I dont play TT but i frequently watch it and i gotta say the amount of dice some games require really is just wild. Especially when they use the dice to keep record if unit health and whatnot you gotta have at least 25 dice per person minimum lol

More than anything else, Mordian, I respect how different this list is compared to common wisdom on the guard codex. Death Korps, scions, grenade launchers, foregoing born soldiers in order to get extra movement and range - you really thought independently and let your creativity show to make this list your own and to make it shine.

With regards to your Kasrkin loadouts: If you took Born Soldiers, why not just go for maximum weight of fire with two grenade launchers and two volley guns? I have a force that does that along with a Missile Launcher/Grenade Launcher combo in each infantry squad... Its so many shots, they just grind the enemy to dust. In the war of rain against mountain, the rain always wins... given enough raindrops.

I tried this list today against a friend playing Necrons and I completely crushed him, I never won this decisive before wow, I didnt have enough modells for the kasakrin so I played 2 demolisher melter lemans and no sentinel but damn it worked like a charm. Great list thank you for sharing. I never used krieg but wow I will do so now, they can actualy hold a line!

So, over the weekend I drove up to visit a friend and get 2 games of Warhammer in with him. We tried something a bit different, Standard arks rules, but we would use Alternating activations, phase by phase. He moved a unit, I moved a unit. He Shot, then I shot. Just like deployment. In the command phase, we both gained 2 cp, since their was now only 1 per turn. Theirs a very real downside for all melee armies moving into shooting armies, so We allowed units to attempt to charge in the movement phase (treated as though it was the charge phase for any rules purposes) in lieu of shooting. This genuinely worked out great, we both vastly preffered it. No long half hour+ waits between turns, No hiding your entire army behind L shaped ruins, getting priority turn 1 wasn't a massive boost. You could move away if your being chased, theirs a wonderful amount of choice in what to activate next and how you prioritize your targets. We found move blocking so much more important and we were both taking back and forth hits no matter what that made it just so much more fun and balanced. Their really isnt the feels bad 'his entire army just shot and now half my armies dead' moment. We both lost huge amounts turn 1, but, we BOTH lost huge amounts. It feels so much better balanced and engaging. I highly encourage everybody to give it a try and see if they like it. Took about the same time as a normal game of 40k.

@@Viper880 Im familiar, the friend I played against is actually into it. He runs an Ogre heavy Nord faction I believe, been talking up the city states to me a bit. Also, it pops up a lot on 40k in 40 minutes alot. But yeah, Considered going one unit at a time like FOW or Conquest, but 40k does not lent itself well to that. It really messes with Characters and Aura's and especially character Screening. And at 2k point, you can have anywhere from like 4 activations on knight list to around 20 on certain horde or MSU builds. The point was to avoid players huddling behind ruins waiting for the other players shooting phase to be over before popping out and firing all their guns at a now exposed opponent. Breaking it up by phases then Alternating really just is kinda the way to go. If you want your guns to do work, you kind of have to come out from behind cover and open yourself up a little. The Trick becomes Activating and target prioritization. You can both shoot everything, just not all at once. You kill his big thing, then his second biggest threat gets to fire back at yours. Just leads to a much better blow by blow, spend my time positioning and thinking tactically, it has huge implications for secondaries and actions. Move blocking is way more critical. Just overall, feels so much better.

@@MordianGlory idk what program you use, but you can sidechain a compressor on your ambient sound, that gets triggered by your voice, so the atmo gets automaticaly reduced (so called ducking effect). or just search your editing programm + "vocal side chain"

In regards to the GK dude I think regardless of how much your army does in each phase you gotta keep to your allotted time, if you cant get through 5 turns with your army because its too active then you shouldn't bring that list.

It is time for a simple chess clock. So as long as one player acts his time runs. So if another runs out of his time (50% of game time) then he automatically loses.

