So I was on twitter and stumbled across a video of Lil Uzi Vert saying his favorite kpop group was GFRIEND. I've never listened to GFRIEND before so today, I check out one song from 2015 till 2019 from GFRIEND's discography. This is my first time listening to GFRIEND.
In this video I react to 시간을 달려서(Rough), LOVE WHISPER(귀를 기울이면), Time for the moon night(밤), and Sunrise(해야) MV's. This video is rather long for it to not be an album review. If I do something similar I'll likely try to shorten the video in length if too long for you all. Much love!

hey guys! this video kept getting blocked in some countries so there are jumpcuts! i wanted to checkout why lil uzi stanned gfriend so hard from that live clip so i checked out a song from every year for 4 years. i hope you guys enjoy this longer reaction and yeah! i really liked sunrise the most, in second i'd give it to time for the moon night!

Thought I should state the facts here - Uzi is a GFRIEND stan. He tweets about it and he follows them. He doesnt have a GFRIEND tattoo though. It was a troll edit someone made (warp tool does wonders btw) during the 'Time for the Moon Night' promotions. People spread the edit without even checking it's source and it just blew up. Later got deleted when it became viral.

HOW GFRIEND BECAME FAMOUS: At first they weren't that noticed until a video went viral. Look up "Gfriend fall" on youtube and you'll see a video with millions of views. I challenge you to watch that video without grimacing! They were performing under conditions of a very slippery stage. People may not notice from the music at first listen but Gfriend's dances have many parts that are quite athletic which added to the danger. The girls were slipping and falling again and again and again and again but they had the strength and professionalism to keep going and it won the hearts of everybody who watched. They became kind of an overnight sensation at that time. All the kpop girls were learning Gfriend's dances and all the Korean shows wanted them to come on as guests.

Dreamcatcher is certainly renown for their rock music style and more intense choreo for a girl group. Gfriend is often described as the girl group with the best synchronization. There are iconic moves from all their songs that everyone knows, and they do them exactly together.

Gfriend is the meaning of a full package of Vocal and choreo. You chose 4 song: Rough (2016) was their biggest hit, they won 15 trophies for it in 2016. Love whisper (2017) is their hardest choreo bcs it was choreographed by BTS's choreographer. Time for the moon night (2018) is the mark when they do a different concept, the song and the meaning is very thoughtful. And Sunrise (2019) is called a real battle high note. As you see, they explode that last part when 4/6 of them hit high note . Hope u check out their dance practice. All their dance is so complex and pleasant to watch

I would say Me Gustas Tu was their biggest hit. It may not have any wins but it's their longest charting song in Korean charts. Me Gustas Tu reigned in Melon for 63 weeks while Rough only had like 39 weeks. MGT is also the first idol group song to reach 100 million streams.

If you ask anyone if they know any gfriend songs, they would say me gustas tu. Anyway, both songs are hits and are masterpieces and we can say rough and mgt are gfriend's biggest hits.

Gfriend have Lil Uzi and Christopher Gallant stanning for them during their rookie era, they had been reaching to the black community for years now and people said that their concept won't go far and stay underrated? Even I as a kpop fan for 16 years almost give up on modern 3rd generation kpop, but not until Gfriend came along and change my mind. I don't care what anyone have to say but they are indeed almost perfect to capture the kpop original within their songs like everything was on point. So glad that they are one of the household name of kpop girl group in this generation.

Same, I am SONE since I was kid eventho i still can't tell who's who, but I love their song freaking much. But when 3rd gen happen, I stay with snsd, girls day, and wonder girls. But my friend ask me to listen to gfriend in 2016, but i say no cause I think they will sound so noisy and not calmin (ya know, that kind of sound is popular back in 2016) but then in 2017, i fell in love with them in summer rain era :) and nkw imma buddy

It’s kinda funny how you mentioned that some parts of the songs remind you of Dreamcatcher because one of DC’s nicknames is ‘the dark gfriend’,, like if gfriend is one end of the spectrum then dreamcatcher could be their parallel,, they have similarities as both groups are often acknowledged as having really intricate and interesting (as well as synchronised) dances and they have rock elements in a lot of their music however Dreamcatcher goes the harder darker route whereas Gfriend is more orchestral, so yeah haha nice observation. I actually really love both groups for this reason, I feel like some of gfriends songs could be the intro to a slice of life anime, and Dreamcatchers would be a fantasy one or something idk 😂😂

In my opinion, Gfriend and Dream Catcher are two different groups that kind of run parallel to each other? If that makes any sense. They both have powerful choreographys to music with heavy instrumentals, music that seems fit for an anime opening. Yet they're so different from each other. If almost as if Gfriend is the Light while Dream Catcher is the Dark.

