@@sushiifoxx to be honest I think Barioth isn't that hard, he can definitely fuck you but if you don't play to aggressive at least in my opinion it's not to hard. Tigrex is my guess where he might hit the first wall in Iceborn. But we will see so far he was a lot better and a lot more patient than I expected so far.
@@gokuderahayato2304 imo tigrex is like braindead easy. but maybe thats cause tigrex has been in so many mh games and ive played them all so i could be bias
tbh Asmon we should all recognize you're a pretty good gamer if we're honest with ourselves. Most first time hunters do way worse than you, that 11 min Teostra was the icing on the cake. Well done hunter!
Yeah it's funny I see him do a lot of dumb stuff and refuse to learn things like tackle, flinch shot, or slinger burst but at the same time he hasn't been struggling much at all aside from the few times he went up against a monster he wasn't very geared for.
His first try on Nergi was insane to me. He used no superman dive no shoulder tackle on greatsword. Didnt use environmental spikes on the ceiling. He just beat its ass. Took me days to beat him with my friends.
Most first time hunters haven't played video games for 25 years. Asmon is clearly not an average gamer, especially since he plays games like the Dark Souls series. Its not like he's a LoL or a Counter Strike player.
Gs is easy mode tho, you chare and hit and run then you repeat, if it was the long sword or charged blade I'd be impressed but no he's not really good at the game as a first time player
Sword and shield or hammer. Both are great weapons. Coming from a 1300hr veteran. Oh, and long sword is pretty fun too. So is charge blade. And switch axe. Charge blade and switch axe do BIG damage when charged up.
It's a good thing he does some stuff while off stream, cause it gives him time to do things on his own term. He doesn't have to worry about 5000 people telling him to do 100 different things the whole time.
For monsters like Lunastra, Capcom designed the game so you don’t have to deal with the aspects of it you don’t particularly like. Asmon sounds like he doesn’t like stuns, so he should always equip Steadfast level 3. He likes more Health, so Health Boost 3, and then specifically for Lunastra, it looks like he’s getting knocked around by Wind Pressure attacks so Wind Resist 5 could be what he needs. This is actually a relatively common bit of basic skillset most players enjoy using.
That stopped for some reason with Alatreon, who forces you to switch weapons if your class relies on raw. Nothing you can do to fight that thing like a normal monster.
@@TheTexasDice Alatreon is specifically an optional monster made to highlight the value of elemental weapons. Any elemental weapon in your weapon class can be used to win the fight. The "point value" of the correct elemental damage is always adjusted based on the weapon you're using. For instance, elemental damage from elemental gunlances are greatly magnified when accounting for if they meet the threshold.
My constant go-to's are steadfast, earplugs, and health boost. Can't stand getting stunned and constantly interrupted due to roars, and the extra hits are nice for that added bit o' comfort. Satiated and speed eater are also pretty nice, to quickly consume items and have a chance of not using 'em.
IDK, personally I think souls difficulty is super overblown. Quite notoriously, a few years back a very good bloodborne speedrunner tried MH and got kinda farmed. The games are extremely different in how they play IMO, and while there's definitely a fair bit of knowledge transfer, a lot of credit has gotta be given to asmongold for how well he's adapted to the more positioning and timing based playstyle of MH compared to the super generous fest of soulslikes. And also to divine blessing and his palico for carrying his ass so hard XD
most people failed to get through barioth because we played base world for a really long time and end game HR items would let you breeze through the Iceborne content till you hit him, then got stat checked at this point. Asmongold just bought MR items through his playthrough so it was that easier. People who did this back then had an easier time as well. Most of us got OHKO from him over and over till buying new items. Asmongold doesnt even know how to use GS properly yet.
@@Minty_MH and the thing about going from souls to MH is you're used to 3 billion i-frames and spam rolling through things but you absolutely can't do that in MH
1st try no carts, no wallbang, no mantles, no tackle, no slinger TCS combo, no flashbang and no traps. Just regular charge attacks the whole fight. What a fcking Gigachad. I have hope he could beat Fatalis or atleast Alatreon now.
I really wish someone mentioned the coral horn. Having stun resistance, wind proof, devine blessings, stamina boost, etc all at the same time is such a lifesaver. It seems like the main issue for him is either blights or stuns and that would probably fix it for him.
Bro took on Barioth for the first time and won. This man did so much better than me. My whiny ass took 6 fights, 2 days to pass this mtfk. Watching clips, google searching for tips. This guy charged in and done it. Props to you Zack!
@@benwalters4808 this is speaking from someone who played nearly all MH games so i cant really relate but baroith got mad nerf since he moved in the new world games imho didnt faint on my first hunt with him (using hammer) when i played world
Honestly, he had one of the smoothest clears I have seen for Barrioth from a new player, especially considering he isn't using all his tools (tackles, pods, traps offensively, other mantles, etc).
