The song is a cover from Martha & The Vandells' 1965 classic, "Dancing In t Streets. " I suggest you guys react to the original song by Martha & The Vandellas
These guys are truly masters of their craft . They wanted to Help a good cause, so they got everything together laid down the song, recorded it, and shot the video all in one day.
Exactly and yet Seth ‘the money grabbing Whore’ MacFarlane. Tried to ridicule it in a Family Guy episode. About 10 years after he and it stopped being remotely funny. What a bellend.
For the movie reaction channel, y'all might want to consider watching the movie Labyrinth, starring David Bowie and a young Jennifer Connelly. It's one of those classic 80s kids' movies that is just absolutely iconic. Plus, Bowie sings in it!
Yep, great movie! Jim Henson directed it and executive produced by George Lucas. Featuring a lot of the puppeteers who worked on Henson's "The Dark Crystal".
It's awful and beyond cheesy. It goes against both artists’ talent and previous work. Bowie went commercial after his Berlin years, and Mick became a caricature of his once-great self. It's an undeniable low point for both.
@@fuchsiaswing8545 I'd have agreed with ya back when this came out...but now? Oh hell no. Cheesy or no it's a million times better than any of the crap around today.
The original plan for Live Aid was for Mick and David to perform this song live from the two Live Aid locations; Mick at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia and David at Wembley Stadium in London. Unfortunately technology of the day made that impossible; there was too much of a delay. They couldn't sync up. So that's why they had to pre-record the video ahead of time
This was first recorded by Martha and the Vandellas back in the 60’s at Motown, and has been covered by other artists since then, including the Mamas and Papas. Love the energy of Bowie and Jagger here!
The reason they vibe together so well is by this time they'd been friends for decades. Not just friends, either; they've both confirmed they were one of each other's conquests back in the anything-goes days of the 70's. So they have an extremely comfortable and meshed vibe in this video. They probably didn't even rehearse.
Jay & Amber, you'll love Bowie's "Changes" and "Young Americans" !! and the Rolling Stones "Angie", "Lets Spend The Night Together" and "Beast Of Burden" !!!
Bowie was always ready for a laugh, if you watch his live stuff, especially when he started performing and feeling more comfortable as himself in the early 2000s, you'll see his always in good spirits and cracking jokes. David was great.
For more great David Bowie songs check out (in chronological order): - The Man Who Sold The World - Changes - Life on Mars - Five Years - Moonage Daydream - Suffragette City - Rock N Roll Suicide - Aladdin Sane - Drive-in Saturday - The Jean Genie - Diamond Dogs - Rebel Rebel - Young Americans - Station to Station - Sound and Vision - Heroes - China Girl - Let's Dance - Ashes to Ashes - Hallo Spaceboy (1996 Remix Ft. The Pet Shop Boys) - I'm Afraid of Americans - Blackstar - Lazarus I could have named more but that's a start.
If you want to see a FUN side of Bowie, watch the movie "Labyrinth" by Jim Henson. He plays the goblin king and is quite snarky and smooth at the same time.
They already did that last year. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YXuHmD81oFo.html Matter of fact they did pretty much every well known Christmas song last year. I have no idea what they're going to do this year! 🎄
"Jagger also revealed what he thought of the “Dancing in the Street” video. “My favorite memory was the time we did ‘Dancing in the Street’ together,” he said. “We had to record the song and film the video all in one day. We walked straight from the studio onto the set of the video. At the end of the day, we were saying, ‘See, it can be done! Why are [we] spending years in the studio?'” While Jagger enjoys the video, he has some regrets about his professional relationship with Bowie. “We enjoyed camping it up,” he recalled. “The video is hilarious to watch. It was the only time we really collaborated on anything, which is really stupid when you think about it.” Jagger wasn’t the only one who enjoyed “Dancing in the Street.” Listeners seemed to enjoy it as well. The duet reached No. 7 on Billboard Hot 100, staying on the chart for 14 weeks. It’s Jagger’s only top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 as a solo artist. The Official Charts Company reports “Dancing in the Street” was a success in the United Kingdom as well. The song reached No. 1 in the U.K., staying on the chart for 15 weeks. It remains Jagger’s only No. 1 hit in his native U.K. without The Rolling Stones.