They are one of the top girl groups. The fandom is called Buddies! The song Rough got them their first Music Show win and went on to win 15 music shows in 2016. JUSTICE FOR LOVE WHISPER! Anyways, Time for the moon night in 2018 got them 10 music show wins. And their 2019 comeback Sunrise was the first grand slam of 2019 by any group if im correct. Their choreography are known as one of if not the best out of all Girl Groups and there live performances are one of the best as they are very stable, I don't mean to compare but their live singing while dancing are similar to BTS in the fact that they are very stable and sound amazing. Some title tracks that you can check out would be Glass Bead their debut, Me Gustas Tu, Fingertip, Summer Rain, and Navillera Members Sowon - Leader, Vocalist, Main rapper, and the Visual Yerin - Vocalist, Lead Dancer, and the Face of the Group Eunha (MY BIAS but im also OT6 stan) - Lead Vocalist! Yuju - Main Vocals!! Her voice is sooooo good!! Sinb - Main Dancer, and Vocalist Umji - Maknae (youngest), Vocalist, and Lead Rapper!

Eunha is my bias too. I don't know why, but I tend to prefer lead vocalists to main vocalists (maybe it's the slightly lower, more stable/supportive tone of their voices?). SinB's voice pleasantly surprised me in Sunrise (she needs more lines!). Sowon is such a visual too, especially with blonde hair.

About the theories, they said in one interview that all her videos are conected but not in order 😢, you are right the radio on LW is the same in TFTMN and also the papers plane mean something (you have to watch all her videos) 😄 , the theory is around eunha ( girl with shorth hair) is died and the others are trying to communicate with her that's the reason why in TFTMN they are trying to find her. In sunrise if you put attention on the MV is around eunha. If you like BTS I recommend you stand this talented girls eunha and sinb was trainees on bigh hit and the CEOs are best friends so BTS and Gfriend are like brothers ❤ they support each others, also Gfriend 's dance are insane they're so in synch

I think what separates gfriend from other cutesy ggs is the gf’s production crew are real artists and musicians. so instead of making a cringy song, they’re making an artistic one with a positive feel to it and energy that makes it catchy

Maybe it sounds familiar to you because Rough gives a reminiscent feeling. I felt it too when i first listened to it. I'd say that Gfriend are probably one of the only groups right now that are sticking to original kpop style of music. I can't think of any other gg that are doing it like them right now. Gfriend are overall an A class group. Insane vocalists, great choreos and even good instrumentals. They have it all imo.

Ahhhh I'm so happy you did a reaction to a bunch of Gfriend throughout the years instead of just one video and saw their growth. They started out as the group with a "Powerful Innocence" image, they're a cute group with powerful, sharp choreography and they're known for their synchronized knife-like dances and really cool formations. They kind of kept with the cuter schoolgirl image until around "Time for the Moon Night" era where they got a little bit more "Older" (?) but still innocent/pure. However, they did do more of a girl crush concept for "Fingertip" back in 2017 but it wasn't as well received as their other songs, probably because the fandom wasn't ready to let go of the schoolgirl Gfriend just yet so they went back to thier innocent/pure concept with "Love Whisper" and stuck with it until "Time for the Moon Night". I think this current transition Gfriend did to a slightly older/different sound is a lot better than their attempt with Fingertip and people seem to like it.

Now that you mention bts, a lot of theories going on between buddy (gfriend) and army about gfriend and bts are in parallel universe. Cmiiw, in gfriend story the character is eunha while bts is jin. You know there are a lot of similarities between bts and gfriend especially in summer rain era (gfriend) and highlight reel era (bts, short movie, the beginning of ly series era). They said the girls in the hightlight reel werr represent gfriend. But thats just theories. Also actually bts and gfriend are friends that never showed up in front of camera. Bts has been really supportive to gfriend, and the other way arounf. Esp 2016.

As a simple analogy, Dreamcatcher is like the Gothic, rebellious, metalhead younger sister of Gfriend who is a pure, elegant, modest and sentimental girl. Their music both have orchestral fundamentals contributing to the similarities of their music.

Me Gustas Tu is what got me into them too. The electric guitar is really prominent in that song (which the metalhead in me loves). Fingertip was awesome as well, largely because of the guitar riffs.

thank you so much for reacting to gfriend 💘 my top bias group and the most talented ladies. even though gfriend tend to be looked down on for their innocent concept or for "not following the trends most girl groups are taking now", they are the most talented group to me. In all honesty all their songs highkey slap! and they have intense, visually appealing, complex, and artistic choreographies that come with them! ( the level of synchronization they have 👏🔥). Gfriend are really known for their choreographies because they tend to always showcase the best dance and always comeback with a more harder choreography than the one before and honestly its crazy how they never dissapoint. Their vocals are literally so amazing and just adds more to the gfriend charm. I honestly love gfriend so much I could go days just talking about them :(( in conclusion gfriend have a soft spot in my heart💘 and if anyone ever comes after them I WILL throw hands 😳😋👉👈. they deserve everything for being the most talented ladies :((