I am very surprised as well considering he doesn't like listening to people and doesn't know how to make a build or do things that he needs to do now that he is in Iceborn. He will need a lot of help come endgame esp the final monsters. He is going to learn soon that he needs to make a build. Not just "oh this looks cool." Of course you got layered armor but still. He just needs to understand how to build and how to buff and what to bring, he still only has the one cat gadget..which tells me hes not listening to people and not exploring. Yeah its cool to see him playing the game but he is missing a lot of stuff. Still cool just saying. He thinks the game will be over if he just gets to the end when he is missing 90% of it. Love watching the guy, just yeah.
@@Thevikingninja117 not really, he has played a ton of dark souls, so he has already learned all the mechanics he will need to beat the hardest monsters. People play MHW without any armour upgrades to make the game harder, saying you need to look up guides etc is just a lie and a crutch for bad players
@@skylineOwnZallThis is not dark souls and he is not using most of the mechanics tho. Some of the later monsters are very difficult if you just do gs charge attacks and dont use items or claw or slinger or mantle.
@@skylineOwnZall Curious to see what happens when he gets to Alatreon, and how many attempts it takes him to realize he simply can't brute force it without elemental damage which none of his greatswords deal
Thank you Asmond. Seriously. You’re a huge influence in the gaming scene in general and I’m sure more people bought this game now and are going to buy Wilds as well. Capcom has been doing a good job at reinvesting the funds to better their games and Wilds might be better polished because of you. Thank you!
campcoms reputation is not so poor as u described it, i havent played any mh games and only barely scratched dragons dogma, but from my viewpoint capcom is one of the higher rated companies right now in terms of reputation.@@chanter3978
They’re making a comeback. Changes in upper management helped a lot. They were pretty bad for some time since 2010 until this game came out. Monster Hunter World literally saved capcom

Asmon is right about Teostra being a good boss. A lot of OG players hate on Teostra for some reason but his moveset is varied and constantly keeps you on your toes to adapt to whichever mode he's in.
Not sure who these players you you have been talking to are. Teostra is widely regarded as one of the best designed fights across multiple generations. Lunastra is the one people hate on.
Depends. Are you seeing the OGs bitter in general (in which case, they never got the hang of OG Teo. Legend fight) or are you seeing them hate on World Teo? Latter means they miss the old difficulty.
I ended up loving teo/ kushala/ anything with that skeleton because I learned lance. Lance makes those fights so fun. Rise increased the fun even more by giving 2 more counter moves to use. Ive gotten ar250+ risen kushala in under 7 minutes on a fairly comfy lance just because of those motion values on perfect guard.
This needs more upvotes. Earplugs would be a game changer for him. You could count probably 10 full charged combos missed every video because of a roar. I love using earplugs with Insect Glaive because its a real bummer when you are working on your third build up before the big hit and you get roared out of the sky. In Rise you don't need to use them because you get earplugs when you have all extracts.
Yeah he did well, but the AI was also very kind to him. It missed him so often and spend 90% of the fight dealing with the Palico. But then he got screwed with the post hunt decos in return.
Jesus christ is the MH community really this weird ? This is like the 50th "wall" that he's supposed to get stuck on and he only clears all of them first try with no faints because of lucky AI all the time. It's bordering on insecurity.
@@ImTheTrueHealergame revolves around building sets with whatever armor skills you want, and you’re insecure cause you googled full damage build while he cruises by with defensive ones instead. Nice job man

Oh my goodness!! Asmon going for Iceborne, too!! Let's goooo 🥳!! He's doing a lot better than i expected, especially with Teostra fight 😮!! Way to go, Asmon!!! 🙌👍😃
I just wanted to say that I have seen your content before but I was more investigated when you began MH…I am excited to see that you truly understand the essence of the game. Can’t wait till you reach the end game!
I’ve never seen anyone get hit so many times and get saved by their palico, divine blessing, and the monster’s AI so aggressively. There were so many times where he just should’ve died, but game was just like “nah.”
Asmon you're doing really good. My only major tip is look for the animation when you hit the monster and they reel back to the side and look at you while drooling. That is the opening you're meant to clutchclaw onto the monster. When you do that you can tenderize the part you're on like you normally do OR if you have slinger ammo equipped you can latch onto head, press a different button (not sure what it is on keyboard) to do a different hit to force the monster to turn roughly 90 degrees per hit, then there's another button to unload all ammo into the monster's face and send it running into the wall. It'll hit the wall, deal like 500 dmg or more and then fall over and be stunned for a bit leaving a big opening for you. Also this will most likely send the monster into enraged mode so you'll have to wait til he calms down to do it again.
tbf i had mhw when it released on ps4, quit on anjenath. Then iceborne release and its on pc, went back to the game and im 2k hours in mhw iceborne.....what a crazy good game. And asmongold playing it, watching every gameplay makes me wanna go make a new character and start all over again.
