This video was recorded on Venice Beach, California in 1983, 41 years ago, and that guitar player on skates at the beginning of the music video, at the 00:57 mark in this video, Harry Perry, still rides up and down Venice Beach this very day playing that guitar. I moved to Venice Beach in 85 and have been here ever since, well, I'm next door in Santa Monica now
I was 21 when this song came out. I am SOOOOOO thankful that I grew up at that time. We had THE BEST time dancing at clubs. It didn't matter who you were, EVERYONE danced, drank, and just had fun. No one cared about the crap that people perseverate on today. I feel badly for young people today.
‘Bout time! 😆 Not only is this a fun song, but it’s one of the best music videos, ever. I just realized that several of my favorite dance songs are travel related, like Party Train, Groove Line, and Fantastic Voyage.
This is definitely one of my very favorite 80s PARTY SONGS!! I must have danced in the clubs to this a million times! (Or close to it) 😅 Love this video too!
Yes, Got To Give It Up parts 1 and 2. Also, they should check out I Want You, Sexual Healing, You're All I Need To Get By with Tammi Terrell, Distant Lover, Let's Get It On.
This video/song is gonna make me cry! We had so much fun back then, just what it looked like. So much great music, so much fun, being crazy, silly, just having a good time.
YES WE DID DARLIN'!!! I wouldn't have missed it for the world growing up as a teenager in the 70's and in my 20's in the 80's .....oh my the great great fun times and great music!!
Here we go! Finally a good tune!!! I was in 6th grade and jammed to this song all the frickin time. Everone goes to You Dropped The Bomb On Me. But this song really got the funk going. Easily my favorite Gap Band song. Charlie Wilson baby...Good job guys!!!
There weren’t a ton of folks walking around in speedo’s like that at the beach. I was at that taping at Venice Beach on a Saturday during the summer, they allowed people to stand there and watch the taping, all the people you see were random beach goers, who just happen to be at the Beach that day, Venice Beach was a place to be back in the day, so much activity, Basketball, Skating, weight Lifting, shopping, biking, eating etc. the 80’s was lit 🔥 what a great time…..
As a native Californian I can tell you this was the best time at Venice Beach. It ain't like that anymore sadly. Party Train can STILL get people movin! Great choice! 💃
Ronny Reagan was the senator from what I believe. That time was conservitive, now ran into the ground by lazy demons. I guess you get what you vote for.
Totally love the Gap Band! The dance moves and coordination in the official video of ‘You Dropped A Bomb On Me’ are fabulous - another funky classic! Love from Scotland.
We NEVER missed the “Party Train” when I was still out having the fun times of my life! Loved, loved the Gap Band! It wasn’t just toe-tapping music, my white butt hit the dance floor when the Train was rolling!!! Love me some Gap Band!!!
Funk, by and large is my favorite genre and I just love how unifying music is. How can you not want to get up and shake it? That groove hits you and BAM! You're on the dance floor lol!!!❤❤❤
Loved me some Gap band back in the day. Always heard at parties and skate rinks. My friends would do dance offs wit the same moves seen in this video. Great time to be young.
Every Saturday night we get together and play quarters at my friend's house and first thing he always put on a cassette of The gap band and the first song was party train
Saw them in concert and I was grooving the entire time, especially to this song. I'm dancing in my living room again folks. So much fun. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
Gotta have some FUNK!!!! LOVE The GAP BAND!! And yes, I owned a pair of Speedos, back when I was worth looking at...I also owned a pair of leather parachute pants!
Wasn't life in the 80s AWESOME?! It looks like they were in Venice or Santa Monica Beach. The highlights of the 80s was breakdancing. Breakdancing motivates my students with Down Syndrome, they are so precious when they try it! 🥰 Have you heard the song "Street People" by Fire Fox? It was on the movie "Breakin" in 1984. You gotta see that movie if you haven't already!
Grew up in BA, Oklahoma back in 70s and 80s…GAP was especially huge in Tulsa area. Saw Uncle Charlie a couple years ago with New Edition….he is still absolutely killing it on stage!