I think i have a good idea about the music taste you have, and I would recommend you watch a couple other title track videos, Navillera and Fingertip, and Memoria (a japanese title track but I'm in love with the song, the fashion, and the visuals/concepts) For B-sides they have my 3rd favorite of all kpop groups. (1st is BTS 2nd is Red Velvet) My recommendations for sides are Ave Maria, Gone With the Wind, Crush, Say My Name, Sweety (You're gonna die), and contrail. I think you will at the very least appreciate these for their instrumentals and vocals. The thing about Gfriends music that I love, is that they always manage to combine an orchestral sound with 80's drum beats and some EDM and create some of my favorite songs.

Dreamcatcher is the dark side of gfriend and gfriend is the bright side of dreamcatcher. Both gfriend and dreamcatcher has a lot in common like the two groups have the hardest (all songs) choreo among all kpop girl groups and they also has the almost same theory (about someone who dies). All of their members have stable vocals too. The only different about them is their concept. Both of the groups has that anime opening or type of songs. Its just that gfriend is more dreamy and dreamcatcher is more to rock vibe. Lastly, STAN GFRIEND AND DREAMCATCHER

not being delusion, but if you have followed gfriend and bts from the bottom, a lot of concepts and storyline is very similar. Yet, they are in the parallel universe, so it is very hard for them to meet. Also, the highlight reel, if you look closely to the 6 girls, it looks like they girls represents Gfriend.

tbh i love gfriend because their concept have been growing with them to something more mature and still nostlagic like the first videos and songs, also you should check fingertip which is a bit more different but still super them! and also their songs works so good for anime openings!!

gfriend is by far my favorite girl group. To me, their songs might still be feminine but never "girly". Somehow all of their songs have a nostalgic feel to them, and I think their lyrics feel more genuine/deep than just your basic pop song. They also have probably the best choreos of any girl group. Even when some of their moves may not be super complex and difficult, only gfriend can pull it off in a way that's visually stunning not only because they're in sync, but also because they focus on making a picture/visual with each of their moves. Highly recommend checking out the choreos for any of their songs, especially rough and me gustas tu. I don't consider myself a gfriend stan because I don't know much about them, but I've always loved their title tracks and choreos and if I had time to stan a new group right now gfriend would be at the top of my list

Gfriend have their own storyline and all the mv connected.Their mv start as school best friend (Glass Bead mv) --> School holiday (Me gusta tu mv) --> they're didn't want to separate before the graduation (Rough mv)--> Holiday time n they found a love (Navillera mv), the real story start from Navillera mv where Yerin n Eunha their own member fall in love w each others --> Fingertip mv (?) I'm not sure but it the start of their parallel world where one of the girl Eunha, dead (?) --> The girls missing their friend, mostly Yerin because she really love Eunha n try to reach her in (Time for the moon night mv) paper plane resemble they want to give a message to her friend who have passed away up there (?) --> (Sunrise mv) They found the way how to meet their friend, it is don't let the Sun to rise up because if Sunrise their friend spirit (?) will be gone.. We all as a buddy also still don't know what's the real story of Gfriend mv but for sure most of their song teach us more on how to appreciate n love your friend 😊 sorry for my long explaination

One thing that you should've included is the connection between "Fingertip" and "Love Whisper" with Eunha and the whole butterfly effect/time travel plot. i appreciate your reaction to gfriend, you pay attention to what you are watching and listening. so many just react without much thought and half the time they look like they can't wait for the mvs to be over. thank you! it's difficult to see people genuinely react and give gfriend a chance without expecting how they "should be". it's understandable if their music/style is not your thing. internationally, they may not be as big as other groups. but in korea, they are big, doing well and constantly improving. their support are growing slowly but steadily. for now, most fans believe the storyline started with Navillera (2016 after Rough) then all the way up till Sunrise. there were theories about gfriend having a storyline when they released Fingertip (2017 before Love Whisper). when Time For The Moon Night was released, the girls confirmed it. they said "yes, there's a storyline but you have to pay attention to our old mvs". however they won't reveal anything because they enjoy reading fan theories haha. i believe Sunrise should be the end for the current storyline. out of all the mvs, Sunrise mv is the easiest to decipher as long as you keep up with the whole thing. i recommend getting into their dance practice! you are likely to be amazed since you already like some stuffs you've seen :D

A lot of people mistake gfriend for cute concept, when their actual concept is powerful innocence. And as for the music video, one of the member is dead. Anyway, I'm glad you reacted to gfriend as they don't get as mush attention in America as they do in Korea.