Holy hell, he read barioth wrong so many times, seemed like he was gonna cart 3 times but carted 0 times, what a madlad, his dark souls experience is really shining here
I love when he said Temporal Mantle is insane and then later said I'm not gonna use it yet while me just auto equip it immediately after getting it and do test run. 😅
Watching Asmon play makes me realize how easy the game gets with vigor wasps and the health boosters, crazy amount of healling means you can faceroll pretty much the whole story with little to no prep, glad they done this so more people can get in to the series and slowly easy themselves in.
Tbh all they did was take the healing cats from the previous games and spread alot of their hp healing into the fights and arenas. Its definitely nice for beginners especially in combination with a medic cat
Bloody hell, I was absolutely convinced he would get frustrated and knock this game on the head. But the game has challenged him and good old Asmon has risen to the challenge. Nice!
I've been following this guy since the diablo 4 and all of the mmo things but man, he is really enjoying this game. i had spent +2000 hours in this game and for a first timer he is, he is doing amazing. mh is an amazing franchise love to see more people enjoy it (sorry broken english)
@@arlco7873 well I mean the gear really isn't that good considering what you can get in master rank later on He basically just has high rank+ armor so sure you could say it's easier because of that but he still is not too bad at the game He just needs to learn a few more things and he'll do even better
Mad respect for his gaming skills with the great sword, not an easy class to play, but im happy he found out why people like monster hunter games so much.
That was a pretty damn good job on Barioth. That was one of my most difficult fights. Namely because he just refused to go down. I trap bombed multiple times, broke and cut off every part possible. He limped off, went to sleep, I trapped and hit him with 2 tranqs, no effect. Went to hit with a 3rd and he broke out. Proceeded to broke out of every trap almost immediately after. Finally slayed him with less than a minute to go
I looked it up cuz even I couldn't believe how long it was taking him. Apparently Coral Pukei-Pukei's tail can only be severed once its total health is below 35%. I learned something new lol
Viper is a treat, Tobi had a nice moveset, but its so weak... you dont have to respect its power, you can just beat it up and trade. Viper was really refreshing and actually made me worry. That changes when you get OK mr gear and he becomes trash again, but its nice to see that moveset expanded and made into somthing serious, while Viper is still a threat. Barioth too! They made the ice cat much faster in this game, pretty hard to hit until it gets weak.
I really enjoyed watching him fight monsters before he got divine blessing 3 and hb3. Now he just face tanks all the hits, but if he’s having fun that way then power to him I guess.
I remember building exactly like him because I saw the stats value of those is insane compared to small increase in attack or crit lol. But true it makes for a boring watch. I'm gonna watch his earlier fights.
Yep absolutely. Trivialized his experience, infinitely more than any of the tools he refused to use, which are actually fun to use. And got him stunned a looot more. And it means that if he ever wants to try any other kind of build with armor, he'll be severely disadvantaged because he won't be able to adapt to the damage he takes as he's so accustomed to the most OP tanking build.
This game is really not that hard if you use your brain, use buff pots and mantles. The only hard part is final challenge. If you want to see hard game then play god of war on highest difficulty :) game where you have to master parry and evasion and where 1 mistake mean repeat. Here you can make more mistakes and game not gonna punish you for only 1
@@regencyrow1867Divine Blessing, at higher levels, just simply procs a lot. Level 5 says it will, but Lever 3+ is where you'll start reaping in the rewards for having those higher levels. @@SumitShrivastava17 positioning and good play have nothing to do with him face tanking attacks when DB doesn't proc and brushing them off. The Frost explosion is barely doing 25% and shoulder checks from barioth are hardly moving his health with no blessing. He has an offensive build but he's not being punished at all. I'm genuinely curious why he is so tanky when DB doesn't proc.
Honestly impressed by how good he's doing for a first time player. If this guy learn how to use tackle, flash pods, and wall projection, i swear this will get insane
He's doing better than most first time players, definitely better than I did when I first started. It's awkward seeing people complain and him apologizing as if he were not good.
I recommend getting the full Beotodus set, hes easy + the armor has some great skills like: Earplugs which removes stun from roars, mirewalker that lets you walk and run normally in water and snow, and health boost (590 defense)
"i hate stun locks" stun locking is a three hit punishment, you get hit three time in a short time, is suppose to punish reckless play. getting hit too much means you are getting too deep into fight and trading hits for hits, which isnt in the spirit of the game.
Dude he's just face-tanking everything with Divine Blessing and HP boost. This is lowkey gross to watch and reducing fights to standing around chugging potions.