The two of them did such a good job with that song, so much energy. It was very popular, especially the video on MTV. And Mick Jagger definitely has the moves.
Live Aid was such a huge deal back in the day. I remember my friend taping as much of the show as she could fit on a VHS tape (which wasn't much). Ah, those days before DVR and streaming. So many great performances that day.
This was a prerecorded for Live Aid cause they couldn't be in England to do it. One of the best sets of all time was done at Live Aid. It is regarded by most . Queen at Live Aid. It's about 18 minutes long but omg so good. You will want to see it.
Bowie did perform at Live Aid in Wembley, but Mick and Keith were almost at each others throats at the time, so the Stones were not possible. Keith and Ronnie Wood did an impromptu performance with Bob Dylan in Philly.
@@jamesscully529 ... Mick actually was in Philly too and performed solo, including his famous duet with Tina Turner on the Jackson's State of Shock. He and the other Stones couldn't have been that mad at each other if they were both in the same place at the same time
I get fed up with all the negative things said about this tune, its not amazing music it's not amazing voices, it's just 2 amazing legends camping it up and having a ball. So please you haters, just chill and go dancing in the street.
If you are looking for another Live Aid performance, check out the song "Vienna" by Ultravox. Their singer, Midge Ure, was one of the organizers who made Live Aid happen and he gave one of the most incredible vocal performances that day.
Despite the criticism - I LOVE the quirkiness of this - and have always loved this song. It's a fun video that shows they don't have to take themselves so seriously all the time. Nothing wrong with doing that once in a while. Just makes you human.
This is a cover from the early 60s Motown hit song from "Martha and The Vandellas." It was a great song. Mick Jagger and David Bowie are (were) tight friends (Both are British) and worked on one another's songs, and albums over almost 50 years, until David's recent death a few years ago. I'll never forget the interview I heard with Mick Jagger talking about the time David Bowies' wife came home unexpectedly, only to find Mick and David in bed together. That isn't my cup of tea...but I like their music.
As many have said it was filmed for Live Aid, but only a video because the original plan to have them perform the song "together" with Mick in the USA and Bowie in England couldn't be done due to the satellite/delays.. .
I love superstar duets that you don't see coming & this will always hold a special place in my heart. When I see this, it makes me think of so many other cool duets, mainly Athera Franklin & Annie Lennox 'sister's are doing it for themselves' which I know you would love on a female Friday 😉
Y'all should check out Mick with The Jacksons ("State Of Shock"). There's no music video. Try to find the 12" extended version. Mick performed it with Tina Turner at Live Aid, there is footage of that. Around the same time period there was a duet featuring Elton John & Millie Jackson (no relation) called "Act Of War". Millie was popular on R&B radio, mainly in the 1970s, she didn't really have any Top 40 pop crossover. Check out "Sun City" too by Artists United Against Apartheid.
YAAAAS! I suggested this a long while ago. I'm happy that you've finally gotten around to it. Look at my David Bowie showing off his dancing skills. Love love love.
This is a cover written by Marvin Gaye, William "Mickey" Stevenson and Ivy Jo Hunter. It hit the charts in 1964 with Martha Reeves & The Vandellas recording it. It reached number 2 in the USA and number 4 in the UK. They are doing with the energy Martha Reeves & The Vandellas did it.
Well there's a song I haven't heard in such a long time! I remember this video and their version of this song, it rocked! However, we gotta tell you there is an original version of this song by Martha and the Vandellas recorded in 1965 then Van Halen covered it in 1982, that is when I heard this song first, then three years later by David Bowie and Mick Jagger in 1985. I am glad you reacted to this song and enjoyed it too!
