I used to play this game before it got yeeted onto Facebook. My mom and dad would pay a monthly membership so I could play with everything. The game you are playing is just a shell of what it used to be. It used to have cross country and that's where I spent a lot of my time, lol. The cross country was great. The trainer and graphics in the newer version of the game to me is actually worse. The paddock used to look different, too. It was hillier than the new one. The horse models and animations are the same, but it doesn't FEEL the same. The game is different because whoever was in charge of giving the files over to the new company had either "deleted" or "misplaced" the files, and so it was rebuilt in a sense. This is very old news and I think I remember it correctly, but it really is more or less a different game to what it was originally.
I played this game years ago, it was supposed to have breeding and cross country introduced when they got to a certain number of subscribers, but that never happened. Shame, it had a lot of potential, but I don't think anything will be added to it now.
The old version seems better than steam and facebook because they made with many software back in 2007 such as gamebryo the game engine, scaleform, speedtree, ageia physx and quazal
@@childhoodforever yeah and it was, I'm friends with the developer of both games, he was absolutely devastated when artplant so suddenly pulled the plug on Riding Club championships and destroyed all of the cross country courses. I have him on my steam friend list, so if you wanna I can ask him to do an interview about the old game etc
Yeah, it's a unity remake of the original, in which artplant pulled the plug. I know because I'm friends with the developer, I literally have him on my steam friend list. We both wanted to remake the original game, but all assets were destroyed in grief.
thank you for talking about this game. i played it way back in 2008: i LOVED playing it and its fun to play even today. its a shame it doesent get recognition as much as it deserves.
Hey, I know this game! It used to be on Facebook (Facebook used (?) to have a gaming section, called Facebook gameroom, Minecraft, Farmville, Criminal Case and Dino Storm are some of the games that used to be there.) many years ago, I discovered this game there. I never played it for too long though, I think I didn't understand what I was supposed to do in the game 😅 I have downloaded it again via Steam recently, and my only problem with the games is that the turn is too sensitive for me. But overall, it's a very good game indeed, specially for the time it was made. I wish more people played it!
I used to play this back on Facebook when it actually had games and such. It was my favorite thing to do! I'm glad to her it's still being taken care of.
Hey Eleanor, I'm friends with the Developer of the steam version. As I told you last year, this isn't the original game and the original was shut down.
I played this probably in 2008-2009 and loved it! Once I figured out how to actually ride and do stuff with the horse haha, it's quite a complicated UI for a kid. I think more people do know about it than you'd think, but once you've played for a while it's just not as exciting anymore. I've also heard that whoever was in charge of it made som changes/ removed a lot of content and features when it was made free to play (due to no team behind it anymore) so it's not the same now as it used to be in the golden days up until around 2011 or something if I remember correctly. But it is definitely a fun horse game to pick up every now and then for the nostalgia 😄
Yeah, I did some research and apparently, there used to be more diciplines like dressage. There was also supposed to be a breeding system as more game features, but it was never implementef
@@eleanornightwalker I can vaguely remember dressage. I think my biggest throw off and what made me not fully understand the game as an 11/12 year old (who didn't have a lot of internet/ online experience) was due to gameplay being locked behind a connection wall. You had to connect with other players to be able to play any of the competitions which quickly made me frustrated and loose interest. To just ride around in your own paddock hoping for gifts were... repetative haha. To me Ride! and My Horse & Me were my favorites back then 😄
I used to be close to max level on Riding Club Championships on Facebook back in the day. I'm still salty that I can't play it any more. Or at least I can't seem to find a way to play it on Facebook nowadays.
@@eleanornightwalker Yeah, Facebook had like a gameroom where you could play MANY online games - like Dragon City, Icy Tower 2 and even School of Dragons (from HTTYD universe)
Looks interesting! I still wish there would be another open world rpg/mmo horse game where you could see other players and interact with them. I think that about 99 % of the horse games out there are made for kids, so I hope that some day some company will create a horse game for adults too. Like RDR Online but focusing in horses! Or something similar. But I know, horse games don't make a big profit usually, and that's the reason why there is no large horse game projects by big gaming companies. I don't know how big profits SSO does, tho.
I have played championship for 5 years! Stacy Place, who played SSO, played this game for a split second. I didn’t have star rider yet and I wanted more horse games. So she played this one and I pretty much immediately hopped on and made an account.
I played it few years ago and I gave up playing it really quickly. I had problem with turning the Horse and gameplay didn't felt fun to me so I uninstalled it but I am gonna give it a try. Also there is really good MMO Horse game called Horse Isle 3 and it is really big, there is a lot of stuff to do, even exploring is great part of it. It litellary is like mix of Minecraft + ARC Survival Craft + Horses. You can build our own ranch, catch wild Horses, Explore, make your own shoop, make a Club talk (and meet) with other players, breed various of Horses - they even include genetics illnesses. It is even for free but most of the people don't play it since it turned out that developers weren't kind hearted for LGBT+ community when it was lunched and People were baned form game - permanently - for saying: I am gay/lesbian etc. But I think that situation is a little better now. I said that I am bisexual few months ago and I Wasn't baned.
I gave this game multiple chances thoughout the years but it never got me interested for more. I remember at some point it was not really fair for F2P players at all, IDK about now. EDIT: Also maybe you have heard about this before, but there was this another open-world horse MMO called My Horse Club, I think it's not live anymore for years, but just for the information.
I have been playing this game in the past, it's fun and it takes some skill too and I like the graphics, I made some courses, but I forgot about it after a while. They had a kickstarter some time too, to add cross country to the game but it failed.
i've played this game but i dont think many people talk about it/play it because there isnt much to do in it other than racing, you should check out horse isle 3 though if u havent already, the graphics are off-putting but theres so much to do, it could probably compete with sso if the graphics werent so bad lol
I remember this game when it was pay to play, I shared the account with a friend! yes I know it's not ideal to share but she wanted to share it with me, worked out since I'd do the things she didn't like doing 😂 While the game can be fun now, it doesn't feel the same as back then, something is just missing.
i played it for a handful of months but it honestly got boring and repetitive quickly, its mainly just a racing game and didn't have many features other than the agility and jumping
Ok so, you mention it being maintained and updated up until now, which it isn't. Only "updates" given are the weekly tournament results which has been the case since it's facebook days. Way back when it was an Art Plant game it had a lot more stuff going for it, more different types of competitions, trainings ect, the version we can play today is a ported Facebook shell of the game it used to be. The game advertised for a long while that they were adding cross country if enough money was collected, which is... odd cause the Art Plant version HAD it. I would not call it an MMO as it is now either, it's barely an online game at all. If you search the title on youtube and sort by date you'll see the exact same game in the exact same state up to 10 years ago - BUT. Go back aorund 11 years and you'll see more polished game featuring showjumping; as well as cross country and dressage. Tons of videos of well made official showjumping courses, cross country in different settings and some other features we're missing today. I picked two accounts who have playlists from the game back then: Oddleif65 and Yogi, Yogi's especially shows the difference between the facebook and Art Plant version of it and when it closed down, as well as the dressage and cross country. You can also note that the graphics haven't changed much if at all. As is today it can be fun for 30 minute sessions once every 4 months but I would much rather spend any money on scummy 2d horse collection games or some horse app games than this one, especially as it was a much more fleshed out game once. It does in no way compare to the bigger titles we have today in it's current state, but could probably have a bigger playerbase if it had kept the Art Plant online version going, or sold it/free to play as a singleplayer title in that state.
@@everenrae9005 Not personally, I didn't know it existed until a while after it shut down, but my guess is lack of funding as with most niche online games at the time.
