this video is why i love the 3D era GTA games so much more than the new ones. they give you your mission objective and then you can decide how you want to complete the mission. for whatever reason Rockstar threw that play style out the window for 4 and 5 and made all their missions insanely restrictive. like if you don’t play the way they tell you to, you fail because they want your play style to match their dumb attempt at making a game feel “cinematic”
4 and 5 and RDR2 have some pretty linear mission design but I don't mind too much as the world is so well crafted and designed and I'm usually immersed in the story to ignore some gameplay shortcomings. That being said, I hope Rockstar make more missions open ended in the future. The older GTAs had that charm and variety
