And that's where you can easily connect your headset to. The way he said you need to buy stuff to connect a headset just made no sense to me. Maybe wireless, but with the controller being wireless you already essentially have a wireless headset. It could easily be solved by a simple google search or even looking at the thing he praised.

In all fairness, having owned a PS4 and now PS5 myself, the Share function on the PS5 is MUCH better than the PS4. It's a lot snappier and responsive, likely due to the PS5's UI having everything baked into it. Also, if I recall correctly, it took awhile for Sony to patch in the best features of the Share function on PS4 - I believe it was pretty bare-bones at launch.

You’re right, they’re more rare to find in new models, but it’s more like “I already have a perfectly good headset/sound processor with an optical port, and I don’t see why I have to buy new.” I feel for everyone who bought an Astro or Turtle Beach product (or a soundbar with optical) for $$$ and finds their products not compatible. And, there aren’t really new any/many headsets that come with HDMI in their base station. So it’s a case of the old not working, and not having something new to replace it (other than first party solutions). It’s especially bad for Xbox users though… at least some USB products will work with PS5 (and PS4, you have to research if they support UAC1, USB Audio Class 1), but Xbox is a mess especially if you also want a mic. That is, if you want audio better than the lackluster headphone jacks built into controllers. I can report, from experience, the DSS is much improved over the DS4 when it comes to audio clarity, but everything is still a little veiled and the sense of depth is crushed to near claustrophobic dimensions.

@@timlyons3420 I hear you, some details about wireless: neither new console supports Bluetooth audio. You CAN get a bluetooth USB adapter that works on PS5, but Bluetooth always has a lag, and gaming is in real-time unlike movies or RU-vid (or even Twitch streams), so the video output can’t be delayed to match the Bluetooth lag. Add to that, if you want to use a microphone and send your voice audio back through Bluetooth, it takes half the bandwidth (reducing the quality of the game audio further). Wireless can be done with 2.4 GHz wireless, and has been done so lag-free for years. In fact, you can even buy an EPOS GSP 670 or Audeze Penrose right now, plug in the USB transmitter stick to a PS4/PS5, and they will work, lag free, with mic audio. Problem is, they’re rare. And Audeze had to build a whole separate version for Xbox, because they needed to pay Microsoft an Exorbitant cost for a license to have compatibility (that’s why these models are $300). Sony charges just as much for a license and native wireless support, but things are a little easier on PlayStation because they do have generic USB support (USB Audio Class 1). Finally, they have to be purpose built for native audio support - so if you buy both consoles, you have to buy two separate headsets. So, in summary, Bluetooth + Gaming = Bad, however wireless is possible with the caveat that prices are high and your options are limited and less flexible.
