The story is about each member going on with their own paths (maybe after graduating from their school) and they feeling kinda hollow (similar to like what you said of not knowing what to do with their life etc.). The snow and paper notes or cues they found out or remembered helped to remind them of a “promise” they made to each other to meet up together at a certain place when it snows. So they met up, went cycling, and dug up their time capsule that contained a notebook that has doodles and things they wrote for one another when they were together back then

Also, I would describe this era of kpop's mv style as *soft yet crisp* . All of the lighting is like super bright, with a kinda of soft look for everything. Third gen is a little more realistic, but with darker elements, and 4 gen so far has been very colorful with 4k. *I'm open to outside opinions and comments : ) *

I feel like gfriend always makes you feel nostalgic even if it's the first time you hear the song. Also the instrumentals remind me of OST instrumentals which I love

3:43 gives me anime vibes, sounds like something you would expect in the soundtrack in an anime. This song and Me Gustas Tu give those vibes., it could just be me but that's what I associate with it.

The first instrument in rough chorus was used again in their next song, navillera, really cool. Gfriend makes a satisfying instrument, as always.

This MV is the final of their school trilogy, graduation, going their own ways, all wrote letters to each other and filled in a diary which they buried as a time diary, with the first snow they promised to meet up and revisit the diary, so Glass bead, me gustas tu, then rough, all based around school, pretty much all out door shots because that was basically free shooting they couldn't afford studio sets back then

GFRIEND is a group that have good instrumentals, their music so rich and different

Snow, especially the first snow of the winter, symbolises love in SKorea, and if you had read the lyrics of the first video you watched you'd known that the song is about not having confessed to your crush back then but hopping to meet when you're both more grown up. However the video concentrates more on Gfriend reminiscing on their friendship in High School.

Based from what I knew, Rough won a lot of awards because of its like Graduation theme. When it was release, it was when most of the koreans graduate. When you graduate, you won't know when you can see your friends again. That's why it became popular. In the MV, the girls were like preparing themselves for the outside world. In the last scene, they gathered once again to recall their memories from the notebook were they wrote their memories. It was like their time machine box. It was a big thing for Gfriend too since the song also symbolizes graduation from their school trilogy era because after that I think Fingertip was release which is their experimentation in searching new styles. Till now this song still holded the record as most won at music show with 15 trophy's for girlgroup gen-3. This song also break a record as most download song, most listener in Gaon Chart. The only one group song that achieved PAK for almost 36hours that year. First girlgroup in Gen 3 for achieved triple crown on music show. This song really got an attention in S.K. Almost got daesang (Song of the year) on Gaon Award but got robbed. Hmmmm.. in reality gfriend having a highest digital. Yeah..this song is legendary. And also Navillera. Yuju's my bias she's the main vocalist the one who hits that high note after the guiter dance break in this. This one's live performance is amazing. This songs talks about how they want to go back in time and express their love and care to someone they adoree and appreciate but couldn't do it due to circumstances being they were too young, didn't understand and such. And it's talking about their friendship. I think the snow telld them that it's never too late to show what they could've shown before when they were together, and the letters and stuff reminded of each other so I guess everything with the snow led them to themselves and also, let them know the true nature of their bond, like how precious it is for them that they never want to let go of each other. and I became a buddy after I watched this performance on music bank and yuju was just killing it vocally and dancing and her performance was amazing the others were good too. But I love gfriend, they are different from others and their relation ofcamera is fun and amazing, love your reactions to them waiting for more. GFRIEND music was always super pleasing to me when I first heard them years ago (I officially stanned during MAGO Era though). I felt like they have been robbed of MANY MANY anime OP/Ending opportunities. They have always had this bad ass whimsical sound to me but they were still diverse to me if that makes any sense. They get slept on a lot (or intentionally overlooked impo) but they are hands down one of the top gg in their industry. Vocals, visuals, dancers, writing/producing their own music. QUEENS. TALENT. Sad it took me this long to finally call myself a Buddy but happy to be here and I hope you keep reacting to them!!

Although I can see how you perceive and anticipate the element of mysticism (and it's not entirely off target according to the overall Gfriend lore), the theme of "Rough" is about the feeling of uncertainty for their friendship upon the graduation from school. The translation of the Korean title for "Rough" is "Going through time", and you can relate that to the ending choreo of the song. "Rough" is the concluding chapter of Gfriend's renown school trilogy that started with their debut song "Glass Bead", and followed by "Me Gustas Tu". The story of the song took them through the ending days of school and eventually reunited later to reminisced about their time together with the use of the time capsule (the buried notebook/dairy) in the MV. The snow effect is probably mostly overlay but there are scenes where you can see snow flakes (likely fake) on Yerin. You have a strong interest in the visual effect of the MV. Do you study or work in the field? Also interesting that you brought up Dreamcatcher. Dreamcatcher was often referenced as the dark side of Gfriend. There are similarities to their sound, but Dreamcatcher opted for more rock elements and Gfriend is well known for its orchestra pop sound, with particularly notable use of string instruments. That electric guitar piece you heard would be an example.
