That first knight kill was very thematic. The infantry squads use their heavy weapons to strip off its void shields before the vanquisher tank emerges from the cover of the ruins and blows a hole right through the cockpit. Very spicy.

I didnt think of that, but you are right! Imagine, being the guardsmen in that situation. The order comes over the radio to break cover and take the knight head on. Command assures you that support is incoming, but maybe you have heard it all before. But orders are orders. You and your platoon run out and with a prayer on your lips you fire at the building sized death machine infront on you. Just as its about to walk over your squad mates a hyper velocity flys over your head, decapitating the behemoth! "The Emperor Protects"

Love these wrap-ups. Your livestreams are really fun but I really prefer this dedicated video style. Much clearer and easier to follow. Skipping through 5+ hours for the useful bits is pretty time-consuming.

That 'Charge of the Light ~~Brigade~~ Bikes' moment in game two where you poured everything into those Custodes bikers in a desperate effort to bring them down before they broke through was inspired -- would make a fantastically setpiece, cinematic moment if it were in a game or movie.

I wonder why 40k hasn't gone to simultaneous turns yet. It basically solves every problem with advantages or disadvantages based on turn sequence and also solves the "you do nothing for half the game" problem GW say they want to fix. But they just don't do it.

GW are poor game designers. Yes 40K is huge and popular but rules wise it is terrible, and 10 editions and numerous FAQs, errata and updates are testament to that, not simply cuz they are constantly releasing new units.

How would simultaneous turns work? Like each phase happens at the same time? Movement seems like it would be difficult to do simultaneously, since you are trying to move into range for shooting, get sight lines, and prepare charges. Shooting simultaneously could work with some small tweaks, but I think that significant parts of the rules would need to be completely rewritten for that to work.

Manchester GT terrain is UKTC standard. Any of the UK supermajors currently have this setup. I really like it too. LGT this year is trying to be the biggest tournament in the world (by toppling LVO) and given the quality of terrain I hope they do it. That said: If you go, stay for prizes. I was at Southampton and half the champagne was unclaimed. It's worth noting the terrain packs are available on line before the event and at any time. We've taken to using them at our club now. So that might be useful for other people looking to try their terrain rules. I think your summary on the split of players is on point. There is a good spread of players and you'll get at least a couple of really close games at your skill level even if you're bad like me. On your meta musings: There are some specific armies who want to go first including your knight opponent but it's rare. And I think while AOO was a great mission pack, the balance element and points was a flop and really let a lot of armies down. Lots of armies who weren't overpowered ate substantial nerfs while AM and WE have both been at the very top of the acceptable power curve (arguably with 1 or 2 broken rules or slightly pushed units) pushing lots of factions down.

I know your pain re custodes. They are broken AF. Those bikes are OP. The guy who plays them in my group seems to roll his 4++ AT LEAST 67% of the time, its crazy. Okay his dice failed but it also shows Guard are OP too.

Next list should be a psychic scions list. 5 command squads with astropaths attached. It would be a terrible list and not competitive in the slightest, but you’ve done infantry mob, try hard, combat guard, let’s get that psychic phase going with some astropaths or primaris psykers

I'm not really a tournament player so maybe I am missing something obvious, but, I wanted to know what did you do to get around the normal limit of 3 of the same unit for your five Leman Russ tanks? In addition, what allowed you to take 8 Heavy Support choices? I am figuring it may have something to do with all the Command Points you used but I wanted to know what you did if you don't mind and the list itself isn't obvious.

1. Leman russes can be taken in sets of 1-3 per datasheet as well as three individual tank commanders in the hq slot. 2. Arks of omen detachments provide 6 max in a focused heavy support detachment.

Super interesting, but I am left dumbfounded by a few things. Maybe a fellow guardsman can help me out? 1) Where in the rules does it say that you can't take more than one commandant (or that you need to spend CP on Heroic Support to do so)? I assume (but might be wrong) that the commandant keyword is unique to the guard but I don't see the rule anywhere in the codex. 2. Why is it so easy to score inflexible command? If your opponents can take out Russes reliably, why don't they take out your tank commanders first, forcing the remaining Russes to stay around the infantry commanders?

1) new stratagem in the Arks of Omen expansion 2) Killing tank commanders or any Russ is actually quite hard for a lot of armies, they are tough units. Even if they do kill the tank commander, IC says tanks need to stay within 12" of an officer, which is a pretty big distance :)

The heavy weapon team bases are the size they were originally sold with, which is perfectly fine, i think. Creed and the other senior officers all have the commandant keyword, so at this point, the model is obviously just about representing their seniority and your regimental fluff tbh. And these days you can run krieg, cadians and catachan as a coherent force, so I don't think anyone is going to single out and question a differently painted tank and not look like an absolute tit.

I didnt have any issues, either from the TO or the other players. Simply put, day a guard officer is a guard officer. In my exp the rule is as long as the other player can look at the model and see clearly what it is then its ok :) As for the mortar teams, honestly I didnt even think about it! I have always just run my heavy teams on the bases they came with.

@@MordianGlory can’t find any anymore seems to have resolved itself, as an example at one point before you were talking about a knight not standing back up and another voiceover talking about superheavies and volcano canons was playing, it was bizarre.