Chess clocks are amazing for keeping things "properly active" I'm not always the best at playing quickly but I've played semi-horde nids in events and played every phase and still gotten through 5 turns in older editions in 1-1.5 hrs every time. Tournament play speed is very different than normal play speed. The GK player not going fast enough for Tourney, but going 'fast enough for normal' does mean they need to go faster regardless of how nice and understanding Mordian was

Is there a GK list that isn't super active? It seems like the army is just inherently wanting to be active in every phase. Honest question, I'm not a tournament player. I just know on paper it seems like GK, and psyker armies in general to some extent, are screwed when it comes to time.

Well done, great video and result, doing the Guard proud. Good to see your really well thought out list and tactics against these types of opponents. I am happy that players and TO's allow infantry to 'count as Krieg' models. I can only make 1 WYSIWYG Krieg squad and this list needs to be all Kreig. Damned Arks of Omen and new codex really does limit the infantry builds for the only season of 9th we can use codex. (The piss jugs are still armed and ready! as we should be expecting some flailing nerf bat from GW soon)

Im so happy GW went the route they did with DKoK. Been collecting FW DKoK for the last few years, and the ability benefit for the cost was very lack luster, but I still loved the design, story, etc. NOW with GW officially putting the DKOK in the AM Codex, with the aim of making them the most durable AM Infantry option, fits exactly with what I wanted in an AM infantry option. As an AM main, I am loving 9th Edition, AM is still NOT the strongest, but it is the most fun Ive had in 40K in a loooooong time.

I just took a slight variant of the pure guard to a 24 player local tournament yesterday and did really well. Got 4th. Only changes were: took 3 squads of combat engineers instead of kasrkin, and took Lord Solar instead of 2 krieg Marshall's. Worked pretty well. Round 1- guard vs imperial knight, 100 to 77 Round 2 - guard vs world eaters, 97 to 50 Round 3 - guard vs imperial knights, 99 to 55 Thank you for sharing your list and tactics. They are amazing!

I did take drill commander. It helped a ton and the Scions did amazing work. And psychic Maelstrom is insane. Got 5 wounds on a big knight real quick. Think I totaled 13 mortals with the psyker

Very fun, but looking at those infantry clusters makes me really miss blast templates. A good indirect fire(or whatever it was called) large blast could get 20-30 hits, maybe more on those clusters of multiple squads. There's just a few things like that I really miss from older editions.

I've been thinking that Heirloom Weapons seems fun. Meltaguns, heavy flamers, ripper guns (unfortunately i like regular Ogryns). I was thinking it should be paired with Industrial Efficiency or Veteran Guerillas but Swift seems like it works too. Could have 14 inch move and 16 inch range for a squadron of scout sentinels with heavy flamers

I remember the old 4th edition guard codex where you can have a command squad(5 men) and up to 5 infantry squads(10 each) for 55 troopers for 1 troop choice. How the mighty have fallen, my guard list used to have around 300 infantry with 3 or 4 tanks. I am glad I stopped when the guard felt like an actual army.

Genuine Mistake - they used to be able to take one and I have them on my models so I assummed they could still take them. I even put it in my army list! Turns out they cant which sucks :(

Loving the content! Have to say though as a harlequins player mostly I just don't see anyway the clowns would ever beat the new guard book. You out shoot us, out durability us and with that banner basically ignore all the rules that make the quins unique 😂

Shhh, no need to call it out. It's not the Raven's fault that they just happened upon an unused cache of iron hands supplies. No reason not to put that wondrous loot, er equipment to good use. I mean to not use it would be a waste of resources that were probably forgotten about anyways. Just look at how dusty it all was. Who cares if the Ravens got caught Iron handed as long as the enemies of mankind still bleed?

For a long time back in 2nd edition I fielded a no vehicle/no terminator space marine army. With the rapid fire rules that only applied to marines at the time my gun line was able to pump close to 100 shots away with a 2000 point army.......those were mostly boltguns, not lasguns.

Not really. Sweaty tabletop nerds of a certain type are a very close community. Also most people being grown adults. I think it's less to do with what happens in situations such as these and more like out of respect Mordian goes out of his way to clarify no salt been had. Because sometimes you can hear these stories and assume "that probably was an awful match, fuck the other player!" and it would be sad. So less about the nature of these matches in general, much more about human nature in general and what assumptions people make from hearing his story.