@@nyne2022 If it works I don't see what the problem with it is. At the end of the day he is playing mostly for himself to have fun, and you don't need to play in the most optimal way to have fun
@@Dice-Z True. I didn't word it correctly. What i meant is that there is nothing wrong playing how you want whether it be using gear and weapons that trivialise the fight or not.
Tbf, for someone that played MHW as their first MH game, Zack did a pretty good job so far. Just needed to do some tweaks like utilizing dung bombs when two monsters are in the same area. Also heard that he wants to use the Bow, where it'll be quite a big adjustment since the character will be quite squishy.
Seeing him playing Monster Hunter seriously and happily reminded me of when I first played Monster Hunter a long time ago (my first game was MH2G). Back then there was no online, so I played with friends at friends' houses, parks or department stores. Oh the nostalgia... Well, enough talking about myself, enjoy Monster Hunter, AsmonPAPA, and new players! This is a translation, so it might be weird!

Divine blessing is stopping him from learning how to use his weapon. He doesn’t get punished for making mistakes so he does the same thing over and over.
I feel like he is missing out a lot from this game. He never uses the GS tackle, he never uses the environment to damage the monster, he never uses pods, never cooks BBQ. At the very least, I hope he learns how to wall slam for Iceborne.
He said he wants to win the fights using raw skill, not additional aid. He is aware of the tools and things he can do, but he wants to do it on his own first. For the tackle he is getting more comfortable little by little. He is aware of the things available to him though
Despite his lack of mastery of the GS, he's definitely a master hunter. He's way better than me when I first started. His hunt for both Teostra & Lunastra was intense. Lastly, his hunt for Barioth was exceptional. It's his lack of failing hunts against every new and powerful monster is what really awes me.
I hope you don't mean extreme behemoth, It's the worst boss in the game tbh. Artificial difficulty at it's fullest. It's not even fun. Arch tempered monsters are cool though, except for lunastra.
Guys, this is the episode that I TRUELY feel we might have another chance to hear the Proof of a Hero TOGETHER once again. At this point I honestly think he s gonna do it.
Stunresist at max rank makes you immune to stun, so I suggest getting that asap so you don't have to suffer stun anymore (you'll ofcourse get knocked down and flinched from other effects). I hate stuns in MH so I always get stun resist as soon as possible. I don't mean to backseat so play it however you want to, but you really seem to dislike stuns and I think it will make the game more enjoyable for you =) Also, real solid adaptations to the Lunastra fight, you're doing well Asmon!
My respect for Asmon jumped tremendously when he chose not to use the Temporal Mantle. As someone who thinks that mantle is such a crutch, even after nerf, it’s refreshing to see Asmon would rather improve himself than use an item that removes difficulty from 90% of bosses.
To be fair, if someone truly doesn’t understand a monster, the temporal mantle won’t make them beat it as it’s gone extremely quickly if you lean on it too much. As I tell people, put it on but still try to dodge the attacks anyway and use it as a safety net for a mistimed dodge. You recover much faster and can do more damage if it doesn’t dodge for you.
YES!! People don't realise how mandatory this decision is when it comes to getting better at the game, ESPECIALLY when using the clutch claw! I've seen too many meta build-having full-Fatalis b+ hunters who STILL RELY on it to get wallbangs against regular monsters. It always gets a chuckle out of me when they try that on Arch-Tempered Velkhana and get absolutely obliterated.
He did better than most of the player, first try barioth too, cant wait to see how did he go against MR Lunastra, Ruiner, Blackveil, and Safi. Hope he didnt miss Kulve taroth
The most helpful thing anyone could tell him about at this point is not panicking to get out the way like Dark Souls after he has eaten a big hit, especially if a follow up attack is coming, those i frames when you don't touch any buttons after being knocked down will save him big time.
Because of Asmon I actually started the game as well with a greatsword, am now at the beginning of High Rank and first entering Elders Recess. What I just found out about keyboard controls and Greatsword is that you can Turn while Charging with A and D really handy when the monster runs past you and you would otherwise miss, I also just switched my weapon to switchaxe which also feels badass and relatively easy to use/understand
Exceptional progress. He grinded out a Level 3 divine blessing charm in a single night. Man is hooked. Top it with him being a Souls Vet, knowing positioning and its value. The amount of times he has a chance to get a True Charge Slash, is crazy good for someone not using tackles. Midgame he'll most likely get earplugs and stun res. Post that, don't think much can stop him apart from the black dragons and maybe Rajang.
Endgame is subjective. Its either: Fashion Min-maxing gear (gems/augmenting weapons) Finish the main story/DLC story of the game Hunt and slay all the monsters that have been released in monster hunter (including the black dragons) Refining your skill in hunting and challenging yourself to achieve success in difficult hunts like: -Hunt X monster with sub optimal gear -Complete the hunt under a certain time -A combination of the two previous points, and possibly include other stipulations Regardless of the goal, at the end of the day just have fun. I think we can all agree to that.
