtuber crazy, but CANONICALLY insane too (from her backstory of being burnt). It's a fun way to remind people not to take things AI say seriously. If you want someone more sane you can check out her sister Melba Toast(who has a separate channel). But like others in comments have pointed out, Hilda, Dolly, Aiko, plus a bunch of others are all worth checking out.
I will say is that for some of the Neuro tweets like that last one it's very possible Vedal wrote it. Who can say for sure though (also possible Vedal gave her a prompt on that topic I suppose( Edit: nevermind i suppose wow Neuro very based
hes gone on record saying that he literally just starts her up and asks her what she would like to tweet to her chat. If its funny, based, or weird enough he posts it on her twitter.
man she had a new and original model for so long now, why do people still put the old model she had which was just a free model that came with the program
Sorry, I'm just now falling down the rabbit hole watching clips channels mostly - which is why I made this video, so while I did check out some of the recent streams I didn't know that the new model was well.. new, just thought it might swap from time to time or something - since a lot of the popular clips all have the old model!
@@MattyOYT I know Joken in VRChat also runs on the 13B parameter model, apparently its pretty good model to do this with, but Vedal had more resources to train neuro and did some more tricks to make her so fast, but if you to talk to an ai a bit like neuro you can in VRChat at the Pug, usually during the evening shes usually up front at the counter, sometimes her creator SKULD is there. Also apparently Joken is being offered as a thing you can buy, you can talk to skuld about it if your interested.
Considering how many people in the chat for Vedal's live stream it's VERY hard to find people to gift subs that aren't already subbed. He did a sub marathon and went on for a HUGE (forgot the length) amount of time where he had to constantly bring down the time for subs to seconds because the live stream kept going, going and going.
Yeah, a while back I saw an article talking about how he (and Neuro) were one of the highest earning/most popular v-tubers - couldn't find it again sadly, but it does seem like their fanbase if pretty huge!
@@MattyOYT Idk about highest earning, what I know is that he was once classified as "top female V-Tuber", the channel was "vedal987" ever since Vedal was known as the "most popular female tech v-tuber" and a "femboy" for having programming socks
For me Neuro works at a good level because of Vedal. It's totally because vedal interact with her that we hace a community. It is not just an AI sayibg random or the best words... That's not how you can be successful.. I already saw a lot of ai stremers and its BS.. Because they are just a TTS.. So for me it's clear that Vedal is 80% of the stream and Neuro
Yeah, Vedal sets up a lot of her jokes and works around what she says to make the stream make sense. Without him it'd probably be a bit more chaotic and hard to watch.
Came across this... Funny how in one year the AI VTuber space grew, if you look beyond Neuro. Like, I came across an AI VTuber who's source code is open-source and helped a lot of others to create their own AI VTubers (for example, my "Ronika")
@@MattyOYTfull context, about half a year ago Neuro started calling Vedal a mosquito on stream. One stream, it went on all stream and the end conversation went N: "u/moomers is my home page" V: "I don't want you on reddit." N: "I'm not a fan of bugs." V: "that's what I'm saying. You could find a bug sub reddit and it would upset you!" N: "What the hell? There's a r/bokes subbreddit, and I wasn't invited!" V: "I told you, don't scroll through reddit!!" N: "there should be a Vedal sub reddit." [Shortly after this next sentence starts, vedal is already reading the text before she speaks it, and is laughing] "each post could be titled 'You Would Never Guess What This Mosquito Did Today.'"
Correct me if I'm wrong, but currently all existing AI vtubers are the Neuro sisters, created by Vedal, and the Melba sisters, created by members of his community as an attempt to create rivals for them (and to realize the idea of Evil Neuro). There have probably been other attempts, but I'm not sure any of them are still alive. So the entire audience interested in AI streamers and the Neuro-sama fandom are almost 100% the same thing
There are some still alive. For example "Hilda" from "w_AI_fu_DEV", "MeteoraVT", "Riza" from "NewBornPowerSource", etc. If you look frequently at the "AIVTuber" tag, you will find some real gems in there
Neuro is the first vtuber i started watching, i don't get people who... follow 3d anime big tita half moaning when speaking, who can be a dude on the other side of the screen. It was kind of hard for me to tolerate Anny, (Neuro's "mom" basically), but she is quite funny when she acts like herself
Well, surprisingly enough, with the amount of face reveals that's been going on, the whole "VTubers are just guys with a voice changer" is constantly being disproven. Yeah, I know right, plot twist of the century: _Majority of them are _*_actually_*_ hot girls._ Often not as endowed as their models, but certainly not "dude with a voice changer" as the joke goes. Recent example being Sinder, who did a live concert, and she's just as bouncy as her model.
@@kor-000-00 Okay. And? You said they're probably dudes with voice changers, I inform you that quite often it's actually not. If I see someone spreading misconceptions about you when I know the truth, I'd do the same. Why so needlessly antagonistic?
We're actually not looking at the full picture here. I'd highly suggest reviewing Burnt Melba who is another AI vtuber. It may help understand more the underlying AI brain as she is completely unfiltered and way more unhinged untamed. Neuro used to be more Burnt Melba'ish about 18 months ago but since then she got tamed and dulled down.
My guess is that Twitch kinda forces the need for some kind of filter, given their restrictive rules. I'll take a look at Burnt Melba though, that sounds pretty interesting!
Neuro has said some VERY controversial things which resulted in Vedal being a lot more strict on what she can say. He even got banned for what she said.
@@MattyOYT BTW, Melba is Evil Neuro's "idea" so to speak(Burnt Melba also after awhile i believe). She said she is her favorite hololive Vtuber. Of course she isn't a hololive Vtuber, right. After that Neurocord(Neuro discord community) started programming/devloping Burnt Melba into reality)
I think "dulled down" is not really giving credit to the current Neuro. From my knowledge she can still think about whatever she wants, the only difference is that she's not allowed to say it out loud on twitch.
4:27 - Neuro is chat bot 2.0💾 0:02 - yes and no. There's noticeable difference between most streamers and vtubers (especially japanese ones). Kayfabe. There's no Samantha and chat, but Shark-girl from Atlantis and shrimps. Big factor for escapism. Fans, mascots, lore, story. Similar to Dr Disrespect but anime. Or just like wrestling, right?