Love the beat of The Gap Band. Fifty miles up the coast from Venice Beach I met my wife in 1987 when i asked her to dance to The Gap Band _ Drop the Bomb on Me.
Love the song! Charlie has all the charisma you can ask for from a lead vocalist. My brother and I used to waterski and blast Gap Band on our little boat. Great memories!
SOOOO so glad you did this one from the mighty, mighty GAP Band!!! Irresistable good vibe! Loved this in the day and still love it to this day! Thank you!!!!
" STELLAR FUNK " 🎸 by SLAVE from 1977 the title name says it all it is Super STELLAR indeed there's so much transitions going on in this Incredible song that I think Y.T. has recommended me some of the very best in FUNK 70s groups and songs such as this group . There's guitar solos too.
The GAP Band was named after three streets in Tulsa. Greenwood, Archer and Pine. The GAP Band also recorded at Leon Russell’s (who’s also from Tulsa) Church Studio.
Love this band. Fun & funky, stylin and making incredible songs. You can just feel that bass vibrate through your body. Cheesy video but those were in abundance in the 80's. Song still stands the test of time.
Get to see them a couple of times it was a happening, and nobody sits down they stand up and dance that’s how it always was… So much fun and the music was the best😊
The video was set at Venice Beach, where there was a wild diversity of people. One area, Muscle Beach, brought out body builders. The religious group were Hare Krishna. Lots of cool restaurants and "head shops" for cannabis smokers. It was a crazy time. Today, unfortunately, a lot of homeless encampments.
The Gap Band is one of my favorite groups. I'm a GAPper from way back! "Party Train" was released in 1983. Charlie Wilson's voice still sounds the same 41 years later! If you haven't heard it yet, will you please react to their song "Humpin'"? You'll love the beat. 😊❤❤
I absolutely love this song and this video. My favorite part is the Hare Krishna being pulled onto the dancefloor and he just take off dancing. It's so awesome.
So many of these classic and influential 70's bands were just magical. The music was typically about love, fun and coming together. Earth, Wind and Fire and the O'Jays and Commodores, also Kool and the Gang. Just tons of these great songs and bands. Back in the day it was fine to talk about being sexy, in love and devotion to each other. I think of Barry White or Teddy Pendergrass. Music has such a great ability to bring us all together! Love you two and your energy and smiles!
I am a Malaysian , studying in The USA in the early 80s .. People from color , was rarely seen in the State . As soon as this song played , the dance floor immediately became crowded . I still remember this .. Great dance song . So much fun those days .
Don't miss that train don't miss the party train🎉🎉 Gap band is off the hook Uncle Charlie is the onl🎉y surviving group member all the songs and albums are legendary ❤
Charlie Wilson has a solo career. I only recently found that out. Don't know his songs but you might want to check them out. He just received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame the other day.
I work at a casino. I was helping a band unload their van one Saturday night. I asked them what kind of music they played. He said funk and R&B. I said Outstanding! He said yes, we’re going to play that too😆🎼
In a perfect moment in the universe...my best friend and I were out one night, and I had just popped this cassette (yes, a cassette..lol) in. The song started a bit before we were going down a hill and under the railroad tracks. Right when the train horn sounded in the song, a train above us sounded its horn. With the t-tops off, it scared us half to death...lol. Seriously, what were the chances? I think it took 5 years off of my life, and every time I pass under that same railroad bridge today, I hear that damn train horn 🤣🤣❤❤.

Radio Station W G A P is always your best choice for the 80's funk, their sound was way ahead of their time, my wife and I are in our 60's and we still crank this song up when it plays on our random playing 10 cd player ( yes it still works ) LOL. We love you two from here in Ohio... Oooops upside your Head, Or Humpin are two other groove you will enjoy, they don't have any bad songs, If you want a slow jam from them - Season no reason to Change...
I love this song and I love the video. It reminds me of being down on Venice Beach in California because I know that it was shot in California. And I remember seeing things just like that down there. Muscle beach all the little shops the memories❤