If your into anime, that might be the reason why it sounds familiar. Especially Rough, Rough was created based on the anime movie "The Girl who Lept through time". And a lot of their songs have the same instrumentals as anime songs. They're big in Japan right now and were voted as one of the three kpop groups who were leading the new wave of kpop into Japan because of their sound. A lot of Japanese people also say their Japanese prounciation is really good

Also when GFRIEND first came out with the school trilogy, they were very much associated with time and butterflies because they were everywhere on their music videos. Both of those things also have a lot to do with their recent trilogy which just ended (TFTMN, SS, and S). TFTMN mainly focused on the group remembering the times when they were six, when they were happy, and before Eunha passed. SS focused on when Eunha was alive and well and all three of them were having fun with each other. S on the other hand focused on the group only being able to see Eunha during sunrise, something they wait for everyday. There are speculations that there was supposed to be another part to their recent trilogy that was supposed to come out before because they spoke about Sunrise suddenly becoming their title track when it was supposed to be something else and having to rush to get it ready on time.

Finally the third part of this long comment from me, the profile of GFRIEND if anyone wants to get into them and stan them: Fandom Name: Buddy Members: Sowon (Kim Sojung) - leader, visual, main rapper - nicknames: Sophrodite, PB (Perfect Beauty) - was supposed to debut in KARD - she's widely considered as the second lead dancer in the group but yet to be confirmed Yerin (Jung Yerin) - lead dancer, Center, FOTG - was under fantagio and cube before Source Music - has a ton of idol friends - she became a trainee in secret because her parents didn't want her to become an idol Eunha (Jung Eunbi) - lead vocalist - was under BigHit with SinB - she was a child actress - she's childhood friends with SinB Yuju (Choi Yuna) - main vocalist - lives in her own world most of the time - considered the worst dancer in GFriend but because she works hard, it's extremely hard to see with many new fans thinking she's a lead dancer - she was turned down by JYP during kpop star because he said she had no emotions (we love JYP but god damn, I was ready to throw arms) SinB (Hwang Eunbi) - main dancer, center - was a bighit trainee (rumors are you can hear SinB's voice in one of BTS's MVs) - is considered one of the best main dancers in the new generation (if not the best) - she was in the same dance school as teammate Eunha, Astro's Moonbin, and WJSN's Eunseo Umji (Kim Yewon) - lead rapper, maknae - she's the only member who wasn't a trainee in another company before joining Source Music - her father is a dentist who runs quite a few branches in South Korea - she was never fat, she was just cute girl who matured into a beautiful woman and anyone who says otherwise can fight me

If you love the guitar riffs, you should listen to Me Gustas Tu, Rough, Navillera & Fingertip. Time for the moon night is the first song produced by their in house producer, so that explains why its vibe is different from the other songs (no guitar riffs)

I just want to say that thanks Lil Uzi for say this since a weeks ago, he's a great guy and I'm so proud that he is by our side supporting Gfriend since 2015. I have recently become a fan of Lil Uzi too. Their b-sides is different from the other groups like seriously all of them is comparable to the main songs and make you think that it's better than the main song .. and yes their mvs is connected to each other there's a lot of theories out there you could watch.. They also have beautiful Japanese songs, like their lastes Japanese release is 'Flower' and their first Japanese single 'Memoria' if u could check them out no need to react if that's risky .. and I highly recommend 'Fingertip' in this one they tried a different concept which is girl crush If u wanna check out their b-sides I recommend: Flower garden, You are not alone, Love bug, Rainbow, L.U.V, La pam pam(Japanese song), White, My buddy. Rough is the end of their school trilogy and the song that made them blow up at the time. In Love whisper they are talking to nature and the end is a setup to summer rain. In TFTMN the mv and song is about one of the members dying (Eunha took her own life at the start when closing the curtains) and all the members coping with it and eventually being able to meet her in their dreams. Sunrise is a follow up on TFTMN where everybody is still very sad that they can only see Eunha in their dreams so they try to also be able to see her after the sun rises!

As far as I'm concerned you get props for having an open mind when you're listening: not everything has to be your cup of tea, just no snap judgements, which I feel like you are spot on. 8) if you want to dip your toes into kpop girl groups I really highly recommend Oh My Girl! They have a lot of variety and unique songs, and they're bright and fun without too much of the 'over-cutsey' thing that tends to scare new viewers off girl kpop. LiarLiar is probably their most popular song among international fans (very colorful mv and catchy song with great vocals): I personally like Windy Day best, and their most recent song Remember Me is a bit more EDM/club sounding than their usual. Definitely check them out if you get a chance!

you're not the only one who gets a "familiar feeling" when listening to Gfriend's songs. their songs always bring nostalgia and they have a sound that makes u wanna go back to even their previous records, like Me Gustas Tu.