@@sjw5797 Oh no, did they really? I did not forget about them because I was not aware they had a version of this song! Well then, I'll kindly thank you for mentioning it and then I will go check out their version! I appreciate your response! Thank you again! 👍
Recoded for Live Aid in 1985, Global concert and television event to raise money to combat the famine in Africa. It raised $127 million which is probably close to 1 billion in today’s dollars. This is a fun cover of a Motown hit. The opinion prevailing is that the Queen performance at Wembley Stadium in England was the highlight. Check out Queen live at Wembley. It is astonishing. Freddy Mercury was a force of nature!
Female Friday do the original: Martha & The Vandellas "Dancing in the Streets" And if you want a rock version: Van Halen - Dancing In The Street (J will love the synth in this one)
I can remember watching the Live Aid concert when this came on my dad called from the other room "Is that Mick Jagger singing Dancing in the Street?". He came and watched this while he had ignored every other performance from Live Aid except his favorite Beach Boys.
The greatest live performance of all time was Queen. On a day full of music and legends, Queen stole the show so much they made a movie about it. Watch that 22 min performance, Freddie at his greatest
Oh my gosh! My favorite song when it came out. As soon as I got home from school, I called our local radio station and requested this song. Jagger and Bowie are just cool!
this video makes me giggle so much, i love them both andthis is a fun song. I recommend other GREAT duets by powerhouses for you to react: "dont let the sun go down on me" by elton john and george michael "dont give up" by peter gabriel and kate bush "miss sarajevo" bono and luciano pavarotti "its only love" by tinaturner and bryan adams "where the wild roses grow" by nick cave and kylie minogue
This cover of the song originally by Martha Reeves and the Vandellas was recorded for charity in 1985 as part of the Band Aid/USA for Africa campaign and the video (filmed in just a few takes in less than two hours) premiered in the middle of the Live Aid concerts at Wembley and Philadelphia on the 13 July 1985.
Nice reaction guys! Oh, I liked this music video when I was young. It always made me happy. And I remember being proud of my mom and dad knowing the lyrics to this "new" song. Then I heard about Martha & the Vandellas. The same goes for "Time Is on My Side". soul singer Irma Thomas was the first to sing that song, and later the Rolling Stones.
don't think i've watched that since the time period when it was new. I watched the live aid broadcast on tv with my mom. They played that video alot in between stage acts. It was my introduction to a lot of bands at the time. I was thrilled with Jagger, he also did a stage performance with Tina Turner, in which he was similarly animated. My mother was most impressed by "that guy with the mustache.... he could really sing!" i was 9 at the time.
I absolutely love this remake of the Martha and the Vandellas hit and I love this video. These two legends are having a ball! They did this video and song to help w/the famine relief and it was played during the Live Aid concert in 1985. Great song!💖💖
I can't hear this song without thinking of the Family Guy episode when they showed this music video and Peter said, "1985 brought us the gayest music video of all time". Then after the video he said, "That happened, and we all let it happen". LMAO! Still, it's 37 years later and Dancing in the Street is still one of the silliest and most fun music videos to watch. Thanks RSR!
I remember watching this video when it was released. An entirely fun video. I remember thinking that I had no idea Bowie could move so much! The 80swere so much fun , and united
I'm sure they basically had 1 night when they could get together to do "a video" due to commitments, they raised loads for live aid too. Please please watch Queen's Live aid performance 🙏
They are so great! It cracks me up because they are both so full of it and they can't contain it! Both of them do little twirls and dips and bops, like it just pops out! This should be played at the start at each day!
“That happened. And we all LET it happen.” - Peter Griffin - That you two guys are slightly younger than me enough to not have the 80s allergy that I do … I suppose I envy you. It was things like this, Billy Ocean and also that diet coke ad with Elton John and Paula Abdul that made Nirvana feel like salvation.
